James Richard Sierks

James Richard Sierks died Monday at a Oklahoma City hospital. He was 64.

He was born June 21, 1936, in Dunning, Neb., to Pete Henry and Grace Barbara (Tinsley) Sierks.

Mr. Sierks had lived in Shawnee since 1981. He moved here from Meeker where he had lived since 1977.

He also lived in Wichita, Kan.

He was an automobile mechanic and member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Sierks married Dorothy McJunkin on Jan. 13, 1958, in Eureka, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Junior Sierks.

Survivors include wife, Dorothy Sierks, Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Trina and Michael Hacker, Shawnee, Patricia and Weldon Wilson, Moore, and Jamey and Kevin Hutchison, Shawnee; brother, Pete Charles Sierks, Kansas City; sister, Dolly J. Hall; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; special friends, Jerry Matthews, E.J. and Betty Benton and Bill and Deborah Clark.

Mr. Sierks may be viewed 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Parks Brothers Funeral Service Chapel in Meeker.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the New Hope Cemetery in Meeker with the Rev. Donna Morton officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Meeker.

Marvin Wayne Tucker

Marvin Wayne Tucker, brother of Shawnee News-Star publisher John Tucker, died Monday at his Independence, Mo., home. He was 52.

Tucker was born Nov. 1, 1948, in Neosho, Mo., and had lived in the Independence and Buckner area most of his life.

Following graduation from Harry S. Truman High School, he played college baseball for three years at Southern Colorado University. He later played professional baseball with the New York Mets organization.

He received a bachelor of science in education from Missouri Western State College and a master's of science in education from Central Missouri State University.

Tucker was a science teacher, academic coach and football, baseball and basketball coach for Archbishop O'Hara High School.

He also had taught at Bridger and Palmer Junior High Schools in Independence, and at a junior high school in Seneca, Mo. He had served as head football coach at Cass-Midway, Harrisonville, Mo., and Concordia High School in Concordia, Mo.

He was active in AAU basketball programs and Independence Youth Baseball Leagues.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of the home; children, Chad Benjamin and his wife, Emily, of Independence; Katrina "Katie" Tucker, of Lee's Summit, Mo.

Branden "Bear" Wayne Tucker of the home; his parents, Ross and Letha Tucker of Seneca, Mo.; and brother, John Tucker, Shawnee.

Following cremation, a gathering of friends will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Buckner Chapel, Buckner, Mo.

Memorials may be made to the Ban Johnson Baseball League in care of Marvin Tucker, P.O. Box 7869, Shawnee Mission, KS 66207-7869.

Alvin Wesley Goodin

Alvin "Ab" Wesley Goodin died Tuesday at his Maud home. He was 64.

Goodin was born Feb. 17, 1936, in Maud to John Wesley and Vaida Florence (Coleman) Goodin. A lifelong Maud resident, he married Janetta Doris Castoe on Dec. 24, 1955, in Maud.

Goodin had worked for Cain's Coffee for many years before working for Georg Fischer Disa Goff Corporation in Seminole. He retired in June of 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Goodin, of the home; two sons, James Wesley Goodin, Davis; Randall Wayne Goodin, Maud; two daughters, Linda Kay Seeger, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Ladonna Gayle Cindle, Tecumseh; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alton "Bud" Goodin, East Carbon, Utah; Dewey Goodin, Maud; Delbert Goodin, Del City; and three sisters, Melba J. Brooks, Maud; Norma LaFarge, Loveland, Ohio; and Sue McCraw, Stillwater.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Donnie Leon Goodin on Feb. 12, 1965.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church, Maud, with the Rev. Carl Whitfiled and the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home.

Henry H. McGee

Henry H. McGee died Tuesday at his home. He was 90.

He was born April 15, 1910, to William Sampson and Alice Lavada McGee at Hendersonville, Tenn.

McGee married Irene Kimes on May 3, 1931. He was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, four children, William Francis, Dale Glen, Charles Floyd and Darrell Dean; three brothers, Art McGee, Tommy McGee and John McGee; six sisters, Reba Russell, Marrietta Anderson, Rena Roberson, Maggie Harrell, Ella Marriot and Pearl McGee.

