Elizabeth L. Murray

Shawnee resident Elizabeth L. Murray, 73, died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

She was born in Shawnee on May 5, 1928, the daughter of Carl L. "Shorty" and Dona Faye (Green) Bawcum. She had been reared in Shawnee and attended Shawnee Public Schools.

On Oct. 1, 1950, she and Richard Lee Murray were married in Oklahoma City.

Murray was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Louise Moore; one son, Stanley Carl Murray, and one son-in-law, James Weldon.

Survivors include her husband of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Lee Garrett of Shawnee, Linda Weldon and Jim Woods of Oklahoma City and Rhonda Faye and Theodore Hill of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Ray and Maria Murray of Austin, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Churchwell will officiate. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Roma June (Moses) Evans

Roma June (Moses) Evans died Tuesday in a local hospital at the age of 82.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1918.

She was a youth and adult Sunday school teacher for a church in California for more than 20 years, where she was also a choir member.

Evans and her husband taught the youth at their church in San Angelo, Texas.

Upon moving to Shawnee, she taught the young married class at her church. She had served latest as teacher of the senior adult ladies Sunday school class at Fairview Baptist Church. Her service at Fairview spanned 23 years.

She was a secretary at Waukesha Motors, Tulsa, and Dupont. She also was a secretary for First Baptist Church, Sapulpa, and was a personal secretary for R. Lofton Hudson of the First Baptist Church, Shawnee.

She was the first female assistant branch manager for Security Pacific Bank in Fullerton, Calif., and she retired after 20 years of service. After her retirement, she worked as secretary for Fair Oaks Baptist Church, Fair Oaks, Calif., and at Fairview Baptist Church of Shawnee for 13 years.

Evans also was a member and director of Women's Missionary Union (Women on Missions).

Her husband, Estel W. Evans, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sharon; granddaughters, Dede, Jill and Lindsay; one great-granddaughter, Gabbriella; a son-in-law, T.J.; and five sisters.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Stillwell will officiate. Her cremains will be buried at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Southern Baptist International Mission Board in care of Fairview Baptist Church, Shawnee.

Brian K. Davis

Brian K. Davis, 42, Arlington, Texas, died Friday in Arlington.

He was born Nov. 16, 1958, the son of Bill L. Davis and Donna I. (Hause) Davis.

He had earned his bachelor's degree at Oklahoma Baptist University and a jurist doctorate degree from the University of Tulsa.

He was a self-employed civil law attorney in Fort Worth, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 11ð years, Kathy Davis of Arlington; sons, Joshua Daniel Davis and Jacob Samuel Davis, both of Arlington; his parents Bill and Donna Davis of Seminole; a brother Mike Davis and his fiance´, Mary Henniger, of Addison, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Bill Campbell of Seminole; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe and Jean Myers of Arlington; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Chris Huffman of Fort Worth; and many other relatives.

Services were held Monday at First Baptist Church, Arlington. Burial was in Andice Cemetery, Andice, Texas. Arlington Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Hearing Impaired, 2000 M. Street, N.W. No. 310, Washington D.C. 20036.

Marilee F. Bolz

Chandler resident Marilee F. Bolz, 77, died Wednesday. Services are pending under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Kirk M. Massie

Kirk M. Massie, Chandler, died Tuesday at the age of 49. Services are pending under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Marie Antonie Lowery

Marie Antonie Lowery, 88, died Tuesday in Tulsa.

She was born in Europe on April 27, 1913, the daughter of Bartolomej A. and Antonie (Malek) Gojis.

She lived in the Prague area most of her life. She was a homemaker.

On Aug. 14, 1930, she and Charlie Lowery were married in Prague. He preceded her in death.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, son, Gene, and adopted son, Jack.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, George and Bennie Jean Lowery of Tulsa; sister, Frances Sedlacek of Prague; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Prague Cemetery. Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague, is in charge of arrangements.

Erin Barbara Gaines

Lifetime Meeker area resident Erin Barbara Gaines died Tuesday in Oklahoma City at the age of 13.

The daughter of Michael and Rhonda (Whiteside) Gaines was born Feb. 11, 1988, in Midwest City.

Gaines attended Family of Faith Church and Family of Faith School.

She was active in the Fishers of Men group in Meeker.

Her grandparents, Elsie and Jack Gaines and Barbara Ann Casteel, precede her in death.

Survivors include her parents, Meeker; sister, Amanda Lowrance, Meeker; and grandparents, Clay and Shirley Monks of Meeker. She also is survived by many other relatives.

Viewing will be held at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Meeker.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Family of Faith Church in Meeker. Dr. Sam Matthews will officiate; burial will follow at White Dove Cemetery in Sparks. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Bertha Martin

Shawnee resident Bertha (Birdsell) Martin died Sunday at a local nursing home. She was 80.

Mrs. Martin was born April 5, 1919, in Searcy, Ark., to John William Castoe and Member Elizabeth (Drury) Castoe. She married Clarence J. Birdsell on Sept. 4, 1937, in Seminole. After his death, she married Bill Martin.

She was a homemaker and member of Oklahoma Avenue Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Survivors include her son, Harvey Paul Birdsell, Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie E. and Charles Mangus, Shawnee, Bernice A. and Bud Lee, Canton, Texas, and Christine L. and Bob Cummins, Drumright; brother, Robert Castoe, Oklahoma City; sister, Sylvia Price, Stroud; Syble Tilton, Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence J. Birdsell, on July 23, 1960; her second husband, Bill Martin, in 1984; her parents; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Sylvia Oreatha Shackelford

Shawnee resident Sylvia Oreatha Shackelford died Sunday in a local nursing home. She was 88.

Mrs. Shackelford was born Nov. 19, 1910, in Pontotoc County to Stephen Henry and Laura Elvara (Burden) Sanders.

She married Lewis Mabry Shackelford on Dec. 20, 1929, in Custer County. He preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Ollie M. "Buck" and Lou Ann Shackelford, Norman, Mrs. Bobby D. "Bee" Shackelford, Shawnee, Wiley Henry "Dub" Shackelford, Shawnee, Donna Sue Lauderdale, McLoud, Royce Jr. and Barbara Shackelford, Tecumseh, Kathy Louise and Dennis Charvat, Guthrie, and Annetia Jo and Ivan Nobert, McLoud; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters and one son, Bobby Shackelford.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Dale Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Loretta M. Morris

Loretta Morris died Sunday at a local nursing home. She was 64.

Mrs. Morris was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Kelleyville. She was the daughter of the late Albert Peepers and Annie Cherry Peepers.

She married Joe Bill Morris in 1973 in Ada.

She was a resident of Seminole County since 1956 and worked as a cook in several local restaurants.

Survivors include her husband, Bill, of the home; sons, Joe Dell Peepers, Wolf, and Alvin Ray Tatum, Okemah; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Dean Hasbell Peace, and three half-brothers.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah with the Rev. Charles Harelson officiating. Burial will follow at the Bearden Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Gertrude Ann Kennedy

Gertrude Ann Kennedy died Tuesday at her home east of Okemah. She was 87.

Mrs. Kennedy was born June 30, 1912, in Dustin, Okla. She was the daughter of Dug Sharp and Lucy Tiger.

She married Edwin A. Kennedy Dec. 8, 1932, in Okemah. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1985.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a nurses aide and had lived in Okfuskee County since 1974.

Survivors include her sons, Edwin A. Kennedy, St. Marks, Fla., and Michael J. Kennedy, Okemah; daughter, Helen Delores Sheppard, Rancho Cordova, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.
