Nathan Fairel Bryce

Nathan Fairel Bryce, 77, Winfield, Kan., died Wednesday at a Wichita, Kan., hospital.

He was born June 24, 1924, in Shawnee, the son of Nathan Ernest and Alma Webb Bryce.

He graduated from Perry High School and served in the Navy from July 1943, to December 1948.

On Aug. 31, 1952, he and Laveda Heppler were married in Perry. They moved from Perry to Winfield in 1955.

Bryce worked for Jones and Laughlin Oil Well Service in Wichita Falls, Texas, as well as in Perry and Winfield. A short time after moving to Winfield, he went to work for Grief Brothers at Strother Field.

In 1967, he joined the U.S. Postal Service and was a letter carrier in Winfield until 1973. He then became the postmaster of Gueda Springs, Kan., post office. He retired from this position in 1984.

After his retirement, Bryce became owner and manager of Winfield Auto Recycling. He was still operating the business at the time of his death.

Bryce, a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was also a member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States and the Cowley County Amateur Radio Club.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, one sister and one daughter, Kimberly Renee Bryce Witte.

Survivors include his wife, of the Winfield home; two sons, Kevin Robert Bryce and Kurtis Ray Bryce, both of Winfield; a granddaughter, Krystal Sue Bryce of the home; a sister, Marilyn Hall of Wichita, Kan., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Swisher-Taylor and Morris Funeral Home in Winfield.

A graveside service will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery in Winfield.

Memorials may be made to Boy's Town of Omaha, Neb., through the funeral home.

Louise D. Otto

Louise D. Otto, 75, died Monday in her Shawnee home.

She was born July 27, 1926, in Coalgate, the daughter of Joseph Jasper Ruth and Annie Laura (Miller) Ruth.

She moved to Shawnee with her parents in 1942. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1944 and attended Neff Business College.

She and Elmer Otto were married May 9, 1947, in Las Vegas, Nev.

Mrs. Otto, a rural carrier for Shawnee Post Office for 13 years, retired in 1981 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Otto was a member of Aydelotte Baptist Church and a longtime member of Hagar Home Economic Club.

Her parents and one son, Donald Lee Otto, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Elmer Otto of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gaile and George Thorpe of Watauga, Tenn., and Donna Brophy of Carlsbad, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Sylvia Ruth of New York City, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Richard Gay will officiate. Graveside service will be conducted by Commissioner Fred Ruth at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Margueritte J. Newton

Margueritte J. Newton of Stroud died Tuesday in Stroud. She was 90.

She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Mendin Mines, Mo., the daughter of W.A. and Jennie Rodgers.

Mrs. Newton, a longtime Stroud resident, married S.A. "Bert" Newton in Davenport. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Stroud and the Stroud Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, one brother and one sister.

Surviving are one son, Bill Newton of Stroud; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Stroud with the Rev. Sandy Chace officiating. Burial will follow at the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services in Stroud.

Ben Sanders

Longtime Stroud resident Ben Sanders died Tuesday in Stroud at the age of 90.

The son of Isaac and Martha (Cornelison) Sanders was born March 4, 1911, in Sunset, Texas.

He and Opal Hill were married Dec. 7, 1929, in Hollis.

He, a retired farmer, was a longtime resident of Stroud and was affiliated with Stroud Christian Church.

Preceding him in death were his wife, parents, one daughter, six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Pat Sanders of Stroud; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ruth Ann Hodge of Stroud and Carolyn and John Newman of Kendrick; a sister, Ruby Henshaw of Stroud; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and a special friend, Wilma Sanders of Stroud.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Stroud Christian Church. Randy Ethridge will officiate. Burial will follow at Stroud Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Stroud.

Beverly Jean McCarthy

Beverly Jean McCarthy, Chandler, died Wednesday in Chandler. She was 66.

She was born June 12, 1935, in Chandler, the daughter of Joseph Alvin and Alta Louis (Ward) Young.

During her active years, she worked in banking and was a homemaker.

She had lived in the Chandler area all of her life and was a member of the First Christian Church of Chandler.

