John Robert Riggin

The Rev. John Robert Riggin, Cromwell, died Saturday in an Okemah hospital. He was 75.

The Rev. Riggin was born on Dec. 12, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark., the son of J.H.B. and Edna Lucinda (Lemaster) Riggin.

He married Opal Clarice Daniels on Aug. 18, 1950, in Enid.

The Rev. Riggin attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. He served with the U.S. Army as an air corps staff sergeant during World War II.

The reverend pastored at Crescent, Piedmont, Geary, Copan, Milfay, Oilton, Blackburn, Sasakwa and Cromwell before retiring in 1986.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Seminole and the Primetimers and Seniors.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Riggin, of the home; three sons, David Riggin, Bartlesville; Mark Riggin, Tulsa; Bruce Riggin, Okemah; two daughters, Lauren Ruth Riggin, Okemah; Shawn Riggin, Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Charles Riggin, Austin, Texas; a sister, Thelma Spalding, Little Rock, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.

Viewing will be held until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Seminole with the Rev. Kelvin Moseley officiating.

Burial will be in Sand Creek Cemetery in Cromwell under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

James Edward Chase

James Edward "Jim" Chase died Sunday at his Oklahoma City home. He was 61.

He was born Jan. 7, 1938, in Seminole to Louis Elmer Chase and Reetha Mae (Stephens) Chase.

He married Christa Friedlin Dorst May 15, 1962, in Heilbronn, Germany.

Chase was a longtime Seminole resident. After his retirement from the military and Tinker Air Force Base, he worked as an armed security man for Pinkerton Security, where he also was a supervisor.

Chase served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He was a musician and performed for many fund-raisers as well.

Survivors include his mother, Reetha Chase, Seminole; wife, Christa Chase of the home; daughters, Manuela Chase, Christina Louise Chase and Angelique Corson, all of Oklahoma City; brother, Louis Chase, Seminole; sister, Pat Plumlee, Union, Mo.; grandson, Jefferey Shaun Chase, Oklahoma City; and twin great-grandchildren, Bailey Shaun and Kalob Shaun Chase.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Chase; son, Erich Von Chase on Oct. 20, 1970; brother, Charles Russell Chase in 1983; and sister, Barbara McGruder in 1986.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Cecil Spoonemore officiating under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Juanita P. West

Harrah resident Juanita P. West died Sunday at Midwest Regional Hospital. She was 65.

Mrs. West was born in Arcadia and moved from California to Harrah in 1966. She retired from the Oklahoma Tax Commission in 1997 and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Ward, Imboden, Ark., Jeanie Smith, Harrah, and Janis Parker, Meeker; sons, Glenn West and James "Sider" West, both of Harrah; brother, Charles Weber, Porem; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd West; her parents, one brother and one sister.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Asa Smith Funeral Chapel in Harrah. Burial will be at Memory Lane Cemetery.

lla Vivian Villines

Ila Vivian Villines of Seminole died Monday at a Seminole nursing home. She wa 87.

She was born in Maud on Feb. 12, 1912, to George Houston Roberts and Vada Darthula (Weatherford) Roberts. She married Vernon Douglas Villines on June 30, 1930, in Konawa. He preceded her in death of Feb. 18, 1985.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Wolf Freewill Baptist Church. She was a lifelong area resident.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Doug Villines and one brother, Roy Arvle Roberts.

Surviving are two sons, Vernon Dale Villines of Wolf, Okla., and Wade Lynn Villines of Hominy; one daughter, Mona Rae Harrington of Wolf; two grandchildren, Clifton Ray Harrington and Diana Lynn Harrington Landrith; great grandchildren, Cory, Ashley and April Landrith and Aaron Harrington.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Factor officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Peggy Lois Westrope

Okemah resident Peggy Lois Westrope died Sunday at Creek Nation Hospital. She was 66.

