Violet Jean Veitenheimer

Violet Jean Veitenheimer, 76, died Sunday in Oklahoma City.

She was born March 15, 1925, in Sacred Heart, Okla., the daughter of Pete Veitenheimer and Grace (Bruno) Veitenheimer. She was a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.

Preceding her in death were her brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Ruby Veitenheimer, her brothers Emmit and William Veitenheimer, and her parents.

Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Hisako Veitenheimer of Monterey, Calif.; sister-in-law, Ruth Veitenheimer of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Calvary Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Massoth, O.S.B., officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home/Caskets Inc., Del City.

Johnnie Franklin Skaggs

Johnnie Franklin Skaggs, 80, McLoud, died Monday after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Depew, Okla., the son of Milford Cornelious Skaggs and Catherine Elizabeth Martin.

On July 22, 1942, he married Mabel Mae Chambers of Stroud in Galveston, Texas.

Skaggs served in the U.S. Army during World War II and afterward he established his home in Oklahoma City. In 1976, the Skaggs built a home in McLoud, where they retired.

Skaggs was a member of the Carpenter Local Union No. 329, where he became master carpenter and finisher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and past patron of Order of the Eastern Star, McLoud Chapter.

Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers, Thurston, Seldon and Raymond Skaggs; and three sisters, Plura Berryhill, Ecy Knapp and Fannie Snyder.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel; two daughters, Joan Swanson, Moore, and Etta Darlene Reid of Summerfield, N.C.; four grandchildren, Amy Swanson Blevins of Longview, Texas, Andy Brooks of Edmond, Julie Brooks Starry of McLoud and Sarah Brooks of Summerfield, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Dollie Goad of Oklahoma City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the McLoud First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

Cheryl Thomason

Shawnee resident Cheryl Thomason, 43, died Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Clint Thomason and Shane and Nicole Thomason, all of Shawnee; two grandchildren; her mother, Norma Snider of Shawnee; two sisters, Belinda Snider and Tamara Hall, both of Shawnee; special friend, Chris Whittington of Shawnee; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Glen Thomason officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

James R. Stevenson

James R. Stevenson, 86, died Friday in Fort Worth.

Survivors include his son, Jim Stevenson of Forth Worth; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Carri of Weatherford; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Heritage Baptist Church. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee. Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home.

Frances L. Coker

Frances L. Coker, 82, of Harrah died Thursday in Harrah.

She was born Aug. 9, 1919, in China Grove, N.C., the daughter of Jay Linden and Constance May (Goble) Menius.

She was reared in North Carolina and moved to Oklahoma in 1937. She also lived in Texas, Missouri and Ohio. She attended school in North Carolina.

On Sept. 28, 1938, she married Charles Austin Coker in Shawnee. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2001.

She worked as an accountant at various places, retiring from Wright Patterson AFB in 1985.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Constance Needham.

Survivors include a sister, Helen Louise McBride of Georgia; seven children and their spouses, Carole and Kenneth Glover, Paul and Roberta Coker, Myrl and Mike Palmer, Lynda and Larry Neely, Truett Coker, Connie Coker and Rick Coker; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. John Coker and the Rev. John Mixon officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh. The casket will remain open until 9:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home and will not be reopened at the church.

Arrangements are being handled by Cooper Funeral Home.

The family has designated New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund as appropriate for memorials.

Rachel Edmundson Osborn

Rachel Edmundson Osborn, 90, a former Shawnee resident, died Saturday in Fairfax, Va.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, George O. and Elinor Osborn of Tenfield, N.Y.; a sister and brother-in-law, Edith (Osborn) and Bill Sweeden of Stillwater; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Rosie Marie Edmundson of Stillwater; Alfred and Mabel Edmundson of Carson City, Nev., and Ralph and Christine Edmundson of Shawnee; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ed and Nellie Osborn Overturf of Shawnee; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Georgine Osborn-Freed and her husband Don Freed of Scandia, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service and burial will be held in Fairfax.

Bobbie J. Reeves

Bobbie J. Reeves, 66, died Friday in Dallas, Texas.

