James L. Ellis

James L. Ellis, 60, Oklahoma City, died Sunday.

He was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Seminole to Ray and Bess Ellis. He grew up on a Sun Ray oil field lease northwest of Seminole. Ellis, valedictorian of his class at Pleasant Grove School, went on to study biology at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, on a scholarship. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and worked full-time at the Holiday Inn in Norman.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the National Guard's 45th Infantry.

After college, he began a career as public servant with the Department of Army in Fort Sill. Ellis, a human resources manager, transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration in April 1971, and served there for more than 30 years.

In 1968, he was married to Lynnette Simmons.

Survivors include three sons, Phillip, Brian and Daniel; his mother, Bess Ellis; his brother, Kenneth Ellis; two sisters, Imogene McCartin and Dixie Byerly, and his grandson, Mason Ellis.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary Chapel, 6934 S. Western, Oklahoma City. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee.

Katie Lou Moody

Katie Lou Moody, 88, Stroud, died Tuesday.

She was born Jan. 14, 1913, in Stroud, the daughter of Robert A. and Helen (Hembro) Jones.

On Aug. 7, 1932, she married Arthur "Arch" Hershel Moody in Okemah.

Mrs. Moody, a homemaker, was a lifelong resident of Stroud and a member of First United Methodist Church in Stroud.

Her husband, parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Survivors include five sons, Robert A. Moody of Woodland Park, Colo., Joe Bill Moody of Unionville, Mo., Jim Ed Moody of Vienna, Va., D. Mike Moody of Norman and Ki Lee Moody of Dallas, Texas; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Stroud. The Rev. Joe Molencupp will officiate. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery. Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Stroud, will officiate.

Memorials may be made to the Moody Family Trust at the United Methodist Church in Stroud.

Minnie Gertrude McDoniel

Minnie Gertrude McDoniel, 97, Seminole, died Wednesday at a Seminole nursing home. She was 97.

She was born June 8, 1904, in Strawberry, Ark., to James Alexander Huskey and Martha Jane (Clark) Huskey.

Mrs. McDoniel had lived in Seminole since moving from Arkansas in the fall of 1929.

On Oct. 17, 1927, she married Magness William McDoniel in Arkansas. Mrs. McDoniel, a homemaker, was a member of the Church of Christ.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Bill McDoniel of Chickasha; her daughter, Minnie Lou Andrison of Seminole; five grandchildren, Jim Andrison; Mark Andrison; Bill Patrick McDoniel; Diana Jesse, and Mike McDoniel; six great-grandchildren, and sisters, May Gray of Mooresville, N.C.; Opal Walls of Memphis, Tenn., and Inez Neel of Cleveland, Miss.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Chris Stinnett will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole.

Swearingen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Keith

Helen Keith, 77, Shawnee, died Wednesday at a local nursing home. Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Virginia Harwell Sanders

Tecumseh graduate Virginia "Jinne" Harwell Sanders died Wednesday at her home in Eagle Rock, Mo. She was 73.

Mrs. Sanders was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Enid to John Hamilton and Pauline (Kline) Harwell.

She graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1945 and worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., retiring in 1977.

She married C.E. Sanders on July 20, 1960, in Oklahoma City and they lived in Midwest City until their retirement. The couple moved to Eagle Rock in 1979.

Survivors include her husband, C.E. "Sandy" Sanders, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Robert Vandiver, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kelly and Bryan Suchy, Oklahoma City; Randy and Clarice Vandiver, New Castle; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters and their spouses, Louis Harwell, John and Faye Harwell, Bill and Carol Harwell, all of Tecumseh; Peggy Harwell, Shawnee; Jane Harwell, Tulsa; Patsy and Robert Axtman, Florissant, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel. Burial will be at Sunny Lane Cemetery.

Helen Virginia Keith

Helen Virginia Keith of Shawnee died Wednesday at a local nursing home. She was 77.

She was born Feb. 26, 1924, in Madill to John and Pearl Thompson.