Surviving are his wife, Irene McGee, of the home; six children, a son, Lloyd McGee and wife Ethel of Jones, daughter Virginia Houseden and husband Bill of Newcastle, son Bert McGee and wife Pat of Armona, Calif., daughter Grace Jilge and husband Larry of Joplin, Mo., son Tom McGee and wife Ramona of Jones, daughter Martha Bates and Chuck of Blanchard; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Jones. Burial will follow at Jones I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Mildred Y. Jones

Services for Mildred Y. Jones, 71, Tecumseh, are noon Friday at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Shawnee, with the Father Maurus Jaeb officiating. Burial will follow at Calvery Cemetery, Shawnee.

Mrs. Jones died Tuesday at Oklahoma City.

She was born Oct. 28, 1929, at South Dakota to John Y. and Clara Twiss Dixon. She attended school in South Dakota and also Gordon Cooper Technology Center, where she received a horticulture certificate.

She had resided in Tecumseh for the past 40 years.

She was preceded in death by three husbands, Ray Polk, Ernest Peck and Arless Odell Jones.

Survivors include three daughters and three sons-in-law, Rochelle and Bill Birrenkott, Rapid City, South Dakota; Carla and David Prewett, Tecumseh, and Janet and Kevin McGrath, Shawnee; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dean and Linda Polk, McLoud; Greg and Karen Peck, Fort Worth, Texas; and Earnest Peck; one sister, Kathryn Stratman, Sonora, Calif.; one brother, Ray Dixon, Rushville, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles E. Smith Jr., M.D.

Charles E. Smith Jr., M.D. died Wednesday. He was 73.

He was born March 5, 1927, in Shawnee to Elder Charles E. Smith and Merle Smith. Dr. Smith served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1945-47.

He earned his bachelor of science in 1950 at Oklahoma City University and his medical degree in 1954 at the University of Oklahoma. He served his internship at St. Anthony Hospital 1954-55 and his residency in psychiatry and neurology 1955-58 at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Veterans Administration Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

He was board certified in psychiatry and neurology in 1961. Beginning his private practice in psychiatry in 1958, Dr. Smith organized the second professional corporation (Professional Corporation of Psychiatry) to be incorporated in Oklahoma in 1961.

He served as a part-time staff physician at the VA Medical Center from 1958-73, as chief of mental health services 1973-83 and 1988 to the present and as chief of staff 1983-88. Dr. Smith was active as a professor in the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

He served on the courtesy staff at Presbyterian, Oklahoma Memorial and McBride Bone and Joint hospitals and active staff at St. Anthony and Integris Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Smith was actively in many community, state and national medical associations and enjoyed a strong national recognition in the field of psychiatry.

He served as treasurer of the American College of Psychiatry Association for 15 years. He served on the boards of the Oklahoma State Department of Mental Health and Mental Health Association in Oklahoma County for many years.

Dr. Smith received the Martin Luther King Award from the Black Affairs Committee at the VA Medical Center and the primary conference room was recently dedicated in his honor.

He was preceded in death by brother David Hall Smith, his father and mother and brother Madison Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Jenny Lee Boyer-Smith, M.D. and children, Lee and Whitney; son, Charles E. Smith III, Ph.D., and his wife, Robin, and children of Newburgh, Ind.; daughter, Robin Brown and her husband, Ed, and children of Hot Springs, Ark.; son, Craig Brown and his family of Oklahoma City and daughters, Laura Gaither and her family; Kim Lewis and her family and Rebecca Smith of Oklahoma City; and Leslie Brown of Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers, Bill Smith of Dallas, Texas; Jim Smith of Shawnee; Weldon Smith of Shirley, Ark.; Robert Smith of Tulsa; Dale Smith of Oklahoma City; sister, Mary Ann McKeithan of Houston, Texas; aunts, Gladys Balyeat of Oklahoma City and Lois Brown of Shawnee; a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, University Boulevard and Apache, Norman, with burial at Maysville.

Donations may be made to the building fund at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6390, Norman, Okla. 73070.

Bobbie Marie Lasiter

Bobbie Marie Lasiter of Seminole died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 68.

She was born Oct. 16, 1932, in Poteau, the daughter of Robert Wallace and Laura Mae Yarbrough Wallace.

She lived in Seminole for more than 20 years. She was married Earl Lasiter, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Lasiter was a medication nurse for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Salmah Beach of Cromwell; Joe and Diane Beach of Seminole; Steven and Debbie Beach of Port Orchard, Wash.; three sisters, Billie Whitley of Seminole; Shirley Lewis of Oklahoma City; Bonnie Henderson of Alabama; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and other family members.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will be at Tate Mountain Cemetery.
