Don Shields

Harrah resident Don Shields 57, died Sunday.

He was born to Clarence and Dovie (Duboise) Shields March 22, 1933, in Dale. He was inducted into the U.S. Army April 7, 1953, where he was a paratrooper and tank commander and was discharged July 2, 1956, at Fort Bragg.

Preceding him in death wife, mother and brother, Terry.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, David Shields of Harrah and Chris and Vickie Shields of McLoud, two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and David Kesler of Shawnee and Jan and Gary Ross of Harrah; father, Clarence Shields of Dale, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anita and Jimmy Benedix of Harrah and Janice and Dick Tomlinson of Tecumseh, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and other friends and relatives.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Lorene Middlebrook

Lorene Middlebrook, 86, died Saturday in Arlington, Texas.

She was born Sept. 22, 1913, in Okfuskee County to Samuel Hunter and Alice (Wisdom) Hunter. She married Robert Burton Middlebrook in 1933. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1975. She worked in retail sales.

Mrs. Middlebrook was a member of the First Baptist Church at Okemah, where she lived most of her life.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law, Caroll D. and Ruby Hunter, Harold H. Hunter and Woodrow and Jennie Hunter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia and Roy Arthurs, Ruth and Garland Moon, Mildred and Clifford Jones and Elsie and Leland Clem.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Bob Davidson of Arlington, Texas; sister-in-law, Jean Hunter of DeQuincy, La.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Terry and Karen Davidson of Brasilia, Brazil, Randy and Lisa Davidson of Mansfield, Texas, and Lori and Matt Kaufmann of Tulsa; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Okemah. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Okemah with the Rev. Curtis Townley officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Don Steichen

Don Steichen died Sunday at St. Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City. He was 67.

He was born May 5, 1933, in Perry to Al and Rose (Wagner) Steichen. He served as a welder and a private first class in the U.S. Army from Dec. 17, 1951, to Sept. 23, 1953. He was a high school graduate and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Don Paul Steichen in 1961.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Leah and Mitchell Pappan of Newkirk, Okla., Kathy and Stan Gee of Hot Springs, Ark., and Sheryl Steichen of Edmond; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Tammy Steichen of Enid; granddaughter, Casey Pappan; grandsons, Josh Pappan, Austin Gee and Zachary and Jacob Steichen; brother, Martin Steichen of Ponca City; and sisters, Lorene Artman, Barbara Speilbush and Joan Auld, all of Ponca City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be buried after a private service under the direction of Brown-Sisson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Children's Hospital.

Richard "Rick" Ogle

McLoud resident Richard "Rick" Ogle died Sunday. He was 45.

Services are will be 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, McLoud. Burial will be at Arlington Memory Gardens.

Jack E. Burchette

Jack E. Burchette died Tuesday in Meeker. He was 69.

He was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Rossville. He was the son of Oscar H. and Mary Ellen Wilkins Burchette and lived in the Meeker area most of his life.

He was a retired machinist for Macklanburg-Duncan in Oklahoma City. Burchette pastored the Spring Branch Holiness Church and later attended the Church In The Woods and the Assembly of God Church in Meeker.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He and Mary Ann Kastendieck were married on Aug. 27, 1952.

She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1992.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John Oscar and Jack E., Jr.; one daughter, Carol Ann; two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Michael Fowler, Shawnee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lori Burchette, Meeker; J.F. and Shannon Burchette, Meeker; three brothers and their wives, Max and Della Burchette, Meeker; Ray and Jerrie Burchette, Meeker; Shelby and Mae Burchette, Holdenville; two sisters and their husbands, Barbara Ann and George Buoy, Meeker; Carylon and Glenn Davis, Meeker; one sister-in-law, Lois Burchette, Bixby; eight grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives.

Viewing and visitation will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague until 9 p.m. Wednesday and at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Assembly of God in Meeker with the Rev. Charles Pearcy and the Rev. Howard Peace officiating. Burial will follow in the Rossville Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Allene (Cooper) Grounds

Allene (Cooper) Grounds died Monday in Seminole Estates. She was 91.

She was born on Dec. 5, 1908, to John J. and Alberta (Durbin) Cooper. She was married to Charles Edward Grounds on Oct. 29, 1934, in Shawnee.

She owned the Seminole Credit Bureau and developed the Grounds Addition in Seminole, as well as being a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Seminole County Republican Organization, Federated Women's Club, Seminole Chamber of Commerce and active in the church's choir and building committee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, one sister and her husband.

Survivors include one daughter, Charal Ann Lee of Houston, Texas, one son, Charles Keith Grounds of St. Louis, Mo., two grandchildren, Ryan Grounds of Robinson, Ill., and Allison Grounds of Newburgh, Ind., one sister-in-law, Neva Cooper of Seminole and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church in Seminole. The Rev. David Kargus will officiate under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, with burial in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1314, Seminole.

Anna Wilma Holderfield

Anna Wilma Holderfield died Monday in her home in Depew. She was 84.

She was born March 13, 1916, to Joseph Fredrick and Stella Mae (Roberts) Randle. She was a Depew resident most of her life and was a member of the Church of God in Depew.

She retired from the Depew School cafeteria and was a homemaker. She married Hughie Holderfield on Nov. 17, 1934.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother.

Survivors include three daughters, Wilena Mae and husband Larry Waggoner of Fort Worth, Texas, Joyce Ann Harjo of Tulsa and Darla Jean and husband Bobby Mayberry of Depew, one sister, Lois Elizabeth Blankenship of Gilroy, Calif., six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of God in Depew. The Rev. Clyde McGuire will officiate under the direction of Parks Funeral Home in Stroud. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery.

Martha Ellen Jackson

Martha Ellen Jackson died Sunday in Stroud at the age of 88.

She was born March 28, 1912, in Missouri to Charley Isaac and Frances Carolyn (Carter) Childers. She lived for the last 20 years in Stroud, where she was a musician and a member of the Stroud Christian Church.

She was also a member of the American Legion and Historical Society in Stroud. She married Neal Jackson on Oct. 12, 1943. She started the Martha Jackson Singers and sang in the local nursing home and at area events. She was also a volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce and Senior Citizens of Stroud.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, James Paul Eustler, four brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Neal of the home, three grandchildren, Darrel Smith of Odessa, Mo., Denise Ellen Smith of Madison, N.J., Wesley G. Smith of Independence, Mo., six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Stroud Christian Church. The Rev. Randy Ethridge will officiate under the direction of Parks Funeral Home in Stroud.

Sallie Kathryn Bush

Pacifica, Calif., resident Sallie Kathryn Bush died Thursday in Daly City, Calif. She was 90.

Mrs. Bush was born Jan. 31, 1910, in Comanche, Texas, to Robert Randall Potter and Charlsea (Talley) Potter. She married Leon L. Bush.

She worked for Pratt Whitney in Kansas City, Mo., during World War II and also worked as a waitress for several restaurants in Shawnee.

She had lived in Pacifica for the past two years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Bob Kelly, Pacifica; brother and sister, Jeff and Edith Potter; and sister, Cora Kitchel, Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leon Bush on June 24, 1985; sister, Donna Anderson; and four brothers, John Potter, Clarence Potter, Herman Potter and Sherman Potter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Resthaven Memorial Park Trinity Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
