Josephine Mae Byford

Josephine Mae Byford, 69, Davenport, died Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

She was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Liberal, Kan., the daughter of Paris Scott and Jewell (McAmis) Laws.

On April 19, 1947, she and John H. Byford were married in Liberal. She moved from Liberal to Davenport in 1976.

She was retired from her positions as an EMT and nurses' aid at Stroud Hospital. She also was a homemaker.

Mrs. Byford was a member of First Baptist Church in Davenport.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter and one brother.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Vann Allen and Sarah Byford of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Reggie Fields of Lafayette, Colo., Joan and Lance Stout of Quimby, Iowa, Patty Ballew, and Judy Britt, both of Davenport; a half brother, Jerry Scott of Wichita, Kan.; a stepsister, Eula Coffman of Parsons, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

Services will be 9 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Davenport. The Rev. Mike Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be at New Zion Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Stroud.

James B. Dane

James B. Dane, Tecumseh, died Thursday in Tecumseh at the age of 74.

He was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Sallisaw, the son of Cim Benny and Ona Rebecca (Goodwin) Dane. As a teen-ager, Dane moved to Rogers, Ark., where he graduated from high school.

He had also lived in Oklahoma City before his 1965 move to Tecumseh.

On Oct. 10, 1945, he and Barbara McDaniel were married in Rogers.

Dane worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Oklahoma City. He retired in 1976.

He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He served on the rezoning committee for the city of Tecumseh and was a past member of the American Legion.

Dane's parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Randal and Debbie Dane of Tecumseh; a grandson, Marshall Jones of Jacksonville, Fla., and his sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Reedy Rogers of Oklahoma City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Clint Dawkins will officiate. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Cleo Ann Murphy

Cleo Ann Murphy, 90, McLoud, died Friday at McLoud Nursing Center.

The daughter of John Nathanial and Susan Rilla (Richardson) Chambless was born Dec. 26, 1910, in McLoud.

On Oct. 1, 1932, she and Leonard F. Murphy were married. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and, for many years, was a nursery worker at First Baptist Church, McLoud.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, three daughters, two sons, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, two sons-in-law, two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Etta Sue Garner of Shawnee; Bonnie and Russell Glover of Macomb, and Kathy and Harvey Crabb of Tecumseh; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Delma Murphy of Newalla; Bob and Kathy Murphy of Oklahoma City, and Roy and Marilyn Murphy of Nicoma Park; a son-in-law, Virgil Vaughn; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Oleta Newton of Shawnee, and Inez and John Butts of McLoud; a sister-in-law, Margaret Chambless of Wayne; 26 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Chaplin Oran Lee will officiate. Burial will be at McLoud Riverside Cemetery.

Jamison Lee Johnson

Jamison Lee Johnson died Thursday in Oklahoma City. The Burns Flat resident was 1 day old.

The son of Caleb and Michelle (Hall) Johnson was born Sept. 19, 2001, in Oklahoma City.

Preceding him in death were his twin sisters, Faith Lynne Johnson and Abby Jacklynne Johnson; great-grandfather, Paul Johnson, and great-grandmother, Emma Deeds.

Survivors include his parents, of Burns Flat; two sisters, Miranda Sisco of Oilton, and Caitlin Johnson of Burns Flat; a brother, Austin Wood of Pond Creek; grandparents, Linda Dixon of Oilton; Michael Hall of Drumright; Peggy Dehart of Chandler, and Gene Johnson of Shawnee, and his great-grandparents, Kenneth Deeds of Oilton; William Ted and Maxine Dulany of Davenport; Norma Johnson of Shawnee, and Lilo and Larry Holt of Oklahoma City.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery. Father Joachim Spexarth will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Bettie Eileene Fields

Bettie Eileene Fields died Saturday at the age of 55.

She was born June 7, 1946, in Shawnee, the daughter of Roy and June Stokes. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1964. She then earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Central State University.

She was in college when she met her husband, Terry Fields. The couple was married for 33 years.

Her father preceded Mrs. Fields in death.

Survivors include her husband; her mother; her grandmother, Helen Greer; two daughters, Melannie Fields and Rhonda Genzer; son-in-law, Todd Genzer, and a granddaughter, Kelsie Genzer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel, with burial at Arlington Memory Gardens.

Jack Smith

Jack Smith, 70, Shawnee, died Saturday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Smith was born March 16, 1931, in Heavener to John and Deanna (Akin) Smith. He graduated Heavener High School and later studied business at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

On June 13, 1953, he married Betty Ruth Fry in Muse, Okla.

Smith, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, was a retired civil servant with 35 years service. He worked at Perrin Air Force Base in Texas before moving to Tinker Air Force Base, where he worked as a specialist and manager in the engine department.

