Emma P. Clark

Yukon resident Emma P. Clark died Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 79.

Services are pending with Resthaven Funeral Home.

Eric James Milatz

Former Shawnee resident Eric James Milatz, 37, died Wednesday at his home in Mesquite, Texas.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 8 a.m. today in St. Gregory's Abbey Church with Celebrant Abbott Martin Lugo, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at St. Gregory's Abbey Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

He was born Oct. 11, 1963, in Detroit, Mich., to Edward and Shirley Milatz. He graduated from Broken Arrow High School and went on to graduate from St. Gregory's College in 1982.

He attended Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, for a short time then entered the monastery for four years. He received his bachelor of arts degree in theology while a monk at St. Gregory's.

He returned to OSU and graduated with a degree in hotel and restaurant management. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Lancaster, Texas, and pursued a career in hotel management.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Milatz, Tacoma, Wash.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Paula and Chuck Despars, Fort Hood, Texas; Laurie and Scott Atkinson and Greta and Keith Wade, all of Chester, S.C.; Bertel and John Stege, Norman; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Martin Milatz, Evansville, Ind., and Steven and Angela Milatz, Tacoma, Wash.; a special friend, Joe DePoo; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Gregory's Educational Fund.

Jack O. Butler

Korean War veteran Jack O. Butler, 64, Shawnee, died Thursday at Shawnee Regional Hospital.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Little Cemetery.

Butler was born Sept. 16, 1936, in Seminole to Earl Lee and Mandy May Estep Butler. He attended Seminole schools and joined the U.S. Army in 1952.

During his military service, he was stationed in Japan and fought in the Korean War. He was an Airborne Ranger with the 101st Airborne Division and was with the military police as a CID. Before he was honorably discharged in 1956, he had reached the rank of sergeant.

He was active in the Coalition Against Capital Punishment and The Committee Against Prisoner Exploitation.

After his military career, Butler was a truck driver and diesel mechanic.

He and Lois McKee were married Dec. 8, 1956, in Woodland, Calif. The couple have been residents of Shawnee since 1976.

Butler was preceded death by his parents and one brother, David Lee Butler.

Survivors include, his wife Lois, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jacolyn Marie and Wendal Chastain, Shawnee, and Cynthia Butler, all of Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky Lee and Diana Butler, Shawnee; one brother, J.D. Butler, Prague; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Noma Mae Vest, Prague, Georgia Lou and David McKee, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; Leona and Guy Cardin, Benson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jack Butler Cancer Fund, First National Bank, 130 E. McArthur, Shawnee, OK. 74804.

Charles Bennett Cass

Charles Bennett Cass of Maud died Thursday at Shawnee Regional Hospital. He was 81.

Cass was born May 9, 1920, in Springfield, Ill., to Charles Thomas and Florence (Bennett) Cass. He moved to Maud in 1952.

On June 9, 1952, he married Bette Lowe in Tulsa.

Cass served in Europe with the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry during World War II. He worked for Oklahoma Gas and Electric, retiring in 1982 after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Maud.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Bette Cass, of the home; son, Ben Cass, Maud; sister, Mary Rebman, Irving, Ill.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole, with the Rev. Gene Teel officiating. Knight Funeral Home, Maud, is in charge of arrangements.

John Millard Knowles

Lifelong Maud resident John Millard Knowles died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 77.

Knowles was born June 1, 1924, in Maud to Phillip Easton and Anna Alma (Mahoney) Knowles.

He was an aircraft mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base and a mechanic and truck driver for Parkhill of Tulsa. In 1984, he opened a small engine repair business at his Maud home.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1942 to 1946, then was recalled in 1951 for the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Maud Church of Christ and had been a member of The Christian Motorcycle Association since 1974.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Loretta Wright, in 1954.

Survivors include three sisters, Ollie R. Roper, Tecumseh; Alma Ruth Hopper, Pink; Martha Bell Myers, Seminole; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Church of Christ, Maud, with Frank Brewer officiating. Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery. Knight Funeral Home, Maud, is in charge of arrangements.

Josephine Pearl Holton

Josephine Pearl Holton, 89, died Wednesday in Stillwater.

Mrs. Holton was born Jan. 29, 1912, in Chandler to Chris and Norah Alice (Miller) Perry. She married Ruben B. Holton on Jan. 27, 1934, and they lived on a farm near Beggs for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister.

