James Bazemore

James "Jim" Bazemore, 83, of Harrah died Saturday.

Survivors include one sister Alma Gene Terrel of Midwest City; two nieces Jennifer McKinney of Del City and Denise Jenks of Choctaw; nephew Richard Terrel of Little Axe; and several great-nieces and great- nephews.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel of Tecumseh. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Robert John Saulsberry

Robert John Saulsberry, 80, of Shawnee died Saturday.

He was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Chandler to Robert and Hazel (Holcraft) Saulsberry.

He worked for OG&E for 36 years as a regulator specialist and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Eulean Osburn on April 1, 1950, in Van Buren, Ark. She preceded him in death on Nov. 20, 1997. He then married Towana Jacobs in Shawnee on Oct. 29, 1999.

Saulsberry lived in the Shawnee and Chandler area most of his life.

He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Shawnee and a member of the American Legion Post No. 64 in Chandler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.

Survivors include his wife, Towana Saulsberry of Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Connie Saulsberry of Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, Janette and Bear Honeycutt of Kingston, Okla.; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Jacobs of Dale; an aunt, Rachel Schofield of Chandler; four grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and April Honeycutt, Sabrina and John Morgan, Zachary Saulsberry and Ashley Saulsberry; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Chandler with the Rev. Richard Dickinson and Brother Robert Wonn officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Park Cemetery of Chandler under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Harry F. Koester

Harry Frederick Koester, 86, died Thursday at his home near Chandler.

Survivors include his wife, Verna M. Koester, Chandler; three grandchildren and their spouses, Randy and Rae Lynn, Chandler, Kim and Brent Kautzman, Chandler, and Rex and Dawn Koester, Carney; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Koester, Chandler; sister, Pearl Huset, Clearwater, Fla., six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellston, with the Rev. Harold Kamman officiating. Burial will follow at Star Valley Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brother Funeral Service.

Alma Lee Brown

Alma Lee Brown, 84, died Wednesday.

Survivors include three sisters, Orene Bridges, Reba Fern Elliot and Helen Chaffin; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Chapel.

Melvin V. Tye

Harrah resident Melvin V. Tye, 87, died Tuesday.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Brenda Kent of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Kay Pogue of Broken Arrow; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday. Burial was at Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Memorial Chapel.

Payton Alexander Bullock

Payton Alexander Bullock, 30-day-old son of Robert and Marcie Bullock, died Tuesday.

Survivors include his parents, three brothers, Jordan Bullock, Ethan Bullock, and Aaron Bullock; four sisters, Eden Bullock, Lauren Bullock, Megan Bullock and Caitlin Bullock; grandparents, Stella and Louis Gomes, James N. Gay and Karen Buhler.

Services will be 1 p.m.. Saturday at Western Hills Church, 401 S.W. 44th, Oklahoma City. Burial follows in Fairview Cemetery. Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Rena Lilly

Rena Lilly, 90, died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital.

Services are pending and will be announced by Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Prague.

Vera M. Fisher

Vera M. Fisher, 91, Shawnee, died Thursday at a local nursing home.

She was born Feb. 28, 1911, in Earlsboro to Benjamin Franklin Keys and Ella (Walraven) Keys. She graduated from Earlsboro High School and East Central State University in Ada, earning a teaching certificate.

She taught grade school in Earlsboro for three years before her marriage. She married Willie Roy Fisher Oct. 27, 1933, in Ada. After marriage, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Shawnee and the Eastern Star. She had lived in Shawnee since 1959.

Preceding her in death were her mother and father; sister, Audi Taylor; and three brothers, Mercer Keys, Albert Keys and Erwin Keys.

Surviving are two nieces, Alene Graham of Shawnee and Glenda Tarr of Earlsboro, and many other friends and relatives.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

The family has designated Hospice of Shawnee as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Mittie (Hulse) Clary

Mitte (Hulse) Clary, 99, Norman, died Friday in Tecumseh.

