Vivian M. Lund

Vivian M. Lund of Harrah died Friday. She was 90.

She was born on May 25, 1910, in Fleetwood, Okla., to Berry and Ida (Shaw) Brashears.

She was preceded in death by her son, Leroy Vessel, and two daughters, Joyce Marie Vessel and Reta Joy Jones.

Survivors include one grandson, Chuck Jones; one granddaughter, Sherry Jones; one sister, Omie Byrd; two nephews, Rayford and Alfred Locke; one niece, Wonda Voss; and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Moore Cemetery, Moore, with arrangements directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Orvil L. Locke

Orvil L. Locke of Shawnee died Sunday at a local hospital. He was 90.

He was born Aug. 28, 1909, in Chattanooga, Okla., the son of William Calvin and Claudia (Adkins) Locke.

He was retired from the soft drink business.

He married Effie D. Davis on Aug. 7, 1932, in Madill.

Mr. Locke was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He grew up in Madill and moved to Shawnee on Feb. 1, 1937.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on Nov. 7, 1993; one daughter; two sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include two sons, William Locke, Shawnee, and O.L. Locke, Shawnee; four grandchildren, Lori Romberg, Shauna Clark, Cal Locke and Stephanie Cain, one great-grandson, Trace Clark; and one great-great-grandchild, Danielle Romberg.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Clewell and the Rev. Trinnette Smith officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

The family has designated the American Cancer Society, 4323 NW 63rd St., Suite 110, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73116-1513 or the Heart Disease Research Foundation, 50 Court St., 306A, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11201-4801 as appropriate for memorials.

Robert Burns Poteet

Former Wanette resident Robert Burns Poteet of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Monday in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was 86.

He was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Wanette the son of William and Mattie Lee (Williams) Poteet.

He was reared in Wanette. He lived in Fort Worth, Texas, until his 1985 retirement, when he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas.

On Oct. 24, 1938, he married Murlee Ray in Shawnee. He worked for American Cyanamid Co. in Fort Worth for 36 years.

Survivors include wife, Murlee (Ray) Poteet of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Jimmie Poteet of Wichita Falls, Texas; grandchildren, Robert and Kara Poteet of Wichita Falls, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Vandaveer of Tulsa and Velma and Pleas Smith of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Wanette, with the Rev. Craig Brandt officiating. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Robert K. Gregson

Robert K. Gregson of Asher died Sunday in Asher. He was 68.

He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Trousdale the son of Roy Ervin Gregson Sr. and Georgia (Law) Gregson. He attended Trousdale schools and was reared on a farm near Trousdale.

He made his home around Trousdale most of his life. He raised cattle and retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1982. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the World Wide Church of God and the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Gregson; and his grandparents who raised him, George and Cora Gregson.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Gregson of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Charlie Garretson of Tribbey; Glenda and Richard Schwartz of Calgary, Canada; Kathy Gregson of Midwest City; one brother and sister-in-law, J.R. and June Gregson of Tulsa; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mia Guthrie of Portland, Ore., and Norma Jean and Wyman Catledge of Talihina; two stepsons, Jeff Hudgins of Harrah and J.C. Parker of Choctaw; four grandchildren and their spouses, Skylar Gregson of Edmond, Matthew Gregson of Asher, Mandy and Jason Bise of Lexington, and Joe Garrettson of Tribbey; aunt, Eleanor Fincher of Phoenix, Ariz.; uncle, Glen Gregson of Oxnard, Calif.; and a number of relatives and special friends.

Graveside services were 4:30 p.m. Monday at Wanette Cemetery with Ken Vandever officiating. Services were under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Rachel Cress

Rachel Cress, 85, Earlsboro, died Sunday at a local hospital.

She was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Braggs, Okla., to Joseph McClain and Eliza (Aynes) McClain.

She grew up and attended school in Braggs and Muskogee and grew up around the Greenleaf Lake and Muskogee area.

She worked for Ball Brothers Glass Co. for about 28 years in quality control. She married Paul Cress in Sapulpa in 1958.

Mrs. Cress was a member of the Shawnee VFW Ladies Auxiliary and lived in the Earlsboro area for about 20 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Wilma Simpson; several brothers and sisters; and one son-in-law, Kenneth Blackwell.

Surviving are her husband, Paul Cress of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rose Marie Blackwell of Shawnee and Delores Jean and James Gibson of Benton City, Wash.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Peggy Fleming of Earlsboro and Leon and Mary Ann Fleming of Kennewick, Wash.; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and one sister; Martha Snyder of Arizona.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Okmulgee Cemetery. A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Addie M. Weaver McFarland

Addie M. Weaver McFarland of Shawnee died Monday at an Ardmore hospital. She was 81.

She was born March 12, 1919, in Crawford County, Ark., the daughter of Melton and Alice (Riblin) Young.

She was reared and educated in Seminole County. She worked in the shipyards during World War II and had worked as a chef and owner/operator of the Harvest House Restaurant in Seminole.

She married Harry Herman Weaver on Nov. 27, 1935. He preceded her in death Dec. 24, 1975. She married A.G. McFarland Sept. 7, 1979, in Ada. He also preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1994.

She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son, Harry Weaver Jr.; three brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Ronnie Weaver, Andrew, Texas, Louie Weaver, Davis, Larry Weaver, Sulphur, and Gary Weaver, Ada; sister, Dollie French, Seminole; brother, Troy V. Young, Seminole.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Home. The casket will not be opened at the church.

Robert Burns Poteet

Former Shawnee resident Robert Burns Poteet of Wichita Falls, Texas, died Monday in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was 86.
