Vernon Seaton

Vernon Seaton died Sunday at his home near Prague. He was 76.

Seaton was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Hot Springs, Ark., to Olgar and Mary (Adams) Seaton. He had lived in the Prague area since the age of 4.

He married Augusta Shivers on Jan. 27, 1943. He worked as a firefighter in Shawnee during the 1950s, then moved south of Prague, where he farmed and raised cattle until his retirement. He also drove the senior citizen's van.

Survivors include his wife, Augusta Seaton, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Pete Friend, Prague; three granddaughters, Kristi and her husband, Randy Strickland, Dardanelle, Ark.; Katrina and her husband, Roberto Massey, Wewoka; and Kelly Friend, Prague; sister, Jewel Love, Shawnee; five great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Prague, with Wade T. Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in Little Cemetery.

Laura Lorraine Stokes Henry

Laura Lorraine Stokes Henry died Friday in Dallas, Texas. She was 44.

Mrs. Henry was born March 2, 1956, in Shawnee to Earl Rick and Betty Stokes. She attended Woodrow Wilson School in Shawnee and Woodrow Wilson School in Tulsa and graduated from Hillcrest High School, Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Brookhaven with an associate's degree in business/accounting. She had attended North Texas University in Denton, Texas, where she was working on a degree in environmental sciences.

She had worked at Frito-Lay Headquarters in Dallas, Texas, for 17 years.

She married Richard A. Henry and was a member of Covenant Church of Carrollton, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Richard A. Henry, of the home; sister, Debbi Stokes; mother and stepfather, Betty and Chuck Kirkland; father, Earl Rick Stokes; and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Frank and Florence Mattocks; grandparents, Jim and Edna O'Neal and Honor and Addie Stokes; sister, Betty Christine; and several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Phil Thompson officiating.

Angeline Henrietta Ellsworth

Angeline "Angie" Henrietta Ellsworth died Sunday. She was 84.

Mrs. Ellsworth was born Feb. 14, 1916, in McLoud to Helen Smith Durling and Claude Durling.

She graduated from McLoud School in 1933 as valedictorian. In 1936, she married C.R. Ellsworth.

She lived in Lawton much of her life and was a piano teacher. She was a member and officer of the Lawton Music Club and the Oklahoma National Music Teachers Association. She was a member, officer and judge of the National Guild of Piano Teachers.

Survivors include her husband, C.R. Ellsworth, of the home; daughter, Helen Lynne; grandson, Paul, and his family, Jana, Tracy and Kelly; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at John M. Ireland Chapel, Moore. Burial will follow in McLoud Cemetery.

Tommy Carlson

Monroe resident Tommy "We-Gach-Tus-Em" Carlson died Saturday in Tulsa. He was 6.

A wake will be held this evening at the Little Charley residence in Little Axe. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the Little Charley family Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Diane Smith

Diane Smith died Wednesday in Shawnee. She was 42.

She was born on March 17, 1958, to Dale and Carrol (Maxwell) Smith.

She attended Harjo, Tribbey and Prague schools and graduated from Verden High School in 1976. She also graduated from Murray State College. She was currently attending Southern Nazarene University.

She worked in the Pottawatomie County Health Department, at the Resthaven Memorial Park, at Barton Valve, Austin Athletic and as a home interior consultant in Chickasha.

She also was a legal consultant for attorney Gregory Jackson.

She was a member of the Highland Church of Christ and the Democratic Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by Raymond C. and Ruby L. Maxwell and Morris and Lizzie Smith, her grandparents; L.W. Gallant, her stepgrandfather and Pat and Fred Keas, Vearl Smith, Veachel Smith, Wanda Smith and Eula Smith, her aunts and uncles.

Survivors include two sons, Jarod and Jason Smith, both of the home; her parents, Rep. Dale and Carroll Smith of Saint Louis; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mickey and Cheri Smith of Earlsboro and David and Kim Smith of Saint Louis; one sister, Melanie Smith of Shawnee; four nieces; one nephew; and a host of aunts and uncles.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Highland Church of Christ. Bob Anderson and Bill Roberts will officiate under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park.

A trust fund for her sons has been established at the First United Bank of Tecumseh. Contributions may be made at 301 N. Broadway, Tecumseh, or mailed to P.O. Box 190, Tecumseh, 74873.

Raymond J. Block

Raymond J. Block died Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 70.

He was born on Feb. 17, 1930, to Carl F. and Mary M. (Skropa) Block. He attended St. Benedict Catholic School and was a retired Shawnee police officer.

