Opal M. Cravens

Oklahoma City resident Opal M. Cravens, 87, died Wednesday.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Linda Sue Cravens and Bob and Linda Cravens, all of Oklahoma City; one sister, Gladys Langford; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Ben Manis and the Rev. Wayne Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Konawa City Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Irene Jeffcoat

Irene Jeffcoat, 72, died Wednesday in Shawnee.

Jeffcoat was born May 17, 1929, in Pauls Valley to Clarence and Florence (Hughes) Hollis.

She married Donnie P. Jeffcoat on May 6, 1947, in Chickasha.

She owned and operated Irene's Cafe in Tecumseh, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, No. 1317, of Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Hester Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Donnie P. Jeffcoat; daughter, Lawana Irene Jeffcoat of Konawa; three sisters, Ida Bourbonnais of Shawnee, Joan Gillham of Tecumseh and Frances McCormick of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Carl Hollis of Bakersfield, Calif., and Clifford Hollis of Tecumseh; two grandsons, Tracey Caudle of Saint Louis and Travis Caudle of Shawnee; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Hurst officiating.

Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Sandra Martin

Sandra Martin, 55, died Tuesday.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; children and their spouses, Mike Martin and Mitch and Shannon Martin, all of Dallas, Texas, Kristine and Joe Gross of McLoud and Cyndi and John Perry of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; stepfather, J.E. Snowder; and many other family members and friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Emma Jean Lewis

Shawnee resident Emma Jean Lewis, 73, died Saturday at her residence.

She was born March 21, 1928, in Kansas, Okla., the daughter of the Rev. Roy Saumty and Lillian Saumty.

She graduated from Gotebo High School in 1946 and Lawton Indian Nursing Training Program in 1947. She worked as a licensed practical nurse and retired after 35 years of service.

In 1947 she married Ted Ricker Jr. in Poplar, Mont. He preceded her in death. In 1973 she married Phillip Lewis in Oklahoma. He also preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church of Shawnee and a member of the Kiowa Tribe.

Lewis lived in Montana from 1947 to 1971 and Oklahoma City from 1974 to 1979. She returned to Shawnee in 1981.

In addition, she was preceded in death by her father, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Dwain Salveson of Billings, Mont., and Theda S. and Frank Parker Jr. of Parker, Ariz.; one son, Joseph Ricker; four granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Sheila and Cherie McCabe, Penni Begay and her husband Lucius and Jenna Ricker, all of Arizona; five grandsons, Travis and Denny Salveson of Billings, Mont., and Chaskae, Nataani and Forrest McCabe of Parker, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren; a mother, Lillian Saumty of Shawnee; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Janie Saumty of Anadarko, Carroll and Ruth Jones Saumty of Okmulgee, Joe and Donna Jones Saumty of Shawnee, Sam and Teresa Jones Saumty of Tulsa and John and Wanda Jones Saumty of Shawnee; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Thrasher of Tecumseh and Lou and Bill Hatley of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A wake will be 7 p.m. today at First Indian Baptist Church of Shawnee. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Billy S. Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Debbie Ann Taylor

Debbie Ann Taylor, 43, of Paden died Sunday in Stroud.

Survivors include her mother, Jean Bohn of Stroud; her father, Raymond Taylor of Paden; a brother, Arlie Taylor of Paden; and a sister, Dianna Moore of Paden.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Micawber Cemetery near Okemah with Pastor Felix Waller officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Parks Brothers Funeral Service.

Pearl Tilly

Pearl Tilly, 100, died Sunday in Tecumseh.

Survivors include three daughters, Tamsy M. Driskill of Mesa, Ariz., Louise Johnson of Galveston, Texas, and Mary A. Hill of Tecumseh; one sister, Oleta Lewis of Quinton, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley with Robert Dunagan officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh.

Christopher Boyer

Christopher Boyer, 11, died Monday at his residence.

Services are pending with Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Harvey A. Binau

Harvey A. Binau, 81, Shawnee, died Saturday at a Tecumseh nursing home.

Binau was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Winner, S.D., to Albert Harry Binau and Nellie L. (Tuttle) Binau.

