Charlotte Bale McGraw Prechtl
Charlotte Bale McGraw Prechtl, 73, of Norman, Oklahoma,
died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Funeral
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 18, 2003 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman with Reverend Pam
Normile officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook
Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Prechtl was born January 4, 1930 in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma, to Hubert and Neva Lou Neel Bale. She grew up in
Oklahoma City and graduated with honors from Northeast High
School. She then graduated from Southern Methodist University with
a degree in home economics and received her masters degree in
library science from the University of Oklahoma. Mrs. Prechtl lived
in Norman from 1960 to 1972 and then returned in 1982, residing in
Norman until her death. She was a librarian at University High
School in Norman for a number of years. She was associate professor
of Bibliography at the University of Oklahoma. Mrs. Prechtl taught
library science for one year at the University of South Africa. She
was also active in the Alpha Phi Sorority She was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Prechtl was preceded in death by her parents and
husband, Joseph Anthony Prechtl. Her ashes will join Joe’s in the
Pacific Ocean. Survivors include her son, Rick McGraw of Dallas,
TX; daughter, Marcie Fallik and husband, Carl of Overland Park,
Kansas; and two grandchildren, Cassidy and Seth Fallik; sister,
Barbara de Jong of Howick, South Africa; seven nieces and five
nephews.

William Elmer Reid
William Elmer Reid, 85, of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Tuesday,
October 14, 2003, in Norman, Oklahoma.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00
A.M., Saturday, October 18, 2003 at
Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 2301 E.
Indian Hills Road in Norman, Oklahoma with Chaplain Harry Smith
officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral
Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Reid was born April 8, 1918 in Reids, Louisiana, to
William Edward and Myrtle Dove Reid. He graduated from high
school in Leesville, Louisiana in 1936 and then graduated from
Louisiana State University with a pre-med major in epidemiology.
He was attending graduate school at the University of Texas when
Pearl Harbor was bombed. In 1942, William enlisted with the U.S.
Army Air Corp. During the war he flew C47 Gooneybird transport
planes in the European theater. After the war, he flew members of
the Post-War Economic Planning Committee to all the capital cities
of Europe and North Africa. He stayed in the Air Force Reserves
until he was honorably discharged on March 21, 1966 with the rank
of Captain. William married Felicia Perry on May 6, 1948 in San
Antonio. He graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in 1949 and
received a Philosopher of Chiropractic degree in 1950. The family
moved to Norman on March 15, 1968 from Louisiana. William
worked at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in the
computing field for twenty years.
Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his parents and one
brother, W.L. Reid. Survivors include his wife, Felicia of the home;
son, W. Perry and wife, Missy of Edmond, OK; two daughters, Judy
Reid Toland and husband, Dan of Sterling, VA and Licia Reid
Iverson and husband, Wayne of Norman, OK; one sister, Cala Sue
Bobo and husband, James of Florence, AL; and six grandchildren,
Coby Toland, Ryan Toland, Kyle Reid, Connor Reid, Sarah Reid and
Brett Reid.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Hospice of
Norman at 623 N. Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071 or the charity of
your choice.

I.E. (Tom) Siegenthaler
I.E. (Tom) Siegenthaler was born
May 3, 1927 in Boynton, Oklahoma, the
third of four children of Irvin E.
Siegenthaler and Florence L White-
Siegenthaler. He departed this earth to be
with his Savoir October 8, 2003.
Visitation will be held on Saturday,
October 11th, 10:00am at Mcfarlin
Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman. Funeral Services
will be held on Saturday, October 11th at 11:00am at McFarlin
Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment at Rose Lawn
Cemetery, Mulhall, Oklahoma at 3:30pm. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Tom was awarded his high school diploma from Wainwright High
School with military credits earned in the navy. He served in the
U.S. Navy amphibious group from 1944-46. Tom received his
bachelor's degree in agriculture education from Oklahoma A&M in
January 1949. He married Grace M. Taylor on May 27, 1949. Tom
went on to teach vocational agriculture at the Labette County
Community High School in Altamont, Kansas from 1950-1955. He
was awarded a M.S. degree in agriculture education and agronomy
in August 1954 from Oklahoma State University.
In December 1955 he joined the Oklahoma State University-
Ethiopia contract program. Tom taught plant science and
conducted coffee research experiments at the Jimma Agriculture
Technical School in Jimma, Ethiopia until 1963. He completed an
EdD degree in 1965, then went on to serve as Dean of Vocational
Adult Education at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New
Mexico. Tom then went on to be a private consultant for
Manpower Development to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture in
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Tom and Grace then returned to Norman
where they owned and operated Tom's Meat Market until they
retired in 1992.
Tom maintained an interest in education and served on the
articulation committee to help plan Oklahoma's school-to-work
program and also served on the oversight committee for technical
higher education. He was actively involved with the "Heritage at
Risk" program supporting the building of The Oklahoma Museum
of Natural History.
Since retiring in 1992, Tom has served as a volunteer at the
Norman Regional Hospital where he also was past President of the
auxiliary. He was also on the building committee that planned,
developed and built the Hospitality House at the hospital. Tom was
a member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church serving
as a member to the advisory group for the older adult ministry. He
served the Norman Chamber of Commerce as an ambassador, on
the board of full circle day care, Friends of Museum and Rotary
Club.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Mae Taylor Siegenthaler; three
sons, George of Morrison, Colorado, Tom of Arlington, Texas and
David of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, James S. Siegenthaler;
two sisters, Nina Hager and Lois Allen, all from Muskogee,
Oklahoma; and four grandchildren, Tad Siegenthaler, Kim Brush,
Kaylee and Rylan Siegenthaler.
Tom not only touched people's lives, he became part of their lives
with his love, humor, sense of self-respect, concern, and of his
most too short time on this earth. He will be missed, but most
importantly he will be remembered through other people's actions.

or McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Foundation, 419 S.
University Blvd, Norman, Oklahoma 73069.

Charles William Smith
Charles William Smith, 75, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Friday, October 3, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Mr. Smith was born
July 20, 1928 in Blanchard, Oklahoma, to Charles L. And Ethel Mae
Gunter Smith. He moved to Norman from Bridge Creek in 1940. He
graduated from Norman High School. Mr. Smith served with the
U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He was employed at Tinker Air
Force Base as a test equipment maintenance supervisor for thirty-seven
years, he retired in 1989. He married Joan E. Crawford on
June 12, 1949 at the First Nazarene Church in Norman. Mr. Smith
was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and served as a first grade
Sunday School teacher. He was an avid O.U. football and basketball
fan. He loved working in his yard and delighted in helping others.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, daughter,
Diane Elizabeth, brother, Stanley Smith and sister, Dayle Hunt.
Survivors include his wife, Joan of the home; four sons, Charles R.
Smith and wife, Julie of Edmond, OK, Michael J. Smith of Norman,
OK, Kevin S. Smith of Norman, OK and Steven J. Smith of Moore,
OK; daughter, Deborah J. Cummins and husband, Les of Norman,
OK; sister, Margaret Gill of Norman, OK; three granddaughters,
Tiffani A. Smith, Elizabeth D. Cummins and Lindsey M. Smith; and
three grandsons, Jonathan N. Cummins, Cameron J. Smith and Jason
T. Smith.
