O.T. Bowermaster

O.T. Bowermaster, 80, Shawnee died Sunday in a local nursing home.

He was born Nov. 19, 1918, in Shawnee to O.T. Bowermaster Sr. and Myrtie (Gray) Bowermaster. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1937 and was a retired salesman with Kib Warren's. He worked for Kib Warren's for about 20 years. Before that, he worked with Oklahoma Distribution Co. and RC Cola as a route driver.

He was married in Shawnee to Lora Mae Goodwin. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving in 1942-45, and 1949-52. He received two bronze stars and The Purple Heart.

He was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodists Church, and a lifetime member of the American Legion, serving as a two-time Commander with the American Legion. He was a member of the Shawnee VFW, No. 4018, a veteran's organization and the Disabled American Veterans.

He lived in Shawnee all his life.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Mae Bowermaster, and two daughters, Bettie Real and Bernice McIlhaney.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Mel Johnson of Shawnee; two grandsons and wives, Buddy and Tracy Kyzer of Oklahoma City; Jeffrey McIlhaney of Texas; two granddaughters, Marci Lynn McIlhaney of Texas, and Heather Johnson of Shawnee; granddaughter and husband, Carolyn and Vance Gibbs; and two great-granddaughters, Ashley Kyzer and Kaitlynn Kyzer of Oklahoma City; great-granddaughter and husband, Jamie and Jason.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim High officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Elmer Clinton Fisher

Tecumseh resident Elmer Clinton Fisher died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 77.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Fisher was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Texas, to James Edward and Artie (Vickers) Fisher. He attended Gravel Hill Schools in Coulter, Texas, and was a laborer.

He married Flossie Mae Farmer on Feb. 3, 1942, in Konawa, and had lived in Tecumseh since 1959.

Survivors include his wife, Flossie Fisher of the home; two brothers, James Fisher of Hale Center, Texas, Charles Fisher of Abernathy, Texas; a sister, Deloris Garcia of Lubbock, Texas; a grandson, Tommy Lynn Blair of Eureka Springs, Texas; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna Blair; two brothers and a sister.

P.K. Read

Retired Tinker Air Force Base employee P.K. Read died Wednesday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 73.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earnest Strong officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The Shawnee resident was born March 5, 1925, in Beaumont, Texas, to Preston K. and Billie Hazel and attended Oklahoma Baptist University.

He retired as a supervisor at Tinker Air Force Base and served in the U.S. Navy.

He lived in Yuma, Ariz., before returning to Shawnee two months ago.

He married Colleen Smith on March 11, 1953, in Houston, Texas. He attended the Assembly of God in Shawnee and was a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Club.

Survivors include his wife, Colleen Read of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Trisha and Jerry Story of Belle Plaine, Kan.; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul K. and Renee Read of Houston, Texas; a sister, Maria Kersieck of Newkirk; four grandchildren, Patti and Jennifer Read, Shawnna and Chris Boyce.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Read; a sister, Elaine Sebourn; a son-in-law, Donald Boyce.

Rowena Harjo Sands

Rowena Harjo Sands, 39, Castle, died Thursday at her home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah with the Rev. Judson Deere officiating. Burial will be at the family cemetery.

Mrs. Sands was born March 31, 1959, in Claremore, to Jonah Sands and Bertha Harjo. She had worked at Kwikset in Bristow and had been a teacher's aide for 13 years. She was a resident of Castle most of her life.

Survivors include her parents, Jonah and Bertha Sands of Castle; three sons, Christopher Sands of the home, Joe Don Yargee of the home, Garrett Sands of the home; five brothers, Arthur Sands, Michael Sands, Brian Sands, all of Castle, Bruce Sands of Lawrence, Kan., Carl Sands of Bristow; two sisters, Peggy Sands of Oklahoma City, Mary Stilwell of Bristow.

Johnnie Nanaeto Jr.

Shawnee resident Johnnie Nanaeto Jr., 53, died Thursday.

Tribal rites will be 7 p.m. today at the Wahpepah/Nanaeto family home. Burial will be at the family cemeteryin Jones under the direction of the Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.

Nanaeto was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Claremore, to Johnnie and Harriett (McClellan) Nanaeto. He was an enrolled member of the Sac and Fox Nation of Oklahoma and was also one-half Kickapoo.

He was an oil field worker and welder.

Survivors include a son, John Travis Nanaeto of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Crystal Amber Nanaeto of Shawnee; two grandchildren; his parents, of Jones; a brother, Larry Nanaeto; a sister, Linda Standing of Jones; two adopted brothers, Michael Keahna of Tama, Iowa, and James Starr of Stroud; and several other relatives.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Jerry Nanaeto.

Mae Lydia West Austian

Longtime area resident Mae Lydia West Austian of Tecumseh died Monday at the age of 94.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with Bob Anderson and Junior Mize officiating. Burial will be in Wanette Cemetery.

Mae Lydia West was born March 18, 1904, in Trousdale, the daughter of C.J. and Mindia (Overturff) West. She attended her first years of school at Martel School, then attended and graduated from Wanette High School.

She prepared for a teaching career at the Teacher's College in Ada. She lived in Wanette for several years and taught for seven years at Crossroads, Lone Hill and Martel schools.

She married Thomas Austian in Shawnee on Nov. 20, 1939, and they ranched near Anderson, Okla., for many years. They also built a rural Church of Christ at Anderson where her husband ministered for many years.

They moved to Tecumseh in 1972 and were members of Tecumseh Church of Christ.

Mrs. Austian was preceded in death by her husband in 1992; her parents; one sister, Annie Fanning, and one brother, Joe W. West.

Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Wilburn and Myrtle West, Wynnewood, and many other relatives.

David Maurice Garrison

David Maurice Garrison died Saturday near Prague. He was 21.

He was born April 28, 1977, at Bartlesville, the son of Guy Daniel and Georgie Carol (Meeker) Garrison. He worked at Wrangler, Inc., at Seminole and attended the Church of Christ in Davenport.

He was preceded in death by two grandfathers.

Survivors include his parents, Guy and Georgie Garrison, of the home; sisters, Michelle Carroll, Bartlesville; Cindy Hines, Shawnee; grandmothers, Lela Myrtle Garrison, Kendrick; Clara Meeker, Georgetown, Texas, and many other relatives.

Services were Monday at Davenport Church of Christ with Durston Dove officiating. Burial was at New Zion Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Charles Luther Dickerson Jr.

Charles Luther Dickerson Jr. died Saturday at his Davenport home at the age of 80.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at First Christian Church of Stroud with the Rev. Ronald Allton officiating. Burial will be at Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud.

Charles Luther Dickerson Jr. was born in Shawnee on Oct. 3, 1917, the son of Charles L. Sr. and Mary Lou Lee Dickerson.

He married Augusta Parks in Shawnee on Aug. 19, 1939. He retired from Chemical Express where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He had lived in the Davenport and Stroud area most of his life and was a Mason and a member of Stroud First Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Augusta, of the home; son, Howard Dickerson, Davenport; daughter, Jo Norman, Davenport; brothers, Bud Dickerson, Farmington, N.M.; James Dickerson, Lindsey, Calif.; sister, Mary Burdick, Shawnee; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.
