Jimmy Ray Denton

Earlsboro resident Jimmy Ray Denton died Saturday in Oklahoma City. He was 48.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Little Cemetery under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home, with Junior Mize officiating.

Denton was born July 30, 1950, in Seminole to Mary Juanita Denton.

Survivors include his brother, Johnny Porter, Earlsboro; and his aunt, Nellie Nettles, Earlsboro.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Juanita Denton, and his grandparents.

Dean Lee Taylor

A memorial service for Dean Lee Taylor will be held 5 p.m. Thursday at St. Anselm's of Canterbury Chapel in Norman.

Dean Lee Taylor was born in Clinton, Okla., on July 2, 1947. He graduated from Shawnee High School and from Oklahoma State University. He received a doctor of philosophy degree from Stanford University. In 1976, he joined the faculty of Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University.

Taylor died July 31, 1997, at Ithaca, N.Y., at the age of 50. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Mathews) Taylor; daughter, Lauren; his mother, Annabelle (Rea) Taylor; a sister, Jean (Taylor) Simpson, both of Clinton; brother, Ralph Taylor, Arapaho, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Janie Mathews, Shawnee.

Ella Mildred Guy

Ella Mildred Guy died Saturday at her Tecumseh residence at the age of 60.

She was born April 16, 1938, in Rampart, Alaska, to Jessie and Elaine (Woods) Evans. She married Frank Guy in October 1974 in Reno, Nev., and was a homemaker. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Lady Elks. She was Episcopal and had lived in Tecumseh for three years.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Guy, of the home; sons, Mitchell Brown, Keith Brown, Harley Jr. Brown, all of Rampart, Ala.; daughters, Bernadine Shiprack, Donna Williams, Brenda Williams, all of Rampart; sisters, Minnie Hart, Ethel Smith, Ann Taylor, Paula Evans, Elaine Long, all of Rampart; and a brother, Roy Evans of Rampart, Alaska.

Preceding her in death were her son, a sister, two brothers and her parents.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel and a memorial service will be held in Rampart, Alaska.

Dorothy Elese Tolson Dyke

Dorothy Elese Tolson Dyke, 84, died August 4, 1998, at Meeker Nursing Center in Meeker. She was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Bethesda, Md., to Edward Lawrence and Ada May Tolson. She grew up in Bethesda where she graduated from McKinley Tech High School, Washington, D.C., in 1932.

She worked for the federal government with the Farm Credit Administration in Washington, D.C., and later with the Federal Aviation Administration in Kansas City.

On Nov. 17, 1938, she married Irvin Sawyer Dyke in Bethesda. They moved to Kansas City in 1942 where they made their home for more than 40 years. Irv and Dorothy moved to Foxwood Springs Retirement Center in Raymore, Mo., in 1983, before he preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1985. She moved to Meeker in 1996 to be closer to her children.

Mrs. Dyke was a longtime member of Countryside Christian Church, Mission, Kan., where she played the piano, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was a seamstress and gardener.

She belonged to several church circles and to Civ-air-ettes (originally a Civil Aeronautics Board auxiliary), an FAA women's group.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Sue Dyke of Shawnee; three daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor C. and Bill Mowery of Oklahoma City, Nancy K. and Tim Reitz of North Platte, Neb, and Elizabeth A. and Bob Randall of Lawrence, Kan.; eight grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Gordon Dyke of Mission, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

At her request, her body was donated to KU Medical Center. Memorials are suggested to Countryside Christian Church, where the service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Saturday. Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jewell Swinney

Jewell Swinney, 78, of Foster died Thursday.

She was born Aug. 22, 1919, to Clarence and Effie G. (Covey) Wilson in Burneyville. She was a homemaker and a member of Saterwhite Missionary Baptist Church. She had lived in Foster for 18 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Crawford of Tribbey and Jonell Newman of Chester, Va.; son, Loye Swinney of Foster, 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman L. Swinney, and sons, Clarence Swinney, Thomas Ray Swinney and Jason Lee Swinney.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at McAlister Cemetery in Marsden with the Rev. Jim Crawford officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

Aaron Jon Boss

Aaron Jon Boss died Thursday in Oklahoma City at the age of 27.

