Opal Lott

Opal Lott of El Reno died Sunday in El Reno. She was 89.

She was born Oct. 17, 1910, in Ozan, Ark, the daughter of A.C. King and Pearl Clark.

She was a longtime Seminole resident, moving to El Reno 15 years ago. She was married to John Richard Lott, who died April 25, 1971.

Lott was a homemaker and a Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Robert King.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Wilma King of Mission, Texas; a sister, Edith Robertson of El Reno; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery with Jerry Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery, Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Carl Butler

Carl Butler of Cushing died Monday at a Cushing hospital. He was 90.

He was born June 19, 1910, in Cushing to George and Edith (Mason) Butler. He attended school at the Sac and Fox Reservation School and Schlegel School.

In his early years, he helped his parents with their farm work and worked for different people in the community. He also was offered a chance to play professional baseball.

He worked for Douglas Aircraft in Oklahoma City, Kerr McGee in Cushing, Pinkerton Security Agency in Oklahoma City, Red Bird Mower Supply in Tulsa, Sac and Fox Tribe as Second Chief and in many of the tribal programs.

He attended welding school in Oklahoma City and O.S.U. Tech in Okmulgee for small engine repairs.

Butler was a Indian craftsman and writer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 111 and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 32 nd degree, and was a lifetime member of the Native American Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Laura Belle Butler and Sophia Butler, and two sons, Charles F. Butler and George Butler.

Survivors include his six children, Larry Butler and his wife Mary, Alexandria Levier, Benjamin Butler, Oresa Wilson and her husband A.C., Eudora Rogers and her husband James, all of Cushing, and Emma Harjo and her husband Rueben of Tulsa; one sister, Cecilian Littlehead of Shawnee; 33 grandchildren, 94-great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home. The body will then be taken to the Larry Butler home for Native American Church services and burial will follow at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Butler Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home.

Joe Stargell

Joe Stargell of Shawnee died Saturday at a local hospital. He was 82.

He was born Nov. 6, 1917, in Kansas City, Kan. He was the son of William "Bill" Stargell and Nora Mae (Bruner) Stargell.

He was a Pottawatomie County resident for 75 years moving here from Kansas. He married Mae Lee (Jackson) Stargell on Feb. 26, 1938, in Shawnee.

Stargell retired from Tinker Field Air Force Base, where he was a sheet metal worker for 30 years. He was a member of Emmanuel Temple of Praise and Deliverance in Shawnee. He was also a member of New Hope Church for 61 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nora Mae Stargell; brothers, Herman Stargell, William Stargell, Elbert Stargell, Hayes Mayes; son, Joe Wendell Stargell; and grandson, Eric Hutchinson.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Lee Stargell of the home; sons, Kenneth Ray Stargell, Wendell Stargell, Randall Stargell all of Shawnee; daughters, Shirley Edwards of Shawnee; JoAnn Hunter and Wanda Hinex of Midwest City and Loretta Hutchinson of Oklahoma City; brother, Robert Mayes of Tulsa; and a sister, Jean Mayes of Tulsa; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Temple of Praise and Deliverance, Shawnee, with Pastor Odell Hardeman officiating assisted by Randell Harper. Burial will be in Earlsboro under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Joyce Marie Creekmore

Joyce Marie Creekmore of Wichita, Kan., died Sunday. She was 60.

She was an expeditor at Cessna.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Looney of the home; son, Dale Creekmore, Wichita, Kan.; son, Charles Creekmore, Wichita, Kan.; son, Brian Creekmore, Furley, Kan.; son, James Creekmore, Wichita, Kan.; daughter, Barbara Beaman, Augusta, Kan.; brother, William Lee, Tahlequah; brother, Robert Lee, Mulvane, Kan.; sister, Jean Powers, Wichita, Kan.; sister, Judith Davis, Shawnee; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Furley United Methodist Church, under the direction of Resthaven Mortuary No. 2540.

Lessie Ferguson

Lessie Ferguson of Shawnee died Monday at a local nursing home. She was 94.

Services are pending with Resthaven Funeral Home.

Floy E. Taber

Floy E. Taber died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City nursing home at the age of 87.

She was born Feb. 27, 1913, near Prague. She worked for JCPenney, Woolworth, Green's Dress Shop and retired from the family grocery store after 25 years.

She was married to F.E. Taber Dec. 19, 1931, in Wewoka and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Margaret Ann Tillery.

Survivors include her husband of the home, son Gary Taber of Oklahoma City, four grandchildren, Jeff Taber of Oklahoma City, Steve Taber of Kansas City, Mo., Zach Taber of Oklahoma City and Rebecca Tillery of Plano, Texas, two great-granddaughters, one sister, Cleo Robertson of Shawnee, and one brother, Dale Snyder of Dewey, Ariz.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building fund.

Burial will be in Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Marvin H. Neely

Marvin H. Neely, 86, died Monday in a Meeker nursing home.

He was born Nov. 17, 1913, to Ben and Eva (Little) Neely in Prague. He attended Prague Schools, served from 1933 to 1935 in CCC's at Perry and joined the U.S. Army at Fort Sill Aug. 5, 1935.

He was a master sergeant for 17 years before retiring Sept. 30, 1957. He served in Europe in World War II from 1943 to 1945 and in Korea from June 1950 to 1952 and went on several tours of duty during peace time.

He married Lena Leonard Aug. 9. 1941, in Lawton. After his retirement, he moved to Meeker and worked for the school system in Meeker and Lincoln County before retiring in 1974 for health reasons.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Temple Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers, son Lynn, daughter-in-law Margaret and grandson Christopher Allen.

He is survived by his wife, Lena of the home; granddaughters Donna Neely and Amy Neely of Shawnee and Jeri Hildago of St. Lewis, Wash., two great-granddaughters, Eternity Lynne and Lexiss Annikale of St. Lewis, Wash, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Craig officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice or to Hospice of Shawnee.
