Dora Bernice (Perry) Smith

Dora Bernice (Perry) Smith of Prague died Monday at her home. She was 76.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. today at the Prague Cemetery with Glen Pence officiating.

She was born April 18, 1925, near Paden to William H. and Mary L. May (Raines) Perry.

She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Prague/Paden area.

She married Elden L. "Cotton" Smith on March 3, 1941, in Okfuskee County.

She was an active member of Free Will Baptist churches all of her adult life. She had been a member of the View of Cross Free Will Baptist Church in Prague for the last several years.

Her parents, two brothers, two sisters, a grandson and son-in-law precede her in death.

Surviving are her husband, Elden L., "Cotton" Smith of Prague; two daughters and sons-in-law, Viola and Don Brummett, Commerce, Texas, and Mary Ann and Trois Ootton of Shawnee; a brother, Clifford Perry, Paden; a sister, Christina Hall of Prague; three grandsons and their wives, Michael and Katrina Warden of Prague, Eric and Sharla Brummett of Wichita, Kan., and Perry and Mary Ann Warden of Newton, Kan., and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague.

Memorials may be made to the Prague library or Hospice of Shawnee.

Glen Edward Davis

Glen Edward Davis, 78, Tecumseh, died Saturday in Wynnewood.

He was born Oct. 29, 1922, in Garvin County, the son of Cecil and Lucille Davis.

He had was grounds keeper at a Shawnee hospital and was a farmer and rancher.

Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son; three brothers, Perry Davis; George Davis, and Burl Davis; and grandson, Michael Brandon Moody.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Glynis and Ronald McCarty of Wynnewood; two grandsons, Justin Paul Moody of Oklahoma City and Lucas McCarty of Wynnewood; and his brother, Jimmy Davis of Oklahoma City.

Services were held Tuesday at DeArman Funeral Home Chapel in Wynnewood. Jerry Wells officiated.

Arrangements were under the direction of DeArman-Wynnewood Funeral Home of Wynnewood.

Francis Gerald Cantwell Sr.

Francis Gerald "Jerry" Cantwell Sr., 69, Shawnee, died Sunday in Shawnee.

The son of Thomas and Edna Mae (Reagle) Cantwell was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Darington, Pa. He formerly lived in Fisher, Ill., where he was married to Audrey Gritten on Aug. 21, 1982.

Cantwell served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years and retired in 1973 as a tech sergeant. He worked at Flocon until his 1991 retirement. He delivered the Daily Oklahoman in the Tecumseh area for five years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Shawnee and in Rantoul, Ill.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, two sisters and two granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Francis Gerald Cantwell Jr. of Milden Hall, England, and David James Cantwell of Rantoul, Ill.; three daughters, Debra Jo Motzer of Libertyville, Ill., and Kimberly Ann Delaney and Linda Sue Gebauer, both of Rantoul; stepsons, Newton Anderson of Paxton, Ill., and William A. Anderson of Rantoul; a stepdaughter, Samantha Williams of Tuscola, Ill.; two brothers, Kenneth Cantwell of Struthers, Ohio, and Thomas Cantwell of East Palestine, Ill.; two sisters, Virginia Ash of Stockport, Ohio, and Betty Berger of Austintown, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lux Memorial Chapel in Rantoul. The Rev. Andy Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Danville National Cemetery in Danville, Ill.

Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.

Raymond Junior McLaughlin

Raymond Junior "Red" McLaughlin, Ninnekah, died Monday in Oklahoma City at the age of 50.

The son of Raymond McLaughlin and Phyllis Gouker McLaughlin was born Dec. 8, 1950. He grew up in Meeker, later moving to Shawnee, where he graduated from Shawnee High School.

On July 3, 1970, he married Helen Yoder in Shawnee. Shortly after his wedding, he entered the U.S. Army. McLaughlin served for two years.

Following his discharge, he returned to Shawnee. In 1980, he moved to Ninnekah.

McLaughlin was an automotive mechanic most of his life.