Her parents, husband and one sister preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughter, Kelly Mooney of Birmingham, Ala.; her brother, Joe Young of Chandler; three grandchildren, Gaston, Houston and Arrington; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church of Chandler with the Rev. Fred Ridder officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Park Cemetery. Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler is in charge of arrangements.

John Melson Trout

John Melson Trout of Hobbs, N.M., died Monday in Lubbock, Texas. He was 68.

He was born July 28, 1933, in Cade, Okla., to William and Loise (Neill) Trout.

On Oct. 29, 1965, he married Thelma Tison in Hobbs, N.M. He spent most of his life in Hobbs.

Trout drove a truck for Navajo Refinery for nine years and had worked in the oil business more than 30 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was a Jehovah's Witness.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma Trout of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Barbara Trout, Jonathan and Suzanne Trout, all of Hobbs, N.M., Charlie and Kelly Trout of Memphis, Tenn.; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Jason Copley of Hobbs, N.M., two brothers and four sisters; 11 grandchildren, Victoria, Keith, Christina, Lance, John, Trent, Haley and Kelci Trout, JoAnna Williams, Kade Brooks and Makenzie Copley.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clint Dawkins, pastor of Sharon Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.

John Paul Brown

Shawnee resident John Paul Brown died Thursday in an Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 76.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dewayne Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.

He was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Shawnee to Roland and Lorena Brown. He grew up in the Dale area and received his degree in education from Oklahoma A&M, Stillwater. He received his master's in education from Oklahoma Baptist University.

He married Mary Rickey Sept. 3, 1948, in Shawnee. He served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during World War II.

Brown taught school at Dale for 16 years. He retired in 1988 from Tinker Air Force Base, where he was a computer analyst. He has an income tax service for 38 years.

He was a member of the Central Church of Christ and served for 12 years as president of Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Theda Brown and daughter Judy Brown June 30, 2001.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Treva Brown of Tecumseh; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Murel Longnecker of Shawnee; six granddaughters and spouses, Tammy and Fredie Green, Amanda and Zack Hasbell, all of Shawnee; Pamela Longnecker and her fiance, Allan Grubb, both of Tecumseh; Karen Brown and Jessica Brown, both of Tecumseh; and Summer and Michael Bradley, Midwest City; three great-grandchildren and one brother, Winfred Brown, Bentonville, Ark.

Vita Mary Barrett

Konawa resident Vita Mary Barrett, 88, died Thursday.

She was born on March 9, 1913, in Lodi, Okla., the daughter of Minerva and James G. Beauchamp.

She had lived in Konawa since 1934 and was married to Otha Barrett July 16, 1934.

Mrs. Barrett was a teacher and homemaker.

Preceding her in death were her husband; one grandson, Robert Frank Barrett; one great-grandson, David Ryan Brewer, and four brothers, Art, Carl, Leroy and Lacey Beauchamp.

Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Gene and Belle Barrett and Glen and Janet Barrett, all of Ada, and Ricky Wayne and Barbara Barrett of Broken Arrow; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gwneth Anita and Frank Brewer of Maud, Linda Karen and Marvin Wood of Ada and Nancy Estelle and Edd Duck of Konawa; 18 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at the Church of Christ in Konawa. Frank Brewer will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home, Konawa.

Robert Mark Fauble

Robert Mark Fauble, 52, Oklahoma City, died Tuesday in Oklahoma City.

A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. today at Fairview Cemetery, Shawnee.

He was born Nov. 24, 1948, in Shawnee to Donald A. Fauble and Alice L. Carnell.

Fauble, a woodworker, was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Preceding him in death were his parents, uncles Clifford Fauble and Gil Hope, and an aunt, Elaine Hope.

Survivors include his wife, Paula, of the home; a son, Michael Brantley of Norman; a daughter, Sherilyn Whitner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Jimmy Fauble of Texas, and Gordon Kinley of Colorado; three sisters, Mary Dignard of California; Ruthan Moore of California, and Kim Anderson of Minnesota; and a number of other relatives.

Arrangements are under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore.
