Philomene Kirk

Philomene Kirk of Wichita, Kan., died Aug. 18 in Pottawatomie County. She was 76.

Mrs. Kirk was born May 25, 1924, in Brooksville to Bobby and Ruby (Jeffries) Kirk. She was raised in Brooksville by her stepfather and mother, Grady and Ruby Cooks, and moved to Wichita, where she attended school.

She was a registered nurse and had worked in Washington, D.C., with the Veterans Administration. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She is survived by many relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lee Oliver of St. John Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery.

Ron Dale Heath

Ron Dale Heath died Wednesday in Norman. He was 48.

Services are pending with Hudson Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Jamie Renee (Pulley) Brown

Jamie Renee (Pulley) Brown died Tuesday in Depew. She was 32.

She was born Oct. 8, 1967, in Bristow to James and Velma Pulley. She had been a resident of Depew all her life.

Mrs. Brown was married to Kevin Brown. She was a child care worker.

Surviving are her husband, Kevin Brown of the home; father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. James Pulley of Depew; mother-in-law, Dianna Haley of Seminole, father-in-law, Harold Brown of Shawnee; two sons, Kevin Brown Jr. and Spenser Brown of the home; one brother and his wife, Jeff and Trisha Pulley; four sisters, Jeanette Hoover, Depew; Janice Miller, Depew; Gayla Cromwell of Depew; Marilyn Martin of Stratford, Mo.; sister-in-law, Tracy Brown of Shawnee; and many family members and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Doug Sampley officiating. Burial will follow in Bristow City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home, Bristow.

Casey Willis Hennigh

Casey Willis Hennigh of Tecumseh died Sunday in Shawnee. He was 41.

Hennigh was born Oct. 31, 1958, in Shawnee to Marvin and Barbara (Williams) Hennigh. He graduated from Maud High School in 1976 and worked in the oil field for several years.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Hennigh, Tecumseh; two sons, Coty Hennigh, McLoud, and Jeremy Hennigh; granddaughter, Kinsey Hennigh; sister, Joy (Hennigh) Foster; two brothers, Perry Hennigh and Troy Hennigh; two nephews, Jason Montgomery Foster and Daniel Foster; three nieces, Carmencia Hennigh, Misha Hennigh and Tabitha Hennigh; Coty's mother, Debbie Jo Scott, McLoud; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Hennigh, two grandfathers and one grandmother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Lavinia E. (Danner) Holt

Lavinia E. (Danner) Holt of Shawnee died Tuesday at a local nursing home. She was 89.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Grace Sypert Echols

Former Teacher of the Year Grace Sypert Echols died at the age of 87.

She was born Oct. 21, 1912, in Brooksville. She was the daughter of Frank and Mahala Sypert.

She graduated from Dunbar High School and earned her bachelor of science in early education, magna cum laude, in 1941 from Langston University. She received her master of education in 1954.

In 1934 she married Anthony Winfield Echols.

She was a Sunday school teacher, resource division member and deaconess at Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Echols taught school in Brooksville, Macomb, Shawnee and in the Alum Rock school district in San Jose, Calif.

She also served on the board of directors of the Frank Sypert African-American Community Services Agency. She aided and worked with the San Jose Campus Christian Ministry at San Jose State University.

Over the years, she held various offices in the Garden City Women's Club, including president and treasurer. She was a member of the Excelsior Federated Women's Club for more than 50 years, and received The San Jose PTA Service Award, the Teacher of the Year (Donald J. Meyer School) and the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America Award.

Survivors include daughters, Velma Hutton and Ruth Ashford; three grandsons, Vincent, Tony and Barry; one great-grandson, Anthony Michael Jr.; sister, Ruth Sypert Porter, San Jose, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Lucille Williams and Ruth McClain, Oklahoma City; Ruby Sypert, Vallejo; Kathryn Sypert, Shawnee; brother-in-law, Clarence Echols, Oklahoma City; friends, Laura Williams, Berkeley; Fay Wembleton, Los Angeles and Freddie Williams, Oklahoma City and nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Shawnee Community Center. Hewlett-Packard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Johnson

Irene Johnson of Harrah died Wednesday. She was 77.

She was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Denison, Texas, to James and Hazel (Nelson) Goggins.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Pam Johnson, Dale; James Johnson, Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Rick Benedix, Harrah; sister, Thelma Jenkins, Guthrie; three grandchildren, Jami Johnson, Kimberly Johnson and Laura Benedix; and several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Johnson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Memorials may be made to the Harrah United Methodist Church.

Willie Faye Turnbow

Willie Faye Turnbow of Sallisaw died Tuesday at Sallisaw. She was 70.

She was born Oct. 15, 1929, in Hazel to Sara Anne and Lewis Turner Wilson. Mrs. Turnbow was a homemaker and grew up in the Seminole County area.

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Ann Mefford, Baytown, Texas; three brothers, Pat Wilson and Gene Wilson, both of Seminole; Olen Wilson, Tecumseh; sister, Roseanne Graves, Asher; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home, Konawa, with the Rev. Richard Estorga officiating.

Hazel Daniel

Hazel Daniel, Oklahoma City, died Tuesday following a lengthy illness.

She was born in the Meeker area to Homer and Sophia Herrington.

She attended the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University and received her degree in education. Mrs. Daniel taught for many years in Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Daniel was an active member at St. John's United Methodist Church and president of her Sunday school class.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 61 years, C.P.; her mother and father and two sisters.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Clarence Stallard of Tuttle; Diane and Steve Welch of San Antonio, Texas, and Andrea and Van Porter of Dallas, Texas; eight granddaughters, many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker, under the direction of Midtown Funeral Directors and Cremation Services.

Stella Barnard

Stella Barnard of Prague died Wednesday in Oklahoma City. Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Ada Sands

Ada Sands of Prague died Wednesday in Tulsa. She was 89.

Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Ada Sands

Ada Sands died Wednesday in Tulsa. She was 90.

Mrs. Sands was born Jan. 14, 1910, in Okfuskee County near Paden to Dred Coleman Cook and Alva Retta Cook. She lived in the Prague area most of her life and graduated as valedictorian from Prague High School in 1928.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Federated Arts Club, Prague Historical Society and served as secretary/treasurer for the Prague Chamber of Commerce for 28 years.

She worked as a reporter and editor of the Prague Record newspaper and also as secretary for Prague Elementary Schools.

She married Starling Eugene "Blondie" Sands on April 11, 1931, in Clovis, N.M. He preceded her in death in 1966.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Karen Sands, Soldotna, Alaska; daughter, Mary Zell Colquhoun, St. Louis, Mo.; stepson and wife, John Earl and Jo Sands, Prague; stepdaughter and husband, Norma and Tom Fry, Tulelake, Calif.; two sisters, Ollie Dotson, Buffalo, Okla.; Grace Stafford, Watonga; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Prague with Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will be in Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Prague.

Memorials may be made to the Prague Historical Museum.
