Jack Lee Sparger
Jack Lee Sparger, 71, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Wednesday, September 24, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Visitation
will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Monday, September 29, 2003
at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman. Graveside Services
will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Highland
Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Sparger was born April 25, 1932 in Durant, Oklahoma,
to Harry D. and Birdie Lee Moody Sparger. He grew up in Durant,
Oklahoma and graduated for high school there in 1950. He moved
to Norman, Oklahoma from Ada, Oklahoma in 1968. Mr. Sparger
worked as a clerk typist for the Severe Storms Laboratory for six
years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Sparger was a
member of First Christian Church.
Mr. Sparger was preceded in death by his parents, one sister
and three brothers. Survivors include his sister, Rebecca Sparger of
Durant, Oklahoma and a number of nieces and nephews.

John Robert Taylor
John Robert Taylor went to be with the Lord on Monday, September
29, 2003. He was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on May 11, 1925. John
was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Reba Taylor, and brother,
Ralph Taylor, Jr., all of Bartlesville, as well as his sister, Maribel1e Ledlie,
of Tyler, Texas.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nova Taylor, of Norman,
Oklahoma, and sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Stacy Taylor of Ft.
Myers, Florida, and Tye and Shelly Taylor of Rowlett, Texas. John was
affectionately referred to as G-Dad by his five grandchildren, John Robert
Taylor, and Carl Anthony Taylor, of Ft. Myers, FL, and Bayley, Bryne and
Thaddeus John Taylor of Rowlett, TX. In addition to his wife, children, and
grandchildren, John deeply loved his three sisters-in-law. Kathy Nail of
Phoenix, Arizona, was loved as if she were his own daughter.
John joined the military as a Navy Cadet at the age of seventeen. He
received his Naval wings in Jacksonville, Florida, at 18 years of age. John
was awarded the honor of serving in a select group of naval aviators. He
graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Geology. John worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in Midland,
TX, for many years, and returned to Norman, Oklahoma, in 1963 to work
with Reserve National Insurance Company.
Later, John joined his wife and went into the real estate business. He
and Nova worked together in Norman, OK, for over 30 years. For the last 11
years, until the time of his death, John and Nova worked together at Don
Cies, Inc., in Norman, OK. John was a faithful member of Westside Church
of Christ in Norman. He touched the lives of many people, who will forever
remember him.

to be present with the Lord” 2 Corinthians 5:8

Herbert C. Tullius
Herbert C. Tullius, 88, of
Norman, Oklahoma, died Thursday,
October 2, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma.
A Vigil will be held at 6:30 P.M., Friday,
October 3, 2003 at Havenbrook Funeral
Home in Norman. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M.,
Saturday, October 4, 2003 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Norman, Oklahoma
with Reverend Edward Menasco,
celebrant. Interment will follow at the St.
Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be
Jim Ziweslin, Wayne Wheeler, Alan Tullius, Jerry Bruce, Olan Todd
and Jim Driscoll. Honorary Bearers will be Tom Mabry, Jerry and
Wiley Madole, Robert Valouch, Gordon McCraw, Ken Ulrich, Leo
Meiser, Ray Meyer and Leroy Tullius. Services are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Mr. Tullius was born July 11, 1915 to Frank Joseph and
Henrietta Dallmeier Tullius. He grew up in Norman and graduated
from St. Joseph High School and continued to live in the family home
where he was born. On November 27, 1939, he married Etoyle
Homer, his wife of sixty-four years. They moved to California for
two years and then returned to the occupation he loved, farming and
raising cattle. His garden was his pride and joy and he shared it with
many friends. Mr. Tullius liked to travel, but most of all he liked
spending time with family.
Mr. Tullius was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic
Church. In 1984 he received the St. Joseph Worker of the Year
award. He was a charter member of the Golden Agers and retired
from the board of directors of Farm Bureau Insurance after serving as
treasurer for thirty six years.
Mr. Tullius was preceded in death by his parents; four
brothers, Michael, Eugene, John & Carol; two sisters, Margaret
Kocher and Marie Dietz; and a son, David. Survivors include his
wife, Etoyle of the home; four children, Judy Fox and husband,
Willard of Washington, Diane McCreight and husband, Dr. William
of Oklahoma City, Jerry Tullius and wife, Sylvia and John Tullius
and wife, Gretta, all of Norman; nine grandchildren, Larry & Jeff
Fox, Robin Britt, Sandy Wilson, Zane Fields, Joshua, Kaley, Ashley
& Hannah Tullius; six great-grandchildren and two step great-grand
nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law, Ernestine Tullius &
Lillian Thorpe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Bldg Fund.