He was born March 26, 1971, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Lawrence G. and Beverly Jean (Harris) Allen. He married Melanie Grandstaff in Chandler on Aug. 25, 1990.

He worked at Jett Products and was a member of First Assembly of God Church at Chandler.

His father preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie Boss, Wellston; daughters, Hanna Boss and Emma Boss, of the home; mother, Beverly Allen, Edmond; three sisters, Dawn Boss and Stacey Hoover, both of Ohio, and Karri Webster, Kansas, and many other relatives.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Chandler First Assembly of God with the Rev. Doyle Seeley officiating. Burial will be at Star Valley Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

Lonnie Jack Dossey

Former area resident Lonnie Jack Dossey of Reno, Nev., died Tuesday at the age of 93.

He was born Sept. 19, 1904, in Meeker, the son of Charles Dossey and Ethel Sandlin. He was an automotive mechanic and had moved from Shawnee to Reno in 1941. He was Methodist.

Surviving are his wife, Vera Dossey, Reno, Nev.; son, Jack Dossey, Reno, Nev.; daughter, Rosalyn Casey, Sparks, Nev.; sister, Beatrice Kinnaman, Shawnee, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday at Reno First United Methodist Church with burial in Masonic Memory Gardens of Reno. Arrangements were under the direction of Walton Funeral Home, Reno. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 209 W. First St., Reno NV 89503.

Bettie V. Webb

Choctaw resident Bettie V. Webb died Thursday in Edmond. She was 72.

Services were Saturday at Asa Smith Chapel, Harrah. Burial followed in Wellston Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Webb was born April 30, 1926, in Culver, Kan. She married Ovie G. Webb in 1962. They lived in Harrah until they moved to Choctaw in 1991. She was a member of the Bethel Christian Center.

Survivors include her husband, Ovie G. Webb; two daughters, Betty Norton, Oklahoma City and Linda Clevenger, Edmond; three step-daughters, Charlotte McGee, Harrah, Shirley Vannoy, Ardmore and Mary Ruth Taylor, Jones; brother, Earl Brandt, Reno, Nev.; sister, Rowena Stratton, Lawrenceburg, Ky.; and three grandchildren.

H.C. Ownbey

Newalla resident H.C. Ownbey died Friday in Oklahoma City. He was 73.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Newalla. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Ownbey was born July 10, 1924, in Newalla. He married Marguerite Manley in Harrah on June 17, 1944.

He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Newalla.

He was employed by Mercury Refining and later by Sinclair Oil Co. He operated his own petroleum transport company for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Ownbey; his mother, Myrtle Ownbey, Newalla; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Benny Stroope, Choctaw; daughter, Diane Magee, Midwest City; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Dolores Ownbey, Newalla; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Ownbey; brother, Ray Ownbey Jr.; and two infant children.

V. Estus Brigham

Brooksville resident V. Estus Brigham died Wednesday in Brooksville. He was 66.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Baptist Church, Brooksville, with the Rev. Lee Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Brooksville Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Brigham was born June 10, 1932, in Greenville, Texas, to Chester and Druzella Brigham. He married Velma Jean Thompson in Phoenix, Ariz., on Aug. 30, 1986.

After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he lived in Arizona where he owned and operated Estus Auto Parts and was a member of Emmanuel Church of God and Christ, Phoenix. He moved to Brooksville in 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Velma Jean Brigham, of the home; two sons, Douglas and Mark Brigham, both of Phoenix; daughter, Debbie Richardson, Jacksonville, Fla.; several grandchildren; one great-grandson; step-daughters and step-sons; and many other relatives and friends.