Survivors include her mother; her husband, Clarence Doyle Reeves; two daughters, Mia Goodwin of Dallas, Texas, and Trina Ward of Austin, Texas; one son, Russell Reeves of Kansas City, Kan.; four sisters, June Hale of Las Animas, Colo., Dorris Freeman of East Point, Mich., Patricia Neer of Tecumseh, Starla Southerland of Sapulpa; one brother, Teddy Barrett of Littleton, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Graveside services will be noon today at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Euna B. Greer

Euna B. Greer, 88, of Lee's Summit, Mo., died Saturday at White Ridge Health Center, Lee's Summit.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Everett Greer, of Lee's Summit; a sister, Lottie Monday of Harrison, Ark.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Maurice and Virginia Greer of Earlsboro and Norris and Kathy Greer and Dr. Dale Greer and Paula Greer, all of Lee's Summit; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Johnson and Dr. Lloyd Johnson of Ava, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Floral Hills East Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Langsford Funeral Home.

Myrtle E. Martin

Myrtle E. Martin, 106, died Saturday in her Shawnee home.

Martin was born Oct. 16, 1895, in Choctaw to Joe and Ruby Percival Hale.

She was reared in Meeker and graduated from Meeker High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

She and Roger Martin were married April 17, 1912 in Shawnee.

Martin is preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Verna Barfield.

Survivors include her son, Paul Martin, Harjo; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew and his wife, Scott and Mona Baird, Edmond.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Scott Baird officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Roesch Walker Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Eloise Appleby Franken

Shawnee resident Eloise Appleby Franken, 92, died Sunday at her home.

She was born May 29, 1909, in Springfield, Mo., to Edgar H. and Ophelia (Ferrell) Appleby.

She earned a teacher's certificate from Southwest Missouri State College and taught kindergarten at Wilson School and Franklin School. She also taught music and reading at St. Benedict.

She married Ed A. "Dink" Franken in June1934 in Billings, Mo. He preceded her in death in November 1977.

She was a member of the Junior Service League for more than 50 years and also was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Sponsa Regis and Altar Society.

She also was preceded in death by two grandsons, J. T. Moyer in 1992 and Josh Evans in 2001, and a granddaughter, Kathy Franken in 1964.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Andy and Larry Moyer of Seminole and Betsy and Duane Evans of Lawrence, Kan.; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Penny Franken of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandsons, Brandon Moyer, Rafe Evans and Ken and Michael Franken; two granddaughters, Jadee Kabance and Jennifer Duffy; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be 7 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be noon Wednesday at St. Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Massoth, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Edgar D. Dwight

Midwest City resident Edgar Dwight, 80, died Friday.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Further information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Elvis Harold Saylor, Sr.

Elvis Harold Saylor, Sr., 82, of Shawnee died Friday at a Norman hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Mae Saylor; a son, E. Harold Saylor Jr. of Shawnee; a brother, Jim Saylor of Davis, Okla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole, with the Rev. Dewayne Bobbitt officiating. Burial will be in the Little Cemetery.

Peggy Jones

Nowata resident Peggy Jones, 43, died Jan. 20 at Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville.

Survivors include her father, Lewis Jones and his wife Cleo Jones of Disney; mother, Wanda Hedrick Jones Douglas and her husband, Virgil Douglas of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Kena Purkey and her husband, Larry Purkey of Kingsville, Texas, and Sherry Jones of Disney; and one brother, Mark Jones and his wife Rhonda Jones of Harrah.

Jones was buried in Jay, Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Worley-Langbuel Funeral Home in Jay.

Beverly Helen Beasley

Shawnee resident Beverly Beasley, 66, died Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central Church of Christ. Further announcements will be made by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

William Robert Campbell

Former Shawnee resident William Robert Campbell, 49, of Edmond died Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his wife Jan Campbell; daughter, Robyn of Edmond; brothers and sisters, Frances Coffman of Harrah, Glenda Schammerhorn of Tishomingo, Janice Harris of Bethany, Joy Myers of Shawnee, David Campbell of Tecumseh, Richard Campbell of Bethel, and Ernie Campbell of Bethel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with burial in Gracelawn Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Baggerley Funeral Home.