Olivia Jane Dougherty Wallace
Olivia Jane Dougherty Wallace, of Norman died late
September 28th at home after an extended illness. A
celebration of Olivia's life will be held at the First Presbyterian
Church in Norman, Oklahoma at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 17,
2003.
Olivia was born February 19th 1934 in Bellefontaine, Ohio,
she was the daughter of the late Dr. Clark McReight and Olivia
French Blinn Dougherty. Olivia attended Western College for
Women in Oxford, Ohio for three years. She was a flight hostess
with TWA. She also was a medical transcriptionist for Lompoc
Memorial Hospital. Olivia was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church of Norman. Her lifelong passion was playing the violin
and enjoyed the piano and classical music. For many years she
greatly enjoyed being a member of the
Lompoc Pops and the Santa Maria Symphony Orchestra.
Survivors include three sisters, Mary Jean Dougherty of Pacifica,
Calif., Ruth Joyce Zimmerly of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and
Elizabeth Joan Eichele of Coshocton, Ohio. Olivia had three sons
and daughters-in-law, Howard Clark and Janet Wallace of Lompoc
California, Joseph Martin and Stormy Wallace of Grass Valley,
California, and William Alston and Teri Wallace of Norman.
Olivia had 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Olivia, Clark William, Jo
Janelle, Sara Jean Wallace
of Lompoc, and William Alston Jr., John Chaney, and Andrea Lee Wallace of
Norman. In keeping with her wishes, Olivia's body is to be
cremated and buried with her parents in Evergreen Burial Park in
New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Arthur Kenneth Bernier
Arthur Kenneth Bernier, 69, of
Norman died Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at
Norman Regional Hospital. Visitation will be
held at Havenbrook Funeral Home, in
Norman, on Thursday and Friday. A
memorial service will be held at Havenbrook
Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 A.M.,
Saturday, May 1, 2004.
Ken was born March 19, 1935 to
Viola and A.C. "Coon" Bernier in Norman,
Oklahoma. He attended Norman Public
Schools through the eighth grade then left to
attend high school at Thomas Jefferson School for Boys in St. Louis.
After graduation, he attended Harvard University graduating Cum
Laude with a B.A. of Architectural Sciences. He then returned to
Norman and in 1958 married Jane Frances Mead, also of Norman. He
served in the U. S. Army from 1957-1959. After the completion of his
military service, Ken began what would become a long career with
Western Electric/A. T.& T. He also obtained his Juris Doctorate from
Oklahoma City University School of Law. At. A.T. & T. he served
in many capacities including, Affirmative Action Officer, before
retiring as their Regional Department Chief for Benefits.
Ken was a proud and devoted husband, father and grandfather
and will also be remembered for his selfless dedication to numerous
community causes. He was a member of many boards including the
Community After School Program and the Pioneer Multi-County
Library System. In addition to being a board member, he also served
terms as Board President/Chair for the United Way, Transition
House, Children's Arts Network, and Jazz In June. He volunteered at
KGOU Public Radio and was active in the realization of Norman's
new animal adoption shelter. Ken was a past nominee for Norman's
Volunteer of the Year and in 2001 was awarded the Norman Arts and
Humanities Council Person in the Arts Award.
He belonged to various organizations including Sooner
Rotary, the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Norman Chamber of
Commerce, and McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include
his wife, Jane; daughters, Michelle Little and husband, Sam, of
Edmond, Christie Tongier and husband, Jason, of Norman and Sarah
Gillard – to whom Ken was a surrogate father- and husband, Phil, of
Tonbridge, England; grandchildren Stephanie, Jessica, Madeline, Nia,
Serena, Ben, and Francesca; brother, R. Dell Bernier and wife,
Debby, of Tulsa; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial contributions may be sent to any of the
organizations in which Ken was involved.
