Violet Irene Tarpey

Violet Irene Tarpey died Thursday at Shawnee Care Center. She was 92.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at First Christian Church of Stillwater with Dr. Bill Inglish officiating. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, under the direction of Strode Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Payne County 4-H Tarpey Hall of Fame, OSU Extension office.

Suzanne Flowers

Shawnee resident Suzanne Flowers died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 54.

She was born June 17, 1946, in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Ned Romero and Thelma (Morgan) Romero. She was a graduate of New Iberia (La.) High School.

She married Ronald Dean Flowers Aug. 5, 1967, at Rock Creek Baptist Church and had lived in Shawnee for more than 30 years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she was active in many ministries.

Mrs. Flowers had owned The Cake Walk and was a real estate agent with Century 21 Bob Crothers Realty.

Surviving are her husband, Dean Flowers, of the home; her son, Steve Flowers, and two grandchildren, Lauren Flowers and Colton Flowers, Stillwater; her daughter, Pam Flowers, Norman; one brother, Mike Romero, Granger, Ind.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Johnny and Marie Flowers, Meeker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Elaine Flowers, Meeker; J.D. and Linda Flowers, Tulsa, one niece and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

The family will receive visitors from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.

Ernest Olen Norton

Ernest Olen Norton died Saturday in Bedford, Texas after a lengthy illness. He was 77.

The former Shawnee resident was born in Shamrock, Okla., on June 20, 1923, to E.E. Norton and Pearl (Heasley) Norton. He married Lois Hensley in 1960.

He served in the Army Air Force during World War II in India. After the war, he worked for General Dynamics (later named Lockheed Martin) in Fort Worth as an aircraft inspector. He was a member of the Brown Trail Church of Christ in Bedford, Texas.

Norton was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Raymond Norton, and sister, Polly Norton Brinlee.

Survivors include his sons, Mark Norton and Daryl Norton, both of Bedford, Texas, daughter Debra Diane Hinson of Whiteville, N.C., and grandsons, Michael and Brian Hinson of Whiteville, N.C., two brothers and sisters-in-law, Loyd and Viva Norton and Gene and Dorothy Norton of Shawnee, three sisters, Goldie Chatham of Burbank, Calif., Mildred Smith of Glendale, Calif., and Lola Mullinax of Shawnee, sister-in-law Betsey Norton of Grafton, Mass., and several nieces and nephews, including two of Shawnee, Randy Mullinax and Tim Norton.

Visitation was held Tuesday. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bluebonnet Hill Chapel in Colleyville, Texas. Burial will be in the Bluebonnet Hill Memorial Park under the direction of Bluebonnet Hill Memorial Chapel.

Donald Leo Gregg

Donald Leo Gregg died Monday at the age of 63.

He was born on April 29, 1937, in Woodruff, W.Va., to Leo and Stella (Strait) Gregg.

He married Donna M. McCracken Dec. 10, 1955, in Cameron, W.Va. They have lived in Chandler since 1972. He worked for Acker Industries of Oklahoma City as vice president of sales. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Chandler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin, three sisters and one grandchild.

Survivors include his wife of Chandler; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Janet Gregg of Chandler, Terry and Debbie Gregg of Muskogee and Todd Gregg of Edmond, one daughter, Robin Lynn Miller of Lawton; four sisters, Eleanor Austin of Glendale, W.Va., Helen Holcomb of Wheeling, W.Va., Madolyn Lohr of Glendale, Ariz., and Shirley Long of Moundsville, W.Va., nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of Christ in Chandler. Jeremi Beller will officiate under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler. Burial will be in the Oak Park Cemetery of Chandler.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Hattie Mae (Keys) Harper

Hattie Mae (Keys) Harper died Monday in a Seminole hospital. She was 91.

She was born on May 7, 1909, to John Adams and Minnie Bell (Roach) Keys. She married John William "Grady" Harper of June 2, 1925, and worked as a homemaker.

Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her husband, infant twin daughters, Lorene and Renzi Bell Harper, daughter Marie Morlan, her parents, five brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Harper of Richmond, Texas, Lonnie Harper of Kansas City, Mo., and Johnnie Harper of Victoria, Texas, one daughter, Leora Powell of Victoria, Texas, 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Pastor J. Clifton Briscoe will officiate under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole. Burial will be in the Sand Creek Cemetery in Cromwell.

Jacqueline Washburn

Jacqueline "Jackie" Washburn, 76, Shawnee, died Monday.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of God Chapel in Shawnee. Carol Jantz and Phillip Washburn will officiate.

Burial will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery. Further information is pending with Cooper Funeral Home.

Johnnie Lee West

Seminole resident Johnnie Lee West died Monday at Seminole Medical Center. He was 86.

West was born Feb. 9, 1914, at Romulus to Luther and Elizabeth (Davis) West. He married Ada Belle Mills Jan. 31, 1939, at Little. She preceded him in death in August of 1999.

He was raised in the Seminole area and attended Mountain View Schools and Pauls Valley Schools. He had lived in Cushing and Pauls Valley before returning to Seminole in 1955. He and was a pipeliner with Shell Pipeline Co. and retired in 1976 after 35 years.

He was a member of Shell Retirees Club, Boy Scouts and First Christian Church in Seminole, and coached Little League baseball.

Survivors include his son, Gary West, Dallas, Texas; daughter, Darlene Rogers, Dallas; two sisters, Sue Jackson, Seminole; Love Tucker, Bakersfield, Calif.; sister-in-law, Edna Parrish, Seminole; three brothers-in-law, Bob Mills, Seminole; W.C. Mills, San Angelo, Texas; Claude Mills, Midland, Texas; five grandchildren, Andrea, Devon and Jeff West, Darcy and Danny Lewis; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters and his parents.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Dr. James Sill and the Rev. Dan Reihing officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery.

Dan Jenkins

Tecumseh resident Dan Jenkins died Monday in Shawnee. He was 87.

Jenkins was born Feb. 26, 1913, in Porter, Okla., to James Henry and Laura Anna (McCurdy) Jenkins. He grew up in Porter and Tahlequah and had lived in Pottawatomie County 29 years, the past 13 in Tecumseh.

On Jan. 30, 1935, he married Emma Baker in Tahlequah. She preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2000.

He worked for Oklahoma Baptist University in groundskeeping until his retirement in 1982. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his grandson, Michael Jenkins, of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Les Monroe, Allen, Nev.; Jerry and Doyce Jenkins, Tecumseh; George and Vernie Jenkins, Rio Linda, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Francis Wilson, Shawnee; Darlene and Glen Rains, Greely Hill, Calif.; eight grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and eight brothers.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Victor Cope officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.