She was born Sept. 26, 1902, in Stella to H.E. and Hattie (Barton) Hulse. She was reared in Wanette and had lived in Wayne. She lived in Norman since 1960.

She was a graduate of Wanette High School and attended The University of Oklahoma, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in English and literature.

She was married to Grover Clary. He preceded her in death in 1956.

She taught school in Pottawatomie and Cleveland county rural schools. She taught many years at Wayne High School and retired from Moore High School.

She was a member and Sunday School teacher at Trinity Baptist Church of Norman. She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star, Chapter 67, in Lexington since 1927.

She was a homemaker.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Rosamond Myers of Shawnee and Ruth and Ernest Farley of Wanette.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Marie P. Kucera

Prague native Marie P. Kucera, 87, Borger, Texas, died Friday at her home.

Surviving are her husband, Emil Kucera Sr.; two sons, Reiman Kucera of Borger, Texas, and E. Jerry Kucera Jr., Jenks; one sister, Lizzie Jezek of Prague; and four grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Borger, Texas, with the Rev. Hilda Cavazos officiating.

Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Czech National Cemetery in Prague.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors, Borger, Texas.

Lindsey Harmon Hughes

Lindsey Harmon Hughes, 77, died Feb. 28.

Hughes, a retired Clinton postman, was born June 18, 1924, in Shawnee to Bailey and Margaret (Eliff) Hughes. He grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1942.

He joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. While stationed at Clinton Sherman, he met and married Veotta Alemeda Driscoll on Feb. 18, 1945.

Hughes began working for the Clinton Post Office in 1945 and worked there for 33 years. After he retired from the post office, he worked as a maintenance man for city hall and Clinton Savings and Loan. He was a member of First Baptist Church, VFW and American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and a sister, Ellen Ruth Plott.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Jean Rhoads and husband Rusty of Clinton; Marilyn Rose Clark and husband Russell of Weatherford; a son, Charles Harmon "C.H." Hughes and wife Lela of Cordell; eight grandchildren, Rhonda, Vaudy, Michael, Kyla, Kendra, Charles, Cameron and Craig; and five great-grandchildren.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church in Clinton with the Rev. Bryan Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Stanley-Lee Funeral Home, Clinton.

Maxine Bracksieck

Maxine Bracksieck died Saturday at her Shawnee home at the age of 65. Arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Jewell McConnell

Jewell Corine McConnell, 90, Shawnee, died Tuesday.

She was born April 5, 1911, at Shawnee to Monroe and Rosie Hixson. She lived in Shawnee all of her life.

In 1927, she and Arbrey Hollis were married. He preceded her in death in 1953. She and Thomas McConnell were married in 1966. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She was a homemaker.

McConnell also was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Don Hollis.

Survivors include four grandchildren Greg Hollis and Marla Moore, both of Edmond, Rebecca Moreland, Shawnee, and James Hollis, Georgia; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and numerous nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Tecumseh Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leatrice Sparks

Leatrice "Nanny" Sparks, 79, of Shawnee died Monday at a local hospital.

She was born Sept. 3, 1922, in Elmore City, the daughter of "Doc" and Mary (Christine) Mowdy.

Sparks was a homemaker and a member of Wallace Avenue Baptist Church.

She grew up in the Rush Springs area and married Vernon Sparks on Oct. 2, 1940.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1979; a son; two brothers, Bronell and Ray Mowdy; three sisters-in-law, Lois Alexander, Faye Belshe and Jewel Broyles; and four brothers-in-law, Virgil Sparks, Joe Davis, Earl Broyles and Joe Belshe.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Darrell Whittington; a granddaughter, Tiffany Whittington; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Travis Penny; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Alta Mowdy; two sisters-in-law, Roxie Davis and Leona Sparks; a brother-in-law, the Rev. Byrd Alexander; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

A service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with Dr. Melvin Whittington Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
