Geraldean Wright Shaw

Geraldean Wright Shaw, 68, Seminole, died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born March 12, 1930, in Denison, Texas, to O.C. and Mattie Lee (Sayles) Wright. She married Seymore Shaw Sr., on Feb. 27, 1949, in Oklahoma City. She moved to Seminole from Texas seven years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Galilee Baptist Church, Seminole.

She is survived by sons James Nugent Jr., Denison, Texas; Seymore Shaw, Jr., Shawnee; Fredrick Shaw, McLoud, and Andre Shaw, Seminole; daughters Beverly Depp, Shawnee; Jeraldean Crawford, Gwendolyn Powell, Mattie Hartfield, and Mable Davis, all of Seminole; and Marilyn Mitchell, Oklahoma City; 62 grandchildren; and 61 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Ernest Leon Shaw in 1990; a brother; and two granddaughters, Roshawna Shaw in 1986 and Kiasa Depp in 1989.

Services will be noon Saturday at the Galilee Baptist Church, Seminole, with the Rev. Larry Crawford officiating, assisted by the Rev. Leland Calip. Burial will be in Forest Garden Cemetery, Spencer. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Samuel Eugene Thompson

Samuel "Sam" Eugene Thompson, 66, Seminole died Tuesday at his home.

He was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Seminole to Samuel Owen and Chloe (Mattison) Thompson. He married Ruby Edna (Hostetler) Wilson on March 10, 1971, in Satanta, Kan. He was the chief operator for Occidental Petroleum for 25 years. He retired in 1990. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and affiliated with the Southern Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He is survived by his wife of the home; three sons, Larry, Michael, and Gene Thompson, all of Oklahoma City; two stepsons, Max and Dennis Gunkel, both of Oklahoma City; brother, James Thompson, Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Seminole, with the Rev. Ron Cox officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Cemetery.

Albert Leon Grainger

Albert Leon Grainger, 84, Sulphur, died June 8.

He was born Dec. 25, 1913, in Pepperell, Mass., to John Thomas and Christie Anna (Neiforth) Grainger. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps on Sep. 2, 1937, and served until 1945. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 until his retirement in 1961. He then entered federal civil service at Tinker Air Force Base. He married Veldean Peeler on Feb. 1, 1969. He retired in the late 1970s. He lived in Shawnee and Tecumseh for 19 years before moving to the Veterans Administration Center, Sulphur. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Shawnee; Masonic Lodge No. 107, India Temple Shrine, Shawnee; and many other Masonic organizations. He was the past presiding officer of Composite Lodge No. 107, A.F. and A.M.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Martin, Tecumseh; sister-in-law, Jean Nichols, Norman; sister-in-law, Betty Cox, Greenbury, Texas; grandniece, Ginger Christy, Oklahoma City; son, Albert G. Grainger, Wayne, Pa.; brothers, Arthur Grainger, Westminister, Mass.; John Grainger, New Hampshire.; Donald Grainger, Hudson, N.H.; Howard Grainger, Fitchburg, Mass.; and three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Andrew, and Tracy Grainger, all of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Raymond Grainger.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park with Bob Anderson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Erma Jean McKinley

Erma Jean McKinley, 69, Stroud, died June 8 in Oklahoma City.

She was born on Dec. 22, 1928, in Seminole. She was a homemaker who lived most of her life in the Stroud and St. Joseph, Mo. areas. She attended the First Baptist Church, Stroud.

She is survived by three sons, Ira Ackerman, Stroud, Jamie Ackerman, St. Joseph, Mo., and Justin Ackerman, Muldrow; daughter Mary Rowland, Dallas, Texas; brother Arnold Hoover, Drumright; sister Katheryn Titus, Stroud; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Chet Ackerman and Bo McKinley, a daughter, a brother and a sister.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, Stroud, with the Rev. Burl Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Stroud Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Stroud.

Geneva Mae Mitchell Colten

McLoud resident Geneva Mae Mitchell Colten died Monday in Midwest City. She was 53.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Will Bentley officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery, Jacktown, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Colten was born Dec. 17, 1944, in Leedey to Henry and Ruby Mitchell. She married Henry Colten on June 8, 1965, in Clayton, N.M.

She lived in Woodward until moving to McLoud in 1991.

She was a cross-country truck driver with J.B. Hunt.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Colten Sr., of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Cindy Colten, Jones, and Johnny and Emma Colten, Shawnee; sons, Mike Colten, of the home, Tony Wayne Mitchell, Woodward, Kelly Colten, McLoud, and Wally Colten, of the home; her mother, Ruby Redd, Shawnee; two sisters, Norma Kibler, Dodge City, Kan., and Saundra Taylor, Woodward; three brothers, Bobby Driskell, Shawnee, Dennis Mitchell, Florida and Dale Mitchell, Bethel; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother.

Teresa Mae Adams

Teresa Mae Adams died Monday in Oklahoma City. She was 88.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Davenport Church of the Nazarene with Chaplain Larry Thompson and the Rev. Cleon Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

Adams was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Denver, Colo., to Ralph and Josephine (Reed) Howard. She married John Thompson Adams on Oct. 5, 1928, in Stroud.

She was the head of the Davenport School cafeteria and was an active member of the Davenport Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include three sons, Lowell Adams, Oklahoma City, Melvin Adams, Phoenix, Ariz., and Claude Adams, Kansas City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Thompson Adams in 1982; a son; one sister; and one brother.

Joyce B. Reeder

Seminole homemaker Joyce B. Reeder died Monday in Oklahoma City. She was 70.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Rick Harrison and the Rev. Tim Quick officiating.

Mrs. Reeder was born April 24, 1928, in Racine, Wis., to Walter and Elsie (Hess) Carre. She married Kenneth Reeder on Oct. 6, 1959, in Bowling Green, Ky., and moved to Seminole from Florida one year ago. She attended both Lutheran and Baptist churches.

Survivors include a daughter, Lana Carol Forneris of Seminole; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, her parents, and a son, Lon Emory Sweely.

Murlene LaRhue Plank

Hinton homemaker Murlene LaRhue Plank died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 67.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Grace Mont Assembly of God Church in Hinton with the Rev. Goff officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Mrs. Plank was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Lindsey, to William D. Green and Hazel R. Price Plank. She attended Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City and married Jesse Plank on Jan. 29, 1949, in Oklahoma City.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and had lived in Hinton for 25 years.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Plank; five children, Bonnie Gene Wixson of Del City, Gayla Lynne Weeden of Earlsboro, Danny Ray Plank of Oklahoma City, Randy Lee Plank of Shawnee, Johnny Paul Plank of Maud; a sister, Maxine Hoover of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, Glenn Green of Prague, Gene Green of Oklahoma City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William D. Green and Hazel R. Price Plank; a grandchild, Shantrel Plank; a great-grandchild, Shasta Murlene Wixson.

Velna V. Cranford

Maud resident Velna V. Cranford died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 72.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Knight Funeral Home of Maud. The Rev. Jim Kirkendall will officiate.

She was born in Atoka on Feb. 16, 1926, the daughter of Sam and Lora (Ladd) Winters. She graduated from McLish High School. She married Harold Cranford on Dec. 9, 1944, in Oklahoma City and moved from Seminole to Maud in 1953.

Mrs. Cranford was a member of First Baptist Church of Maud and had retired from Shawnee Regional Hospital.

Preceding her in death were her husband in 1983, her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Janet Cranford, Tecumseh; son, Mike Cranford, Alaska; brother, Dave "Crockett" Winters, Davis, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