Survivors include six nephews, Chris Dallas Perry, Don Holton Perry, Darrell Franklin Perry and Dewey Fay Perry, all of Carney; David Albert Perry, Drumright; and Dennis Ray Perry, Edmond; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, Chandler, with the Rev. Fred Rider officiating. Burial will follow at the Beggs Cemetery.

Frances White

Mannford resident Frances White, 90, died Thursday at a Mannford nursing home.

She was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Goodnight to Shannon and Nora Taylor. She married Charles R. White, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, R.A. White of Enid, Lew White of Del City and Jo Ann Congdon of Mannford; a brother, Jay Taylor of Carney; 13 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the Crossroads Community Bible Church of Mannford with Pastor Kenneth Kerns officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Longwood Cemetery of Ponca City with Brian White and Steve Brown officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Mannford Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Vista Hospice, 4325 E. 51st Street, Tulsa, OK 74135, in her memory.

Beverly Louise Berry-Polin

Beverly Louise Berry-Polin, Oklahoma City, died Aug. 23 at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 67.

The daughter of Darce and Nettie Berry was born April 11, 1934, in Indianapolis, Ind. She attended Crispus Attuck High School in Indianapolis.

On Dec. 17, 1953, she and Irtis Polin were married.

Mrs. Berry-Polin became a Jehovah's Witness in 1957.

She worked in health care, receiving many certificates for her work.

Preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her former husband; two daughters, Sharon Louise Polin of Shawnee, and Corliss Ann Wiley of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mary Francis Highsaw of Oklahoma City, and Viola Mae Ligon of Milwaukee, Wis.; longtime friend Elizabeth Brooks of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives.

A memorial service was held Tuesday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Oklahoma City. Arrangements were under the direction of Demuth Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

Raymond Jerrel Laughlin

Raymond Jerrel Laughlin, 74, Harrah, died Tuesday.

He was born in Harrah on Feb. 27, 1927, the son of Bluford "BR" and Catherine Laughlin. He attended Harrah Schools and Kickapoo School when his family lived in McLoud. His family returned to Harrah, where Laughlin graduated in 1944.

He then attended Oklahoma State University for one year before his U.S. Navy enlistment. He returned from the Navy and earned his bachelor's degree from Central State University. He received his master's degree in educational administration from the University of Oklahoma.

He began his teaching career at Carney. He moved to Omega, where he began his coaching career. He moved from Omega to the Dover school system, then back to Harrah. Upon his 1959 return to Harrah, Laughlin was the elementary principal at Russell Babb Elementary.

When his children began school, his family moved to Jones Public Schools. He was the elementary principal there until his 1984 retirement.

Laughlin served on many boards and committees throughout his career, including the Jones Masons and CCOSA. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Harrah.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one infant daughter, Cindy Lee Laughlin.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Susan Hayes Laughlin; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie Horton of Harrah, and Cathy and Kevin Rogers, also of Harrah; four grandchildren, Kennedy, Sydney, Sara and Ben; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Elmer Smith, Harrah, and his two nieces and their husbands, Donna and Bob O'Hern of Midwest City, and Ginger and Michael Eckhart of Edmond. He also is survived by many other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Harrah.

Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Memorials may be made to the Student Assistant Program at Harrah Middle School, Attorney Linda Talley, 20665 Walker, Harrah, OK 73845.

Cleta Y. Nixon

Cleta Y. Nixon died Monday at Little Rock, Ark. The Shawnee resident was 66.

She was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Shawnee, the daughter of Jacob Vernie and Cloey M. (Schafer) Ziegler. She attend Shawnee Public Schools, where she graduated in 1952. She had lived in and around Shawnee all of her life.

Mrs. Nixon was a homemaker.

She was married to Kenneth B. Nixon in Charleston, Ark., on Sept. 16, 1952.

Mrs. Nixon was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Women's Fireman Auxiliary.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kenett and Larry Toller of Springfield, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Fonda Nixon of Broken Arrow; five grandchildren, Michael Toller, Rebekah Toller, Jared Nixon, Drew Nixon and Christopher Nixon; a brother and sister-in-law, Vernie and Diane Ziegler of Shawnee; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia and Gary Broyles of North Carolina, and Vera and Bob Washburn of Shawnee, as well as numerous other relatives.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rock Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Gay, Terry Newell and the Rev. Larry Toller will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Resthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