He was reared and attended school in northwest Oklahoma and southern Kansas. He later graduated from Konawa High School.

He worked as a civil servant at Tinker Air Force Base and retired after 17 years of service.

Binau was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army for four years.

He was married to Bonnie Ruth Farris on June 23, 1976.

Binau was a longtime member of Sharon Baptist Church. He had lived in Shawnee since 1946.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Binau, of the home; a sister, Mae Wenzel, Kiowa, Kan.; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Marsha Binau; and several nieces and nephews.

The family has designated the American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Fund as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Max I. Taylor

Max I. Taylor, 75, of Shawnee died Saturday at a local hospital.

He was born June 6, 1926, in Boswell, Okla., the son of Marion Buck and Jessie (Lovett) Taylor.

He moved to Madill at age 10 and graduated from Madill High School in 1943.

Taylor was a newspaper pressman, beginning with the Ada Evening News and later working for the Norman Transcript. He began work at The Shawnee News-Star in 1951 and worked full time here until his retirement in 1991. He continued to work part-time at the News-Star until 1998.

Taylor married Carrie Ellen Rowe on March 10, 1945, in Sherman, Texas.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, during World War II, earning the rank of sergeant in the infantry. During the occupation of Japan, he was stationed in Tokyo, serving as a personal secretary to Gen. Willoughby.

Taylor was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, the Shawnee Elks Lodge and the AARP, American Association of Retired Persons.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Glenn Taylor; a sister, Pauline Alsup; a brother-in-law, Lee Alsup; and a son-in-law, Charles Keyes.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry M. and Marilyn Taylor of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Donna S. Keyes of Shawnee; three grandchildren and spouses, Tom and Jodi Thompson of Azle, Texas, and Stacy and Eddie Herron and Randy Keyes, all of Shawnee; a sister-in-law, Sue Stone of Rockledge, Fla.; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Christian Church of Shawnee with the Rev. James Sill and the Rev. Mike Presley officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are being handled by Resthaven Funeral Home.

The family has designated the First Christian Church Building Fund, 1625 N. Broadway, Shawnee, OK 74804, as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Zada Elsie (Doss) Welch

Zada Elsie (Doss) Welch, 89, of Shawnee died Friday in a local nursing home.

She was born Dec. 18, 1912, in Justin, Texas, the daughter of William Gus and Melvina (Stovall) Doss.

She attended school in Addington, Okla., and was a homemaker. She married L.C. "Bud" Welch on June 5, 1927, in Addington and moved to Shawnee in 1940. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charles Cruce Welch; two grandsons, Dennis Smith and Michael Cockman; and two great-grandsons.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Naomi and Bill Lauback of Newalla, Reba and Clifford Crosswell of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Wilma Cockman of Shawnee; a son, Raymond Clyde Welch of Shawnee; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Church with Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church.

Lola Beamer Williams

Lola Beamer Williams, 89, of Shawnee died Friday at a local nursing home.

She was born May 2, 1912, in Dale, the daughter of P.F. and Mina (Burk) Beamer.

She graduated from Dale High School in 1931 and attended Oklahoma Baptist University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1941. She earned a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Oklahoma. She also completed some work on a doctorate at OU.

Williams taught school at Dale, Ray City, Newalla and Choctaw. She was a teacher and administrator at Choctaw Elementary School for 31 years, retiring in 1977. She did substitute teaching at McLoud, Harrah and other schools.

She married Clyde Williams on Dec. 27, 1938.

Williams was a member of Harrah United Methodist Church and the Trinity Sunday School class. She sang in the church's choir and was treasurer of that group. She was a member of Retired Educators of Pottawatomie County, AARP of McLoud, and the McLoud Chapter No. 193 of Eastern Star. She helped organize and was secretary-treasurer of the Dale Alumni Association, retiring from that post June 22, 1996.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, P.F. "Bud" and Wanda Beamer of Shawnee; a sister, Mae Woodall of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law, Holly Jo and James Cantrell of Nixa, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and numerous friends from the surrounding area.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.

Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
