Roberta Whitney Farris

Roberta Whitney Farris, 63, of Norman, Oklahoma died April
18, 2003 in Norman. Mrs. Farris was born May 13, 1939 in Houma,
Louisiana to Hayes and Judith Baddeaux Whitney. She grew up in
Houma and graduated from Terrebonne High School. Afterward, she
graduated from business school in New Orleans, Louisiana. Roberta
married Billy Farris on March 2, 1958 in Houma, Louisiana. She
moved to Norman in 1961 from Houma. She was Executive
Administer for Barbour and Short Company for thirty four years.
Roberta was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph
Women’s Club, St. Monica Guild and was on the Religious Education
Board. Her hobbies included crocheting, genealogy and playing cards.
Mrs. Farris was preceded in death by her parents and one son,
David. She is survived by her husband, Billy, of the home; three sons,
Randy Farris and wife, Naomi, of Atoka, OK, Brian Farris and wife,
Debbie, of Wichita, KS and Douglas Farris and wife, Kim, of Norman,
OK; four daughters, Deanna Ruch and husband, Harry, of Norman,
OK, Rhonda Grizzle and husband, Tim of Norman, OK, Christa
Thompson, of Oklahoma City, OK and Dawn Riff and husband, Chet, of Edmond, OK; one brother, Milton “Bud” Whitney; four sisters,
Judith W. Guidoz, Rose W. Long, Anne W. Guenoit and Anita W.
Kelpsch; two half brothers; nine half sisters; twenty one grandchildren,
Jesse, Michelle, Joshua, Justin, Michael, Matthew, Tiffany, Jacob,
Stephaine, Randa, Trace, Zachary, Lindsay, Joe, Carlton , Jasmine,
Katelyn, Taylor, Emily, Christopher & Daniel and one great-grandchild,
Tristan.

Grace Marion Haile
Grace Marion Haile, 82, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Friday,
April 11, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma.. Arrangements are under the
direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma.
Grace was born August 27, 1920 in Great Neck, New York,
to William and Catherine Ellard Roberts. She graduated from Great
Neck High School in Long Island, NY. Grace married Frank Barnes
Haile on July 25, 1942 in Great Neck, NY, Grace was preceded in
death by her husband, parents and daughter-in-law. Survivors include
her two sons, Donald Haile of Norman, OK and Kenneth Haile of
Hallpark, OK, 5 grandchildren, Sandy Esch of Bethany, OK, Michael
Haile, Carol Haile, Elizabeth Haile and Lauren Haile all of Norman,
OK and 4 great-grandchildren, Amierra Haile, Keweysha Haile,
Lindsey Haile all of Norman, OK and Branden Esch of Bethany, OK.

William (Bill) Henderson Jr.
William (Bill) Henderson Jr., 66, of Norman, Oklahoma, died
Thursday,April10, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Bill was born March
3, 1937 in Fort Worth, Texas, to William Henderson Sr. and Chloe
Jordan Henderson. He attended high school in the Dallas/Fort Worth
area and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. He
moved to Norman from Fort Worth, Texas in the early seventies. Bill
married Linda Jo Betts on January 28, 1993 in Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma. He was a member of H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) and
the Oklahoma #1 Hog Chapter. He also belonged to the Moose
Lodge. Bill loved riding his Harley motorcycle, watching and playing
golf.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include
his wife, Linda Jo of the home; son, Sahib Quiteman Henderson of
Duncan, OK; stepson, Lowell Bates of Liberal, MO.; two daughters,
Antoinette Marie Bell of Katy, TX and Teshi Nicole Henderson of
Washington, DC.; two stepdaughters, Sonya Bates of Oklahoma City,
OK and Marci Unruh of Guthrie, OK; brother, Bob Henderson of
Houston, TX; his stepmother, Verna Henderson of Fort Worth Texas;
two stepsisters, Robyn and Ruth-Lupe of Fort Worth, TX;
stepbrother, Noah Henderson of Fort Worth, TX; and ten
grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to scholarship fund in
Bill’s name, Bill Henderson Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Moore-
Norman Technology Center at 4701 12th Ave. N.W., Norman, OK