He had lived for 30 years in Shawnee, where he was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Smith, of the home; a son, Steven Smith, Mountain Home, Ark.; a son and fiancee, Brian Smith and Kandi Sebring, Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jeff Diamond, Shawnee; five grandchildren, Kristi Smith, Tecumseh; Brian Keith Smith, Plano, Texas; Marty Smith, Durant; Leandra Jestis, Bokchito; and Jack Diamond, Shawnee; two great-grandchildren, Lainey Renee Jestis, Bokchito, and Saydi Leigh Smith, Tecumseh; sister, Wanda Burns, Victoria, Texas; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home. The casket will remain open until the service time but will not be re-opened. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Noel Marsh

Longtime Prague area resident Noel Marsh died Saturday at Prague Municipal Hospital. He was 85.

Marsh was born March 1, 1916, near Prague to James William and Josephine Van (Smith) Marsh. He had lived all his life in the Prague area, where he was a farmer, rancher and member of the First Baptist Church.

He married Ednamae Thompson Sept. 4, 1938, in the Pleasant Home area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Ednamae Marsh, Prague; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Ruby Marsh, Prague; two daughters and son-in-law, Judith Cowden, Ada; Cindy and Mike Irwin, Prague; a brother, Woodrow Marsh, Hennessey; two sisters, Sylvia Swinford, Prague; Hope Emerson, Brookings, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Prague, with Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund, Route 3, Box 243, Prague, OK 74864.

Beverly Helen Beasley

Beverly Helen Beasley, 66, Shawnee, died Thursday at an Oklahoma City Hospital.

She was born June 17, 1935, in Wanette to Odell and Julia Evelyn (Jackson) McElhiney. She attended Wanette Schools and Shawnee High School. She had lived in Shawnee since 1950.

She and Virgil Beasley were married Sept. 25, 1955, in Madill.

She was self-employed, helping with her husband's wrecker business, and was a notary public for several years. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julia Beth.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil Beasley, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steve Phillips, Tecumseh; two grandchildren, Zackery and Shala, both of Tecumseh; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Loy Lamirand, Wanette; a brother, Harold Brown, Shawnee; an aunt, Ruby Jones, Midwest City; uncle and his wife, Ralph and Yoland Jackson, Midwest City; great-aunt, Rubula Hargrove, Shawnee; sister-in-law and her husband, Vera and Ed Long, Shawnee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Church of Christ with Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial follows in Tecumseh Cemetery. Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Denver O. McCray

Denver O. McCray, 83, Shawnee, died Friday at a local hospital.

He was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Poteau to Joe Baker McCray and Mary (Shuffed) McCray. He was reared in the Round Rock, Texas, area.

McCray was married to Inas Bristow July 8, 1943, in Shawnee. He retired from the maintenance department at Allen-Bradley/TDK after six years of service. Prior to that, he worked about 20 years at S&S Feed of Shawnee.

He was a member of Open Door Church of God of Shawnee and had lived in Shawnee for about 60 years.

Preceding him in death were his mother and father; five brothers, Grady McCray, Edmond McCray, Earl Pruitt, Johnny Moore and George Moore; a sister, Marie Moore; and three grandsons.

Surviving are his wife, Inas McCray, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Odis Dewayne and Ruby McCray of Wewoka and Gary Edward and Joy McCray of Shawnee; four daughters and sons-in-law, Bertha Dean Anderson of Tecumseh, Delores Jean and Jackie McElfresh of Shawnee, Leavetta Carol and Don Reeves of Shawnee, and Donna Sue and Aldon Davis of Shawnee; a sister, Mary Brust of Burnett, Texas; 24 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Open Door Church of God with the Rev. John Keeling and the Rev. Paul Gregg officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

John Duane Shannon Jr.

John Duane Shannon Jr., 55, of Moore, died Thursday.

He was born June 6, 1946, in Harrah to Dr. John D. Shannon and Velma Mae (Claxton) Shannon.

He married Sharon Kay Hall in August 1975 in Newalla. He was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church.

He earned a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees. He was employed at Tinker Air Force Base and worked in Defense Information Services as a technical manager.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and one brother-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; two sons, Michael Duane Shannon, Oklahoma City, and Anthony Lloyd Shannon, Oklahoma City; one brother, James Michael Shannon of Houston, Texas; one sister, Judy Harrell of Tecumseh; a half-sister, Kay Head of Baldwin, Mo., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Emmaus Baptist Church, 16001 S. Western, Oklahoma City, with the Rev. Mike Booth and the Rev. Jim Lehew officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in memory of John Shannon Jr. to Emmaus Baptist Church.

Services are under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore.
