Thomas Marvin Dowd

Asher farmer Thomas Marvin Dowd died Friday at a Konawa nursing home. He was 84.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vista Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home in Konawa.

Dowd was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Asher, to Thomas Monroe Dowd and Elvira Browder. He lived in Asher his entire life.

Survivors include a daughter, Reba Virginia Dowd of Asher.

William Elmer Walker

Vietnam War veteran Willam Elmer "Bill" Walker, Green Forest, Ark., died Wednesday in Berryville, Ark., at the age of 53.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Victory Tabernacle Full Gospel Church in Green Forest, Ark., with the Rev. Arlie Burks officiating. Burial will be at Farewell Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.

Walker was born May 19, 1945, in Meeker, to S.W. Stacy Wilber "Dub" and Helen M. (Holder) Walker. He married Debora Dees on Dec. 3, 1991, and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked for Tyson Foods and retired from Tinker Air Force Base, where he was an aircraft mechanic supervisor. Walker owned the Border Security Agency and Batter Up Sports Cards. He was a member of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the Victory Tabernacle Full Gospel Church in Green Forest. He was also a member of the VFW Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah (Dees) Walker of the home; a son, Billy Walker of Oklahoma City; four daughters, Lori Ledford of Shawnee, Terry Jo Walker and Kerri Walker, both of Meeker, Amber Walker of Green Forest, Ark.; his parents, S.W. and Helen Walker of Meeker; two brothers, James Walker of McLoud, John Walker of Meeker; a sister, Fern Walker of Meeker; two stepsons, Darril Miner of Shawnee, Randall Miner of Atkinson, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Iris Church of Springdale, Ark.; his mother-in-law, Joyce Dees of Green Forest, Ark.; a brother-in-law, James Dees of Green Forest, Ark.; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Earl Dees.

Helen Francis Lammerson Petersen

Former Shawnee resident Helen Francis Lammerson Petersen died Saturday at a Downey, Calif., nursing home. She was 82.

Private family services were previously held.

She was born Nov. 13, 1915, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Anna Lammerson.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Inman of Shawnee; two grandsons, Todd Kinnamon of Shawnee, Jason Kinnamon of Oklahoma City; and several relatives living in Arizona, Washington and California.

James Leonard Sharp

James Leonard Sharp, 85, Cleveland County, died Friday at a Norman hospital following a sudden illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in McMahans Funeral Home Chapel of Prayer, Noble, with the Rev. John Coker officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Maguire.

He was born Jan. 1, 1913, in Sevierville, Tenn., to William Alexander and Laura Charlotte (Coker) Sharp. He moved to Cleveland County at the age of 5 and attended school at Etowah.

He married Christine Ella Woodrow on Nov. 14, 1931, and worked for the Transportation Department of the Noble School System for 26 years. He was a member of the Etowah Baptist Church. He was a farmer and rancher.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on Sept. 5, 1995; two sons, Arthur Duane and Regis "Rick" James; daughter Treva Suella; two sisters, Lucy Richardson and Juanita Moutah; and brother Harvey.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Wyema and Homer Williams, Shawnee; daughter-in-law Cathy Sharp, Noble; sister Dorothy Gray, California; grandchildren, Ronda and Tom Loveless, Keith and Michele Sharp, Christine Elizabeth Sharp, Brad and Rhonda Sharp, Scotty Sharp, and Natasha Sharp, all of Noble; David and Terri Williams, Macomb; LeeAnn and Kirk Merrell, Edmond; and Brenda and Greg Deathrage, Shawnee; many great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Paul Morris Williams

Paul Morris Williams, 91, a lifetime Shawnee resident, died Friday in Carrollton, Texas.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

He was born Dec. 16, 1906, in Shawnee to Benjamin Franklin and Siretha "Sitha" Jane (Smith) Williams. He married Mildred Ruth Overstreet on Nov. 8, 1926, in Shawnee.

Williams attended Immanuel Baptist Church and was a Mason.

He worked for Safeway and Kroger grocery stores and owned the Williams Red and White Grocery on Pottenger Street.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim Morris and Klara Williams, Murrieta, Calif., and Kenneth Paul and Carolyn Williams, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Guy Allen and April Williams, Midwest City, Okla.; Randy Paul and Lucia Williams, Denver, Colo.; Aerin Elizabeth Williams, Dallas, Texas; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, and two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 13301 N. Meridian, Suite 101, Oklahoma City, 73120.

Peggee Lasley

Peggee Lasley, 71, Pawhuska, died Saturday at a Pawhuska hospital. She was the mother-in-law of former Shawnee resident Gloria Blanchard Lasley.

She was born Aug. 23, 1926, in Bristow to Granville and Dora (Minix) Stone. She attended Hominy Schools, and she married Raymond Lasley Sr. in April, 1952. She was a homemaker.

An Osage tribal member, she was a member of the Grayhorse War Mothers, Klash Kah She, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a master moccasin and buckskin dress maker.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, Raymond Lasley II, Grayhorse, and Marvin Lasley, Tulsa; four daughters, Raelene Bear, Lawrence, Kan.; Debbie Carpenter, Pawhuska; Michelle Lasley, Norman; ad Lori Morgan, Bartlesville; brother Commodore Stone, Tulsa; sister Patricia Maker, Hominy; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Van and Eddie Stone; three sisters, Jean, Melba, and Wattie; and one grandson, Roanhorse Clark.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fairfax. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the same location, with Father Ken Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Grayhorse Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home, Fairfax.

Barbara June Honn

Barbara June Honn, 59, a lifelong Shawnee resident, died Thursday in Shawnee.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with James Walters officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 1, 1938, in Little Axe to Fred and Opal (Carter) Martin. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1957 and on Sept. 15, 1986, she married Lewis Honn in Wichita Falls, Texas.

She had worked at General Motors, Oklahoma City, for 19 years and was a member of the UAW Union Local 1999.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; her mother, of Shawnee; son Fred Chastain, Fort Worth, Texas; and grandchildren Jake Chastain, Christopher Hernandez, Monticello Hernandez, and Julio Hernandez, all of Fort Worth, Texas.

Ola Kay Holmes

Former Shawnee resident Ola Kay Holmes, 83, Irving, Texas, died Friday at an Irving hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, with Bill Matthews officiating, assisted by Phil Thompson. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Hico, Texas, to Joseph Lewis and Maude Etta (Northcross) Wisdom. She married Frank Holmes Sept. 15, 1931. She moved to Irving three years ago. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Jim Bozeman, San Angelo, Texas, and Sue and Al Wolbrueck, Irving, Texas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ollie Hayden, McAllister, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991, her parents, seven sisters, and a brother.

Wesley Gates

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Cemetery for Wesley Hugh Gates, 86, who died Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a former resident of Shawnee.

He was born June 3, 1912, in Gentry, Ark. He graduated from Earlsboro High School in 1930 and from Seminole Junior College in 1932.

He married Katherine Losure in 1935. He worked in Oklahoma and Texas for Magnolia Petroleum Company, which later became Mobil Oil, for 41 years. He retired in 1977. He lived in Duncan, Shawnee and Ada.

He was a member of the Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Master Mason, and was active in the Republican party.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Fleta; daughters Dixie Utsey, Fort Worth, Texas, and Linda Porter, Calabasas Park, Calif.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