Stephen Bryan Hetherington
Stephen Bryan Hetherington, 54, of Norman, Oklahoma,
died Sunday, April 20, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Mr.
Hetherington was born June 27, 1948 in Wichita, Kansas, to
Homer Gordon and Joyce Stacy (McCoy) Hetherington Valliere.
He graduated from Dickson High School in Ardmore,
Oklahoma in 1967 and attended Oklahoma State University and
the Moore Norman VoTech Center, receiving a degree as a
machinist. Mr. Hetherington was a veteran of the U.S. Navy
serving during the Vietnam War from 1968 until 1972. He
loved astronomy and motorcycles.
Mr. Hetherington was preceded in death by his father,
Homer in 1996 and his brother, James Hetherington in 1991.
Survivors include his mother, Joyce and stepfather, Oliver D.
Valliere of Norman, OK; three sisters, Rita Gillham and
husband, Phillip of Quinton, OK, Judy Jackson and husband,
Mike of Tuttle, OK and Teresa Pastrano and husband, Ruben of
Tempe, AZ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the favorite
charity of your choice.

Ruth Powell
Ruth Powell, 89, of Norman, Oklahoma died April 19, 2003 at the Noble Health Care Center in Noble. A Private Memorial Service for family will be held at the home with Reverend David Spain of the First Christian Church of Norman officiating.
Mrs. Powell was born July 14, 1913, in Ladonia, Texas, the third of four children born to C. C. (Charles Columbus) and Emma Miller Roberts.
Her early childhood was spent in Paris, Texas, and her school years
in Corsicana, Texas. She received two masters degrees, first in
English from Baylor University and later in Piano from Texas
Women’s University in Denton. She married William Lytle Powell
in Marietta, OK on April 20, 1933, and spent four years in London,
England, while her husband was obtaining his performance and
teaching degrees in Piano at the renowned Tobias Matthay Pianoforte
School. Their oldest child, Bill was born while they were in London.
Mrs. Powell moved to Norman in 1940 with her family when
Mr. Powell began teaching at the University of Oklahoma as a
Professor of Piano. Mrs. Powell taught piano in her home for over
forty years. In addition to family and music, she loved gardening in
her beautiful yard. After her husband’s death in 1998, Mrs. Powell
remained in her home with her friend and caregiver, Azalia Burrough,
moving in late 2002 to Noble Health Care Center. She was a member
of the First Christian Church in Norman for the past sixty years.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her husband, older
brother, Harral, and older sister, Minnie Maurice Ruble. She is
survived by one son, Bill Powell and wife, Johnny, of Harlingen,
Texas; two daughters, Jean Powell of Norman, Oklahoma and Joan
Jones and husband, Fred, of The Woodlands, Texas; younger sister,
Nell Davis of San Diego, California; seven grandchildren, Chris,
Harriet, Bill, Michael, Dave, Jennifer and Susan; eleven great-grandchildren,
Melissa, Eric, Elizabeth, Billy, Jesse, Veronica, Heather, Katie, Lauren, Kevin and Ryan and one great-great-grandchild,
Logan.
Memorial Contributions can be made to the University of
Oklahoma Foundation in honor of the Ruth and Lytle Powell
scholarship fund, or the First Christian Church of Norman. As a final
request by Mrs. Powell, a donation in the amount of $10,000 will be
made to each.

Cecil Rhodes
Cecil Rhodes, 82, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, April
29, 2003 in Norman, Oklahoma. Mr. Rhodes was born November
20, 1920 in Tuttle, Oklahoma, to Robert Ewing and Annie Jewel
McCurdy Rhodes. He grew up in Tuttle-Newcastle area and
graduated from Newcastle High School and attended the University
of Oklahoma. He married Mary Stanmire. Mr. Rhodes was a
veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy Air Corp. He
moved to Norman from Oklahoma City in 1948. He owned and
operated Rhodes Grain Company for over fifty-five years and was a
pioneer in the modernization of the grain business in Oklahoma. Mr.
Rhodes was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norman.
Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; two daughters, Sherry
McDonald and husband, Richard of Norman, OK and Mary Kathleen
Rhodes and husband, Brad Quillen of Oklahoma City, OK; and three
grandchildren, David A. McDonald and wife, Julianna of Oklahoma
City, OK, John McDonald and wife, Sandra of Moore, OK and Seth
McDonald and wife, Kara of Norman, OK.