He married Billie Killingsworth in January 1951. He joined the Shawnee Police Department in 1952 and retired as assistant chief of police.

He was with the Shawnee Urban Renewal Authority and Community Development, and retired from Public Works Director in 1985.

He was stationed with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif., from 1948-1950.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Leo Block, his brother.

Survivors include his wife of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Terry Harmon of Oklahoma City; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Block of Tecumseh and Tommy and Janet Block of Bethel; one sister, Louise Blythe of Oklahoma City; grandsons and their spouses, Mike and April Harmon of Oklahoma City, David and Lisa Harmon of Oklahoma City, Jason and Anne Block of Broken Arrow, John Block of Tecumseh, Steven Block of Edmond, Greg Block of Edmond and Tyler Block of Bethel; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon on Monday at the St. Benedict Catholic Church. The Rev. Maurus Jeab, O.S.B., will officiate under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park. The family has designated St. Benedict Catholic Church for memorials.

Linda Jean Stiles

Linda Jean Stiles of Pink died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 52.

She was born Dec. 10, 1947, in Oklahoma City to John and Joanna Hazlewood. She attended Spencer Schools and was a department manager at Wal-Mart, where she worked many years.

She married Jack Stiles in September 1982 at the Base Chapel on Tinker Air Force Base.

Surviving are her husband, Jack Stiles of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Tiffany and Ray Patterson of Marlow; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Amy Smoot of Norman; two grandchildren, Kyle Hollinsworth of Marlow and Hannah Smoot of Norman; two sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Gondos of Pink and Nancy and Steven Wake of Yukon.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Thelma Sandefure Davis Lawhon

Thelma (Nelson) Sandefure Davis Lawhon of Shawnee died Friday at a local nursing home. She was 84.

She was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Shawnee to John Carr and Earon Attie (Daisy) Nelson. She attended Shawnee High School and worked at First National Bank of Oklahoma City in the bonds department.

She was married to Lou B. Sandefure and Forrest L. Davis, both of whom preceded her in death. She then married Steven B. Lawhon.

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Siloam Springs, Ark.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Wanda Lou and Dale E. Ragland Sr. and Barbara Kay Rose; five grandchildren, Dale E. Ragland Jr., Joe Clint Ragland, Jon Marsh Ragland, Hank Clayton Rose and Rick Robert Rose; nine great-grandchildren, Jessica Elizabeth Ragland, Chelse Rae Ragland, Chance Tyler Ragland, Walker Clint Ragland, Lindsay Rose Ragland, Russell Cooper Bowman, Jonathan Story Ragland, Clay Rose and Summer Anne Rose; five brothers, Bob, Clarence, Kay, Bruce and John Nelson.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Birdwell officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Iva Mae Sublett

Iva Mae Sublett of Boise, Idaho, died Saturday at a Boise hospital She was 88.

She was born Nov. 20, 1911, in Stratford to Jonas Robert Menser and Katie Cora (Hanners) Menser.

She lived in Lompoc, Santa Maria and Fresno, Calif., as well as Boise, Idaho.

Surviving are a daughter, Joyce Saunders of Los Altos, Calif.; grandsons, Larry Krum of Laramie, Wyo.; and Garry Krum of Mountain View, Calif.; granddaughter Debra Krum of Boise, Idaho; three sisters, Ida Klander of Shawnee, Esther Eager of Duncan and Florence Harrison of North Platte, Neb.; and two brothers, Joseph Menser of La Mesa, Calif., and Melvin Menser of Bakersfield, Calif.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Barney Leon Shirey

Barney Leon Shirey of Tecumseh died Friday. He was 79.

Mr. Shirey was born Nov. 2, 1920, in the Brown community to Jim and Zora (Yarbrough) Shirey. He attended school at Bugscuffle and was a lifelong resident of Pottawatomie County and worked as a carpenter.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Hill-Huett Post No. 260. He played the fiddle.

Preceding him in death were his parents and eight brothers and sisters, Bill Shirey, Thurman Shirey, Mancy Shirey, Annie Black, Virgie Fulton, Jessie Branson, Bessie Coley and Robbie Blackwell.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Kurt C. and Connie Shirey and Barney and Carolyn Shirey, all of Tecumseh; sister Cara Bee McLaughlin of Tecumseh; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Marty and Taryn Shirey of Tecumseh, Tige and Holly Shirey of Shawnee, Heath and Angie Shirey of Fort Hood, Texas, Kyle Shirey, Greg Shirey, Brian Shirey, Stephanie Marrs and Jamie Shirey, all of Tecumseh; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Barney Shirey and Kurt Shirey officiating.

Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel.