His father and stepfather preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Christine McLaughlin, and Michael and Lena McLaughlin all of Chickasha; his mother, Phyllis Anderson of Shawnee; his brother, Lonnie McLaughlin; two grandsons, Justin and Keldon McLaughlin of Chickasha, and numerous other relatives.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Chickasha. The Rev. Rod Ozmun will officiate. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Gable Cemetery in Meeker.

Arrangements are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha.

Mary Alice Edwards

Former Shawnee resident Mary Alice Edwards died Friday in Oklahoma City at the age of 82.

She was born March 11, 1919, in Denison, Texas. The daughter of George Milton and Mary Keefe January was raised in Dallas, Texas.

In 1939, she and Burt Edwards were married in Dallas.

She had lived in Shawnee in the early 1950s and 1970s. A member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Oklahoma City, Mrs. Edwards was a former member of St. Joseph's Parish.

Mrs. Edwards, a homemaker, was retired from Tinker Air Force Base.

Her husband and parents precede her in death.

Survivors include her three children, Burt Edwards of San Diego, Calif., Don Edwards of Norman and Monica Edwards of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Cecilia White of Dallas; grandsons Gregory M. and Ross A. Edwards, both of San Diego; daughter-in-law, Tava Edwards, and her children, Stephanie, Lori and Jeremy Parks, and many other relatives.

Viewing will be 2 p.m. today at Mercer-Adams Funeral Chapel, Oklahoma City.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Resurrection Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Paula June Sloan

Tecumseh native Paula June Sloan, 68, Locust Grove, Va., died Saturday in a Fredericksburg, Va., hospital.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Tecumseh Cemetery. The Rev. Leroy Kerbo will officiate.

The daughter of Paul and Osie H. Tuggle was born April 2, 1933, in Tecumseh.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.

Survivors include her daughter, Pam S. Roach of Locust Grove, Va.; her son, Ron Sloan of Atlanta, Ga.; her brother, Jim Tuggle of Irving, Texas, and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1385, Fredericksburg VA 22402.

Annie Herrold

Annie Herrold died Tuesday in a Collinsville, Okla., nursing home. The longtime Luther resident was 89.

Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Bryant Wilson Lawrence

Bryant Wilson Lawrence, Shawnee, died Monday at a Shawnee hospital. He was 96.

The son of William and Effie Lawrence was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Newalla. He graduated from Dunbar High School and attended Langston University.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. In 1945, he returned to Shawnee and married Lillie Mae Winrow.

Lawrence worked at American National Bank for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Dunbar Alumni Association and Bethel AME Church.

Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Tulsa and Leonard of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Bryantetta of Broken Arrow and Trudy of Shawnee; sons-in-law, Don Harrison of Broken Arrow and David Smith of Shawnee; a daughter-in-law, Lydian of Phoenix; a brother, Orvil of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. Thursday until service time.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wesley United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Earlsboro Cemetery.

Temple and Sons Funeral Directors, Inc., is in charge of arrangements.

Billy Joe Tate

Billy Joe Tate, 69, Tecumseh, died Monday in Shawnee.

He was born July 14, 1931, in Wirt, Okla. He was raised in the Tribbey and Macomb area. The son of Donnie and Keturie (Johnson) Tate was a graduate of Macomb High School. He lived in Shawnee before moving to Tecumseh 21 years ago.

On July 25, 1980, he married Louise Cowan in Shawnee.

The Tinker Air Force Base retiree was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Tecumseh.

Preceding Tate in death were his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Jess and Jack Tate; and two sisters, Ozella White and Helen Ayers.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Martha Jo Crouch Andrews of Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy Don and Betty Tate of Shawnee; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Tressa and Larry Potter of Drumright and Vickie Clinkenbeard of Tecumseh; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Elzie and Repard Tate of Irving, Texas, and Mary Ann Tate of Shawnee; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God Church in Tecumseh. The Rev. Robert Rider and Bob Gentry will officiate. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
