Virgil E. Hickle

Virgil E. Hickle, 88, died Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Stroud Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Hickle, of the home; two daughters, Irene Ashley, Cushing, and JoAnn Carpenter, Yukon; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Arthur Galloway

Meeker resident Arthur "A.J." Galloway, 103, died Sunday in Meeker.

He was born Jan. 19, 1899, in Meeker, the son of Seth and Mary Flowers Galloway. He was a lifelong dairyman and farmer in the Meeker area.

He was a member of the Mammoth Baptist Church for many years and also served as a deacon.

On Sept. 6, 1919, he and Ada Maude Boland were married in Tecumseh.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Eva Galloway, Meeker; daughter, Pressie Brown, Meeker; sister-in-law, Lorrine Galloway, Meeker; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers, four sisters and a son, Houston Galloway.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mammoth Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Sinko officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Viewing will be held until 8 p.m. today at Parks Funeral Chapel in Meeker.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mammoth Baptist Church building fund at P.O. Box 642, Meeker, OK 74855.

E. Glen Barnett

E. Glen "Jiggs" Barnett of Tecumseh died Sunday in Shawnee. He was 80.

He was born May 3, 1920, in Paden. He was the son of Cleve and Etta (Griffin) Barnett.

He attended school in Paden and was a graduate of Paden High School. He was reared in Paden and had resided in Tecumseh since 1953.

On April 25, 1944, he married Pauline Baker in Paden. He served with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 27 years until his 1975 retirement. He was an engine disassembly and parts inspector.

A Pearl Harbor survivor, Mr. Barnett served with the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.

He was a member of the Tecumseh Free Will Baptist Church; the American Legion Hill-Huett Post No. 260, Tecumseh, and the VFW, Tecumseh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Cleo Maher and one brother, Guy Barnett.

Survivors include his wife Pauline Barnett of the home; one daughter, Paula Ritchie of Tecumseh; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Glen A. and Sandra Barnett of Shawnee, Gerald and Dorothy Barnett of Yukon, Robert Barnett of Tecumseh and Rusty and Cathy Barnett of Tecumseh; three sisters, Hattie Dawson of Paden, Ruby Lemonds of Velma, Edna Peterson of Midwest City; one sister-in-law, Iva Barnett of Lawton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Waldo Young and the Rev. Ken Myers officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Joe Claud McQuerry

Joe Claud McQuerry of Meeker died Monday at a local hospital. He was 89.

He was born Aug. 20, 1910, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was the son of James Craven and Beulah Ann (Cobb) McQuerry.

He was a used car dealer. He was a member of the Highway Baptist Church in Little.

He lived most of his life in the Seminole area and in Meeker for the past year and a half.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Mae McQuerry McKey on Oct. 12, 1999 and two sons, Joe McQuerry and J.D. McQuerry.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Carol McQuerry, Meeker; one daughter, Claudie Bailey, Shawnee; one daughter-in-law, Pat McQuerry Coker, Shawnee; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends can view the body on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Frankie Lott

Frankie Lott of Tecumseh died Sunday. She was 83.

She was born June 9, 1917, in the Skagg City community south of Tecumseh. She was the daughter of Jess and Molly (Branson) Davis.

She attended Forest View School. She had lived in the Tecumseh area all of her life.

On Oct. 7, 1933, she married Lloyd Lott in Maud. He preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 1982.

She owned and operated Cattleman's Cafe in Tecumseh for many years. She later worked for the Cinderella Motel Restaurant until retiring in 1983.

She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and the Tecumseh Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Jerry, Darrell and Dean Lott; her parents; three brothers, Artle Davis, Ted Davis and Dan "Lank" Cartmill; and one sister, Lenora Hays.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Roy Rider of Tecumseh; three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Shelia Lott of Tecumseh, Dale and Carol Lott of Oklahoma City, Ted and Jane Lott of Sugarland, Texas, and Marie Lott of Bakersfield, Calif.; one sister, Beulah Harmon Holt of Tecumseh; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at First Assembly of God Church, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Robert Rider, pastor, Tecumseh, officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Anne Wiggins

Anne Wiggins of Oklahoma City died Tuesday. She was 85.

She was born to Winston and Nancy (Wilson) Wiggins Jan. 27, 1915, in Sulligent, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Delbert and W.A., and one sister, Wyoming Brantley.

Survivors include her sister, Gladys Gatz of Tulsa; numerous nieces, nephews; and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole. Arrangements directed by Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Edward J. Gray

Edward J. "E.J." Gray of Shawnee died Monday at a local hospital. He was 83.

He was born Jan. 31, 1917, in Oklahoma. He was the son of Bill Gray and Oma (Stringer) Gray.

He was a graduate of Bethel High School, and was a retired railroad worker.

He married Flossie Mouka who preceded him in death in 1972. Later, he married Margaret L. Blevins on June 6, 1973, She, too, preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1999.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. He lived in the Shawnee area most his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives and two brothers.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Roxanne Gray of Santa Fe, Texas, and Gary and Deanna Gray of Tecumseh; two sisters, Virginia Wisdom of Shawnee and Willa Mae Rogers of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Lori Gray, Matt Gray, Grant Gray and Leigh Gray; and one great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Blassingame.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with pastor Doyle Loveland officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

W.H. Wood

W.H. "Woody" Wood of Tribbey died Monday in Tribbey. He was 76.

He was born June 14, 1923, in St. Jo, Texas, the son of James Virgle and Fannie Leetress (Smith) Wood.

He was a 1941 graduate of Bray High School in Stephens County. Mr. Wood was reared in Stephens County.

He had been a Tribbey resident for more than 30 years. In 1972, he married Pauline Climer.

He worked for Prell Axle and Wheel in Oklahoma City as a front end specialist. He also worked as a foreman for the Jude and Jody Ranch for 19 years and as a heavy equipment operator for the Pottawatomie County District 2 for 10 years, retiring in 1996.

He owned and operated Woody's Dozer. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife Pauline Wood of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Lavonda Wood of Wanette and Pete and Susie Wood of Lindsay; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Terry Schanuel of McLoud; stepson and spouse, Frank and Sharon Flowers of Bonanza, Ark.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Billie H. Wood of Midwest City and Richard E. and Sonya K. Wood of McLoud; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Dale Smith, Church of Christ, Tribbey, officiating. Burial will be at Tribbey Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Bill A. Hall

Bill A. Hall died Wednesday in his Shawnee home at the age of 80.

He was born in Jan. 30, 1921, in Hominy, the son of Ned and Olive M. (Bradfield) Hall.

Hall had lived in Seminole County for 79 years.

He retired as field foreman from Consolidated Natural Gas in 1986.

On Oct. 15, 1942, he and Lessie Margaret Wilkerson were married in Seminole. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 1999.

Hall served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of staff sergeant. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Metal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, several brothers and sister, and his daughter, Shirley June Hall.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Sharon Hall of Shawnee; daughter, Carol Ann Hartman of Shawnee; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Mozelle Hall of Earlsboro; sister, Ethel Harris of Midwest City; and his grandchildren, Greg Hall of Oklahoma City, Jeff Hall of Edmond and Bill Hartman of Shawnee.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jim Waller will officiate. Burial will be in Little Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