She was a homemaker and also worked at Pasteur Building for several years before retiring. She was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church, and had lived in Shawnee for 21 years, moving from Oklahoma City.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John Ira Thompson and Pearl Ema (Stanley) Thompson; her husband, C.D. Keith; her son, Charles Dewayne Keith; brother, Robert; and two sisters, Mary and Bonnie.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, June and Otis Whittington, Shawnee; two sisters, Zula Crowder of Memphis, Tenn., and Lulu Curry of Harlingen, Texas; two brothers, Clyde Thompson of Grand Terrace, Calif., and Joe Thompson of Fontana, Calif.; three grandchildren, Bryan Whittington and wife Donita, Shawnee, Amy Grounds and husband Chad, Oklahoma City, and Christi Lewis, Oklahoma City; four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends, and Lela Rutledge, Shawnee.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

May Ellis Wakolee

Graveside services for May Ellis Wakolee, 94, Shawnee, are 10 a.m. Friday at the Ellis Family Cemetery with Donald White officiating.

Tribal rites will be Thursday evening at Horseshoe Bend Community Center.

Mrs. Wakolee died Wednesday in Shawnee.

She was born May 19, 1907, in Shawnee to Sargent and Annie Bullfrog Ellis.

She and Edgar Wakolee were married June 27, 1939, in Shawnee. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1974.

A lifelong resident of Shawnee, Mrs. Wakolee was a homemaker and a housekeeper for many families.

Mrs. Wakolee, an elder of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe, was recognized by the Sam Nobel Museum as the oldest living female of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe during an opening ceremony.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Fannie Yeager; four brothers, John Ellis, Alfred Ellis, Leo Ellis and Charlie Ellis.

Survivors include one sister, Martha Edwards, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, is in charge of arrangements.

Idele L. Archer

Idele L. Archer died Wednesday at her home in Tecumseh. She was 77.

Services are pending with Resthaven Funeral Home.

Percy Childs

Percy Constance Childs died Wednesday at a local hospital at the age of 87.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Other information is pending.

Rickey Don Hartman

Longtime Shawnee resident Rickey Don Hartman, 45, Oklahoma City, died Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mike Presley will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Other information is pending.

Percy Constance Childs

Percy Constance Childs, 87, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

He was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Shawnee, the son of William and Minnie Childs. He lived and worked in Shawnee throughout his life.

Childs was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church in Shawnee.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Temple and Esther Childs of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Helen Townsend of Wichita; nieces, Ameila Scott and Ronna Bailey, both of Wichita, and Loueida Robinson of California; nephews, Temple R. Childs and Lafayette Childs, both of Wichita; Bernard Jackson of Shawnee, and Reginald Jackson of Earlsboro; four great-nieces and great-nephews and one great-great-niece.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Fairview Cemetery. The Rev. R.L. Harris and the Rev. Gertrude Newsome will officiate.

Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel will be in charge of arrangements.

Julie A. (Coatney) Farrell

Julie A. (Coatney) Farrell died Friday in Macomb. She was 38.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Tecumseh. The Rev. Bill Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.

She was born in Enid on Oct. 16, 1962, the daughter of Jim and Gwen (Fox) Coatney. As a child, she moved to Moore, then to Pink in 1973. She was a 1981 graduate of Tecumseh High School.

On Dec. 23, 1987, she married Ruel "Sonny" Farrell in Moore.

Mrs. Farrell was a homemaker and a member of the Victory Life Church in Durant.

She was a former member of the West Tecumseh 4-H Club, the Tecumseh Round-Up Club and the High School Rodeo Association.

Her maternal and paternal grandparents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Ruel "Sonny" Farrell of the home; daughters, Tracy Kay Farrell Seyfried and Barbara Ellen Farrell Garcia, both of Macomb; grandchildren, Savannah Ann Garcia, Mia Renee Garcia, Toni Ellen Garcia and Sierra Elizabeth Seyfried, all of Macomb; parents, Jim and Gwen Coatney of Pink; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William Franklin Sheffield and Ruby May Sheffield, both of Pink, and her sister, Janice Space of Wellston.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
