Granville Mays

Granville Mays, 79, Prague, died Thursday in Prague.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Prague.

Further arrangements will follow with Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Bertha Gatzke

Bertha Gatzke died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. She was 77.

She was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Corn. She was the daughter of John Aaron and Elisabeth (Defehr) Neufeld.

She had been a resident of Seminole County near Earlsboro since January 1948. She was a homemaker and member of the Fairview Baptist Church for more than 45 years.

She married Pete Gatzke May 1, 1947 at Corn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include her husband, Pete Gatzke, Prague; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jakki Gatzke, Prague; two grandsons, Michal and wife Rebekah Gatzke, Russell Gatzke; two great grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Manual Flaming, Fairview; Matilda Sawatazky, Clinton; Minnie Miller, Weatherford; Katie Neufeld, Corn.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church, Shawnee, with Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Leona M. Whitnah

Leona M. Whitnah of Harrah died Thursday. She was 73.

She was born to Fred and Ella (Stephens) Clark Jan. 29, 1927, in Shattuck.

Survivors include her husband, Bill of the home; one son, Donald and wife Carlyin of McLoud; one daughter, Billetta Evans of Midwest City; one uncle, Chester Clark of Texas; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Newalla with burial at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah. Arrangements are directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Barbara Danyeur-Hyde

Barbara Danyeur-Hyde of Meeker died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 77.

She was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Oklahoma City. She was the daughter of David and Elizabeth Coots.

She attended school in Shawnee. She retired from Tinker Air Force Base where she was a secretary. After retirement she worked for several years for the Salvation Army in Shawnee.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Meeker. She lived in Shawnee most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Carl Steele, Meeker; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Linda Danyeur, Lake City, Colo.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Sue Patterson, Shawnee; Margaret Jacobs, Bartlesville.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Hope Cemetery, Meeker, with the Rev. Roy Danyeur officiating. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel, Shawnee.

Robert Granville Mays

Robert Granville Mays, former Oklahoma Baptist University faculty member and librarian and Shawnee elementary teacher, died Thursday in Prague. He was 79.

Mays was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Prague, the son of Jess S. and Callie (Harris) Mays. He graduated from Prague High School in 1939 as the valedictorian.

He worked for the Prague Record and then served in the Army Air Corps in North Africa and Italy during World War II. Following the war, he attended OBU, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in English.

He then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he earned the bachelor of arts degree in library science and the master of arts degree in English. Mays began working at OBU in 1951 as an English teacher and reference librarian.

He was named librarian in 1963 and held that post until 1972, when he resigned to begin a career as an elementary teacher.

He taught in Prague and in Shawnee at Will Rogers, Acme and Washington Schools.

He married Nelda Loafman in Prague on May 28, 1971. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Omicron Delta Kappa.

0n 1998, he was inducted into the OBU Athletic Hall of Fame, recognition for serving for 25 years as official scorekeeper and statistician for the OBU Bison basketball team. Mays had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Prague since he was a teen-ager.

He was a Sunday school teacher for 48 years, and he served as a deacon and song leader.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chester Mays and three sisters, Leila Mays Clarence, Ruth Mays and Wanda Mays.

Survivors include his wife, Nelda, of the home; brother and sister-in-law, James Franklin and Joyce Mays, Hartsboro, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Berniece Callan, Bartlesville, Eunice DeWeber, Edmond, and Jackie Loafman, Livingston, Texas; nephews, Michael and Richard Mays and niece, Kathy Staerk.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Prague with Tim Emmons and Dr. J.P. Dane, officiating. Burial will be in Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oklahoma Baptist University or the First Baptist Church of Prague.

Burton S. Canham

Burton S. Canham of Edmond, died Wednesday. He was 76.

Born Nov. 9, 1923, in Washington, D.C., to Goldie Sweet and Walter G. Canham, Sr. He was raised and lived in the Virginia-Maryland area until 1968. He served his country in World War II and married Betty Sasher in 1948.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Edmond, VFW Post 4938, and the American Legion. He retired from Wilson Foods in 1984, devoting himself to volunteer work and travel.

He is preceded in death by parents and infant son, John Burton.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; sons Bruce, Barry, Brad, Brian and Ben Canham and daughter (Beth) Mardie Bryant, their spouses and 14 grandchildren.

Also brothers Walt, Dick and Bob, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Edmond.

Eddie Lee Brendle

Eddie Lee Brendle of Shawnee died Friday in Tulsa. He was 59.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Shawnee Seventh Day Adventist, 4300 N. Center, Shawnee with Pastor Jerry States officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Other information is pending.

Cordelia J. Turman

Cordelia J. "Dee" Turman, 64, Shawnee, died Friday in Shawnee.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Further arrangements are pending.

Cody Alan Oldham

Cody Alan Oldham, 11. Shawnee, died Sunday in Oklahoma City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Stillwell of Fairview Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Other information is pending.