Mrs. Westrope was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Sasakwa to Alfred and Ruby Barnhart Nalley. She married Joe Alfred Westrope on Sept. 25, 1953, in Seminole County.

She was a homemaker and moved to the Okemah area in 1953. She was a resident of Colonial Park Nursing Home.

Survivors include her son, Anthony Westrope, Okemah; brothers, Jerry Lee Nalley, Washington, and Danny Nalley McMinnville, Ore., sisters, Patsy Smith, Long Beach, Calif., Sue Sharp, Yukon, and Mary Lou Weatherly, East Lake, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on Feb. 10, 1994.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Paden Cemetery, with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Lena E. Wooden McCall

Lena E. Wooden McCall died Saturday in Springdale, Ark. She was 71.

Mrs. McCall was born April 25, 1928, in Wasola, Mo., to Luther and Ethal (Shindler) Epps. She married Lewis Wooden. Following his death, she married Samuel McCall.

She was a resident of Holiday Island, Ark., and was a homemaker and also worked as a hairstylist.

Survivors include her husband, Samuel McCall, Holiday Island, Ark.; daughter, Carolyn Hogan, Holiday Island, Ark.; son, Ron Wooden, Holiday Island, Ark.; sisters, Irene Davis and Nadine Dale, both of Jenks; Cleta Justice, Edmond; brothers, Doin Epps, Ft. Worth, Texas; Olden Epps, Jenks; two grandchildren, Scott and Kim Hogan; four stepgrandchildren, Laura Sowder, Tim Ashlock, Robert Wooten and Matt Wooten; and one great-grandchild, Audra Lena Hogan.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewis Wooden; her parents and one brother, Leonard Epps.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. Doyle Seeley officiating. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.

Anna Mae Rhodes

Seminole resident Anna Mae Rhodes died Saturday at a Yukon nursing home. She was 92.

Mrs. Rhodes was born Feb. 14, 1907, in Okemah to William and Bertha Mae (Keir) Tapley. She married Guy Rhodes in 1953 in Oklahoma City.

She lived most of her life in Seminole, moving there from Okemah. She was a homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Plank, Piedmont, and William J. Plank, Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Grace Smith, Alexandria, La.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, three brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Karges officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole.

Virginia Ellen Hart

Virginia Ellen "Aunt Ginger" Hart, 88, died Wednesday in Shawnee.

She was born Feb. 11, 1911, in Madill to Lena (London) and Dr. James Hart Sr.

She attended school in Madill and moved to Wewoka in 1927. She graduated from Wewoka High School in 1929. After graduation, she attended Harding Christian College in Arkansas.

She worked as a secretary in Oklahoma and California for many years. She returned to Wewoka in 1952 to work for her father and brother as a dental assistant. She retired in 1981 and moved in 1988 to Shawnee, where she lived until her death.

Survivors include her brothers, Dr. James Hart Jr., Wewoka, Allwyn Hart, Searcy, Ark., George Hart, Little Rock, Ark., and Harold Hart, Midland, Texas; sisters, Evelyn Burrows, Shawnee, and Naoma Filson, Shawnee; and many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great-nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Wewoka with Johnny Hinton officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Lee Carroll Lamar

Lee Carroll Lamar died Thursday in Oklahoma City. He was 91.

Lamar was born Nov. 25, 1907, in Tulsa to Lee Boyd and Lettie (Horton) Lamar.

He married Lucille E. Way Dec. 30, 1931, in Tulsa. She preceded him in death Feb. 19.

Lamar was a resident of Edmond for 21 years. He was a active volunteer for the Edmond Senior Citizens Center and a hydrology and environmental consultant for the Edmond City Council. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and was a retired geologist for the Exxon Oil Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Niblack; stepbrother, Homer Dowell and son-in-law, Anthony Vaccaro.

Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Pam and Gene Liga, Edmond, and Carol Vaccaro, Edmond; sister, Gladys Chambers, LaGrange, Texas; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. today at the Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.
