Jacqueline Washburn

Jacqueline "Jackie" Washburn of Shawnee died Monday in Shawnee. She was 76.

She was born Aug. 3, 1924. She was the daughter of Jack and Lena (McGinnis) Washburn.

She attended school in Shawnee. She was a lifelong resident of Pottawatomie County.

She worked as a waitress and cook at various restaurants and also worked as a caregiver at local nursing homes. She was a member of the Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Glen Washburn and one sister, Opal Payne.

Survivors include two brothers and one sister-in-law, Bill Washburn of Sulphur; Bob and Vera Washburn of Shawnee; one sister, Genevieve "Vee" O'Dell of Lancaster, Calif., and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Church of God Chapel, Shawnee with Carol Jantz and Phillip Washburn officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Orville James Clark

Orville James "Sonny" Clark, Norman died Wednesday at a Norman nursing home. He was 69.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1930, to Ellis Otto and Lucille (Taylor) Clark. He was a member of the Congregational Methodist Church.

Clark was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Wayne Clark.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Glenda Clark of Seminole, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma Juanelle "Sissy" and Jack Bailey of Seminole, Juanita and Garth Petty of Tulsa, Rose and Eldon Shepherd of Seminole and Carolyn and Curtis Gilmore of Locust Grove.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dewayne Jackson will officiate, with burial in the Little Cemetery.

Ray C. Goad

Ray C. Goad, Fairfax, OK died Tuesday in a Fairfax hospital at the age of 89.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1911, to Charles and Clara (Farrell) Goad. He attended St. Mary's Academy in Ponca City and St. Edwards College in Austin, Texas.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 4, 1940, and was a staff sergeant. He was stationed in the East Indies, New Guinea, Papua and Bismark Archipelago. Goad received the Good Conduct Ribbon, American Defense Ribbon Citation GO No. 21, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with four Battle Stars.

After being honorably discharged on Sept. 21, 1945, he became a monk with St. Gregory's Monastery and took the name Gregory. He remained there for 42 years.

On Feb. 17, 1989, he returned to Fairfax; and, on Nov. 2, 1989, he married Vivian L. Talbert.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Fairfax and a member of the Osage Tribe.

Survivors include his wife of the home in Fairfax, two stepsons, Jahon Riley of Fairfax and Ken Riley of Hot Springs, Ark., one brother, Charlie Goad of Burbank, one sister, Ethel Myatt of Phoenix, Ariz., three stepgrandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Ken Lewis presiding. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Ken Lewis as celebrant and the retired Rev. Phillip Berning, O.S.B., former Abbott of St. Gregory Abbey, con-celebrant.

Burial, with military honors by Little Standing Buffalo Post No. 38 of White Eagle, Okla., will follow in Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 333 S. 8th St., Fairfax OK 74637.

Neta Ellen (Medlock) Bright

Neta Ellen (Medlock) Bright died Thursday in Tulsa at the age of 95.

She was born on March 4, 1905, to Henry Medlock and Anna (Bowles) Medlock. She married Ernest Wilson Bright in her hometown of Mulberry, Ark.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Okemah and lived in Okfuskee County for 37 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Raymond Bright, four sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest Eugene Bright and wife Hattie of Dibble and Richard W. Bright of Blanchard, two daughters, Velta Hair and husband Charles of Okemah and Mary Rayburn and husband Ronnie of Grove, daughter-in-law Wanda Bright of Blandchard, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel at Okemah. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Minnie Kilby

Tecumseh resident Minnie Kilby died Sunday at a local nursing home. She was 90.

Mrs. Kilby was born March 25, 1910, in Macomb to William Horatio and Ida Lucinda Zackry Bandy. She married James Franklin Kilby.

Survivors include her son, Jim Kilby, Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, LaDonna Drake, Kingwood, Texas, Lou Kolozs, Orlando, Fla., Kathleen Garcia and Donal Dowell, both of California; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Burle Donal Dowell.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Assembly of God Church, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Ola Statzer

Former Wanette resident Ola Statzer of Bartlesville died Saturday in Bartlesville. She was 90.

She was born Nov. 29, 1909, in Wanette, the daughter of Marlin and Lula (DeJarnette) Pinson.

On May 15, 1927, in Wanette, she married Henry Statzer who preceded her in death in December 1969.

She was reared in Wanette, where she operated a furniture store, laundry and cafe. She lived on the farm until moving into town in 1942. She later lived in California and Shawnee.

In 1970, she moved to Bartlesville where she worked as a baker at the Ramada Inn until her 1990 retirement.

Survivors include three daughters, Alpha Johnson of Bartlesville, Retha Aycock of Senora, Calif., and Oleta Renick of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Marion Pinson of Shawnee and Doyale Pinson of Lone Grove; one sister, Doris Franklin of Asher; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wanette First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Visitation will be held 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cooper Chapel in Wanette and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday.

Robert Etheridge Coats

Robert Etheridge Coats of Shawnee died Friday at a local nursing home. He was 85.

He was born March 21, 1915, in Tupelo, Okla., to Jeremiah and Elizabeth Coats. He lived in Shawnee for the last 56 years.

Coats married his wife, Emmaloyd, on Oct. 28, 1934.

He was a member of Northwest Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Coats was retired from 15 years of employment at Troxell's Auto Parts in Shawnee.

Preceding him in death were his youngest son, Roy Lee Coats on Oct. 5, 1970; his wife, Emmaloyd, on Jan. 4, 1991; and son-in-law Jack Greer on Feb. 7, 1998.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Reta Coats of Tecumseh, Ronnie G. and Ramona Coats of Bethany and Lester G. and Kay Coats of Angelton, Texas; a daughter, Virginia Greer of Shawnee; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren ; and four great-great grandchildren.

Services were Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ed Fox officiating. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Nancy Fern Thorpe

Nancy Fern Thorpe of Shamrock died Friday in Oklahoma City. She was 56.

Mrs. Thorpe was born April 20, 1944, in Sapulpa to Ransom and Dorothy Ann (Anderson) Moss. She attended Sapulpa School.

On Sept. 15, 1986, she married Marvin Dale Thorpe in Gainesville, Texas.

Mrs. Thorpe was a retired, self-employed beautician and had lived in Cushing before moving to Shamrock in 1994.

She attended the Oilton Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Thorpe of the home; four daughters, Wendy Anglim, Paden, Cindy Mize, Iowa City, Iowa, Sara Lea, Cushing, and Stephanie Ryker, Drumright; three sons, Billy Taylor, Bristow, and Wendell and Steve Taylor, both of Cushing; two stepchildren; five brothers; five sisters; 28 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Euchee Valley Cemetery, under the direction of Hutchins-Maples Funeral Home, Bristow, with the Rev. James Lame officiating.
