Chandra Lei Adams

Chandra Lei Adams died Saturday in a Kansas City, Mo., hospital. The Wichita, Kan., resident was 24.

Services are pending under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Ada Ray Gray

Ada Ray Gray of Tecumseh died Thursday at a local hospital. She was 94.

She was born Aug. 3, 1906, near the Brown community to Rufus and Dolly (Snider) Garrett.

She attended the Arkansas Flats schools.

On Dec. 26, 1925, she married James Able Gray. He preceded her in death May 31, 1990.

Mrs. Gray was a Baptist.

Also preceding her in death was her brother, Freddy Garrett, three sons, Orville Gray, Freddy Gray and James Able Gray Jr., and two daughters, Virginia Francis Gray and Ada Ray Gray.

Surviving are five children and their spouses, Robert and Wilma Gray of Camilla, Ga., Roy and Patsy Gray of Bethel Acres, Carl Gray of Shawnee, Barbara and Boyd Lane of Shawnee, Shirley Gray of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Vickie Gray of Sacramento, Calif., Thelma Gray of Tecumseh; special son Paul Gilbert, Shawnee; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Brown Cemetery with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Evelyn Morris

Evelyn Morris of Tecumseh died Saturday in Oklahoma City. She was 82.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Visitation will begin today, and continue until service time.

Other information is pending.

Ruby Evelyn Redd

Ruby Evelyn Redd, 88, Shawnee, died Sunday in Shawnee.

She was born July 8, 1912, in Macawber, Okla., the daughter of W.P. and Mary (Mayfield) Vanzant. She attended Macawber and Farris Schools.

In 1932, she married A.R. Driskell. In March 1944, she married Henry Mitchell. He preceded her in death in September 1961.

Mrs. Redd had lived in Shawnee for 20 years, having lived in California and several other Oklahoma towns.

While living in California, she worked in pear sheds as a packer. She had also worked in cotton fields and in several restaurants. She had managed the King Hotel in Woodward.

Mrs. Redd was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church and attended Blackburn Chapel.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Geneva Colton; two brothers, Kenneth and Lewis Vanzant; and one grandson, Dustin Gee.

Survivors include her two daughters and a son-in-law, Saundra and Andy Taylor of Woodward and Norma Kibler of Shawnee; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dennis and Fay Mitchell of Seffner, Fla., Dale and Donna Mitchell of McLoud, and Bob Driskell of Shawnee; her sister, Irene Cooper of Hot Springs, Ark.; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Larry Sparks will officiate. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery, Jacktown.

Leroy Polecat Jr.

Lifelong Norman resident Leroy Polecat Jr., 53, died Monday in Oklahoma City.

He was born July 6, 1947, to Leroy Polecat Sr. and Emma Mae (Johnson) Polecat.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gaylon and Lester Polecat.

Survivors include his brother, John L. Sloat of Norman; three sisters, Yvonne Lareau of Detroit, Mich.; Delores Johnson of Norman, and Dora Citty of Tribbey, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Cemetery in Little Axe.

Arrangements are by Primrose Funeral Service, Norman.

Dr. James P. Bell

Shawnee native Dr. James P. Bell, 80, died Tuesday at his Edmond home after a lengthy illness.

The retired physician was born July 5, 1922, in Shawnee, the son of Hugh and Ruth Bell.

He graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1939. He attended Oklahoma City University for one year before entering the U.S. Navy. He served in the South Pacific during World War II, from 1940 to 1946.

Bell returned to Oklahoma and received his bachelor's degree from OCU in 1948. He received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1952 and was an intern at St. Joseph's Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.

He served his orthopedic residency at Bone and Joint Hospital from 1953 and 1955; Boston Children's Hospital from 1957 to 1958 and at Mass General Hospital from 1958 to 1960. He worked at McBride Clinic and Bone and Joint Hospital from 1953 to 1985.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Betty; his parents; a sister, Pat; and daughter-in-law, Claudia.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Bell; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tom Bell, Preston and Carolyn Bell, and Rex and Linda Bell; grandchildren, Danny Bell, Kristen Bell, Alex Bell, Elizabeth Bell, Natalie Bell, and Jacob Bell, and several other relatives.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mayflower Congressional Church, 3901 N. W. 63 St. in Oklahoma City.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Oklahoma County, 4334 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City 73116, or the charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Vondell Smith Mortuary, Oklahoma City.

Fred J. Meyer

Fred J. Meyer died Tuesday at his Shawnee home. He was 95.

