Paul Jackson

Paul Jackson, 66, Shawnee, died Friday in Shawnee.

He was born Aug. 23, 1934, in Sasakwa. He was the son of Pearl and Winford Jackson.

He was married to Geraldine (Sutherland) at Las Vegas, Nev., on July 17, 1976. He was a retired U.S. Marine.

He was preceded in death by his father, Winford Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Jackson of the home; three sons, Ronnie Jackson, Anaheim, Calif.; Michael Jackson, Long Beach, Calif.; Blaine Canfield, Brush Prairie, Wash.; three daughters, Susan Wile, Long Beach, Calif.; Marcia Crane, Alameda, Calif.; Maria Pollock, Brentwood, N.H.; mother, Pearl Jackson, Konawa; four brothers, Bill Jackson, Henryetta; Danny Jackson, Del City; Ronnie Jackson, Midwest City; Larry Jackson, Konawa; three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Vamoosa Cemetery, officiated by Richard Winters. Services are under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa.

Mary Ann Vaughn

Mary Ann Vaughn of Newalla died Friday. She was 55.

She was born to Leonard F. and Cleo Ann (Chambless) Murphy Nov. 29, 1944, in McLoud.

She was a member of the Newalla First Baptist Church, attended and graduated from McLoud Schools and married Virgil Vaughn. She worked for the International Crystals in Oklahoma City for several years but left work to maintain a home for her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, father-in-law and one granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil Vaughn; her son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Deborah Vaughn; her daughter, Cheryl Vaughn Meeks; her grandson whom she raised, Joseph Meeks; stepsons and their wives, Allen Vaughn, David and Samantha Vaughn Terry and Regina Vaughn; her mother, Cleo Murphy; her mother-in-law, Mary Vaughn; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sue Garner, Bonnie and Russell Glover, Kathy Harvey Crabb; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Delma Murphy, Bobby and Kathy Murphy, Roy and Marilyn Murphy; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Musgrove and husband Don, Maxine Vaughn; one brother-in-law, Grant Vaughn, 10 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Newalla with burial at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Newalla. Arrangements directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Billie Snell

Billie Snell, 78, Seminole, died Thursday at home after a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Sill officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum.

Other information will be announced.

Billie Snell

Billie Snell of Seminole died Thursday at home after a lengthy illness. He was 78.

He was born March 28, 1922, in Dustin. He was the son of Roscoe Snell and Katie (Brown) Snell.

He moved to Seminole in 1955 from Weleetka. He was married to Esther (Jones) Snell on Feb. 7, 1948, in Weleetka.

They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1998 at the First Christian Church. He retired in Feb. 1985 as a corrosion technician for Sun Oil Company.

He worked for them for 30 years. He was a veteran of the Army-Air Corps. Snell was a Captain Fighter Pilot, flew a P-47 fighter; flew 113 combat missions; served in England, France and Germany during World War II.

He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served on the board, served as elder, taught Sunday School, sang in choir. He attended Dustin Grade School and graduated from Weleetka High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Snell of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Malcolm Wade of Norman; Linda and Ken Hill of Olathe, Kan.; two brothers, Jack Snell of Tulsa; Gene Snell of Midwest City; sister, June Meadors of Del City; three grandchildren, Amy Hill of Olathe, Kan. and Josh Wade of Norman and Kattie Garrett.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Sill officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to First Christian Church Memorial Fund or Charity of Choice.

Karen Elaine Simons

Karen Elaine Simons of Seminole died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 55.

She was born July 26, 1945, in McKeesport, Pa. She moved to Seminole in 1984 from Fallon, Nev.

She graduated from Fontana (Calif.) High School in 1963. She was married to Arnold Lee Simons on June 10, 1967, in Fontana. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1988.

She had been employed at St. Crispins since 1993 and had previously worked as a nurses' aide and a homemaker.

Mrs. Simons was a Baptist.

She did volunteer work for the Lupus Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Arnold "Al" Simons, on June 27, 1988.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Brenda Rene Simons of Mustang; son, Keith Simons of Mustang; grandchildren, Robert Thomas Simons and Stormy Leeann Simons; mother-in-law, Mamie Hill of Seminole and special friend, Lynn Washburn of Seminole.

Services are pending and will be at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Venita Jones Kinnett

Meeker resident Venita Jones Kinnett died Friday at a Meeker nursing home. She was 79.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty Baptist Church under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Further arrangements will be announced.

Patricia Ann Armstrong

Patricia Ann Armstrong died Sunday in an Oklahoma City Hospital. She was 65.

She was born Jan. 23, 1935, to John Henry and Rosa Edna (Rickard) Durham.

She attended Shawnee grade schools and graduated from Shawnee High School. She was employed as a sales clerk.

Mrs. Armstrong married Royce T. Armstrong on April 5, 1952. They were married for 48 years.

The lifelong Shawnee resident was a member of the East Main Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twins; two sisters, LaVeta Braswell and Cletys Owens; and brother, James William Durham.

Survivors include her husband of the home; four children and spouses, Royce T. II and Ardella Armstrong, Jacqueline DeAnne and Tim Birney and John Armstrong, all of Shawnee, and James William and Michelle Armstrong; grandchildren, Emily and Dylan Armstrong, Gwendolyn and Nathaniel Birney, and Courtney and Preston Armstrong, all of Shawnee, and Jason, Justin, J.D., Nichole and Dylan Armstrong; and two sisters, Leta Belle Zeller of Lyons, Ore., and Vivian Dolores Calvary of Tecumseh.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park, Trinity Chapel. The Rev. Bob Anderson will officiate under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Howard Fruit

Howard Fruit of Borger, Texas, died Monday at North Plains Care Center in Borger. He was 85.

A retired shipping clerk for Phillips Petroleum Co., Fruit was a native of Shawnee. He had lived in Borger for 52 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He married Martha Jewell Dunn in 1948 in Shawnee.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; his son, David Fruit, Borger; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Christian Church, Borger, with the Rev. John Gran officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors, Borger.

Ola Lee Barnett

Ola Lee Barnett died Friday in her daughter's home in Edmond. She was 88.

She was born on July 29, 1912, to Ambrose M. Crain and Osee Bernice (Shannon) Crain.

Mrs. Barnett was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McLoud.

She attended Prairie Valley and Sasakwa schools. She received her bachelor of science in education from East Central State College.

She married William "Barney" Barnett on May 28, 1937. They made their home in McLoud, where she taught school for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Richard Dolph of Edmond; two grandson and a granddaughter-in-law, Dan and Stephanie Dolph of Denver, Colo., and David Dolph of Boulder, Colo.; and a granddaughter, Diana Dolph of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Winona Beeck of Auburn, Wash.; one brother, Alec Crain of Grove; one sister-in-law, Fannie Crain of Stroud; four nieces; five nephews; and many other family members and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in McLoud. Burial will follow in the Dale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church Memorial Fund in Mrs. Barnett's name. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Home.