Services are pending with Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Sandra Kaye Thompson Atyia

Sandra Kaye Thompson Atyia, 62, died Tuesday at her Seminole home following a battle with lymphoma cancer.

Mrs. Atyia was born June 6, 1939, in Seminole to William Clyde Thompson and Mauzelle (Alcorn) Thompson Wallace. She graduated from Seminole High School in 1957.

In 1970, she graduated from Gordon Cooper Technology Center's first licensed practical nursing class. She was a nurse at Seminole's hospital and for Dr. J.B. O'Keefe for 27 years, retiring in 1998.

She married Freid Atyia on June 8, 1957, in Seminole.

She was a member of Seminole's First Baptist Church, charter member of Seminole Hospice and a member of ESA Sorority. She was of the Choctaw heritage.

Mrs. Atyia was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bill and Mike Thompson.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hammett and Pam Atyia and Mike and Sandra Atyia, all of Seminole; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Fred McKenzie, Tulsa; and Tandi and Bruce Coates, Seminole; grandchildren Curtis Lemmings, Oklahoma City; Nick and Libby Atyia, Shawnee; Derek Atyia, Kyle Atyia, Johnnie Barlow Atyia, Michael Bruce Coates, Garrett Coates and Caitlin Coates, all of Seminole; Margo and Madeline McKenzie, Tulsa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Thompson, McAlester; Cheryl Thompson, Marlow; Haney and Sonia Atyia, Midland, Texas; Zekeah and Dale Pease, Dallas, Texas; Norma and Bill Murray, Eagle Pass, Texas; Doug and Judy Atyia, Seminole; Shirlene and Henry Pratka and JoAnn and Floyd Howell, Prague; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Seminole, with Dr. Kelvin Moseley and Nick Atyia officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Falls Creek Building Fund of First Baptist Church, American Cancer Society or the Hospice Center of Edmond.

Fred J. Meyer

Fred J. Meyer, 95, died Tuesday in his Shawnee home.

Meyer, the son of Ben H. and Lena (Wittkopp) Meyer, was born Jan. 29, 1906, in Wellston, Indian Territory.

Meyer worked for the C and M Ice plant for nine years, and retired from Tinker Air Force Base after 23 years.

On Oct. 18, 1928, he and Christine Outlaw were married in Tecumseh.

Meyer and his family had lived in the Shawnee area since 1911.

Meyer, a member of Fairview Baptist Church since 1922, helped to build the first church building, as well as the current building. He was ordained as a deacon and served as church treasurer for 16 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Ben Meyer, Willie Meyer and Emil Meyer; and one sister, Johanna Mize.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Margaret Smith of Belmont, Miss.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Linda and Lynn Norris of Jackson, Miss., Cindy and Jackson Bailey of Belmont, John and Julie Quillen of Lawrenceberg, Tenn., and Kent Quillen of Dennis, Miss.; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Helen Meyer of Dallas, Texas, Geraldine Outlaw of Shawnee and Mildred Outlaw of Dennis, Miss., as well as eight nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Richard Stillwell will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Edna Ruby Johnson

Edna Ruby Johnson, 78, Wellston, died Wednesday in Chandler.

She was born April 19, 1923, in Wellston, the daughter of Walter H. and Ethel (Pro) Davis.

On Oct. 17, 1938, she married Wesley L. Johnson in Shawnee.

Mrs. Johnson, a homemaker, was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Wellston.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one son-in-law, Charles Rackley and a sister.

Survivors include her son, Wesley L. Johnson of Chandler; a daughter, Donna Sue Rackley of Wellston; two brothers, Billie Davis of Wellston and George Davis of Oregon; four sisters, Elma Huff and Wanda Lewellen, both of Wellston; Marie Hackworth of Carney and Marilyn Melson of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Ruby, Brent, Krista and Cony; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Wellston.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Wellston. The Rev. Dewayne Settle will officiate. Burial will follow in Wellston Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Arthritis Foundation or Hospice of Shawnee.

Georgia E. Harding

Georgia E. Harding, 73, Harrah, died Wednesday.

She was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Oklahoma City to George and Ruby (McIntyre) Holder.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth; her daughter, Sheila Orr; five brothers, Howard Holder, Harold Northern, Richard Sparks, Leon Sparks and Donald Sparks; a grandchild, Rainie Dawn Taylor; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel, Harrah. Burial will be in Sunny Lane Cemetery, Del City.
