Mabel Blanche Adams

Agra native Mabel Blanche Adams, 81, died Friday in Lewisville, Texas.

She was born July 6, 1920, in Agra to Samuel and Minnie Jane (Earay) Saak. She married Leo O. Adams Aug. 23, 1943, in Bryan, Texas.

Adams worked many years for the Wellston Public Schools as a cook and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a grandson.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Adams of Lewisville; a son, Alvin Adams of Lewisville; two daughters, Dorothy Bone of Enid and Jane Elizabeth Brant of Arkansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Wellston with the Rev. Alan Small officiating. Burial will follow at Wellston Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Chandler.

Adams may be viewed at the Parks Brothers Chapel in Wellston today 8 a.m. until noon.

William E. Simmons

Shawnee resident William E. Simmons, 79, died Tuesday at a local nursing home. Services are pending with Resthaven Funeral Home.

Gene Doyle Leatherman

Gene Doyle Leatherman, 66, of Seminole died Sunday at an Ada hospital.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda Ann and Ronnie Timmons of Seminole; two brothers, Walter M. Leatherman of Toledo, Ohio, and Jerry D. Leatherman of Deming , N.M.; two sisters, Nellie E. Hays and Nancy M. Hays, both of Deming, N.M.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Pritchard officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Jack Donald Davis

Jack Donald Davis of Okemah died Sunday at his home. He was 68.

He was born July 18, 1931, in Holdenville. He was the son of George A. Davis and Dona Eloise (Hinds) Davis.

Davis lived in Seminole for 50 years. Before that he lived in Holdenville.

He worked on first drilling rig in Jamaica and owned Ackers Tank Service. He retired from Sertco Aircraft Parts in 1994.

He also worked for Seminole County. Davis served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Okemah, member of Toast Masters V.F.W. and Deacon First Free Will Baptist Church, Wewoka.

Survivors include son, Jackie Lee Davis of Wewoka; two daughters, Vicki Major of Seminole; Susan Davis of Wewoka; one sister, Wanda Smith of Wewoka; four grandchildren, Dustin Jack Hatfield; Brandon Lee Davis; Earnest Mitchell Davis; Amy Dawn Hatfield; two great-grandchildren, Courtney LeAnn Davis and Brittany Nicole Davis.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger Brewer officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Loretta Welt

Loretta "Susie" Welt of Yukon died Monday. She was 54.

She was born April 6, 1945, in Prague. She was the daughter of R.J. McGehee and Dorothy Jean Castleberry.

Mrs. Welt was a longtime Seminole resident. She moved to Oklahoma City in 1994.

She married Gary Welt Jan. 10, 1966, in Seminole. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Welt attended the Congregational Methodist Church. She graduated from Seminole High School.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Welt of the home; two sons, Scott Welt of Duncan; Huff Harper Welt of Mustang; daughter, Gari Welt of Mustang; aunt, Maxine Davis of Seminole; grandchildren, Jessica; Alyssa; Amanda; Courtney; Whitney; Kale; Garison and Jaden; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Clair F. Washburn

Clair F. Washburn of Meeker died Monday. He was 85.

He was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Troy Mills, Iowa, to Carol and Alma Saxton Washburn. He married Loraine Weber on Dec. 4, 1939.

For many years, he worked in production at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids, until he retired in 1977. He attended Troy Mills Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Orval and Quentin and two sisters, Lavone Washburn and Lois Shoudy.

Survivors include his wife, Loraine; two daughters, Helen Licht of Bruce, Wis., and Randalene Washburn of Meeker; a son, Feryl Weld of Chesapeake, W. Va.; a brother, Lester Washburn of Quasqueton, Iowa, and a sister, Lillian Jeffries of Kansas City, Kan.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Troy Mills Christian Church, by the Rev. Les Larson. Burial will be at Troy Mills Cemetery, under the direction of Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

James Lowell Cooper Sr.

James Lowell Cooper Sr. died Monday. He was 79.

He was born June 27, 1920, at Paden. He was the son of the late James W. and Sara Lou Visa Cooper.

He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Albert Rankin, in Milfay and graduated from Milfay High School.

Cooper married Marie June 14, 1941, in Stroud, and they moved to Drumright in 1945.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He worked for Cities Service Oil Co. for 26 years, until he joined his wife in the management of Cooper Nursing Home.

He served as president of the Cooper Nursing Home Corp. for several years. He served as time keeper at the Drumright High School basketball games for 20 years and was a member of the Drumright Masonic Lodge No. 468.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Drumright for 50 years and served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent and training director of department No. 3.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, James L. Cooper Jr. and Linda A. Cooper, McAlester; James and Linda Cooper's foster son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Lindeloe Wongebe; Stuart Wongebe's children, Jeanne, Simone, Jim and Anna Karen; son and daughter-in-law, Rick L. and Judy W. Cooper; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, James Jeffrey and Leslie M. Cooper, Shawnee; great-granddaughters, Taylor and McKenzie Cooper, both of Shawnee; great-grandson Austin Cooper, Shawnee; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Cooper, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Gary Evers, Norman; grandson, Dillon Michael Evers, Norman; grandson, Derek Jason Evers, Moore; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jacob Lowell and Angie Williams; great-grandson, Jacob R. Williams, Streetsboro, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Ann Cooper, Drumright; and other relatives.

Services were 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Drumright. The Rev. Bob Ross and the Rev. Ray Moffeit officiated. Burial was at the Prague Cemetery under the direction of Don Smith Funeral Home, Drumright.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Parsonage Fund, care of the First Baptist Church, Drumright.

James H. Harvey

Shawnee resident James H. Harvey died Tuesday in Norman. He was 80.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Liberty Baptist Church, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Ernest Posey Sorrells

Seminole resident Ernest Posey Sorrells died Monday at his home. He was 73.

Sorrells was born March 9, 1926, in Little to Josephous Daniel Cornelious Sorrells and Lacey Lillian (Chaffin) Sorrells.

He was a truck driver, and owned several businesses in Seminole, including Ernest Cab Service. He was a licensed airplane pilot and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his son, Thomas Leon Sorrells, Glendale, Ariz.; daughter, Ernestdean Grossman, Concho, Ariz.; niece, Dedra De Sorrells, Seminole; brother and sister-in-law, Ermon and Delores Sorrells, Arizona; five grandchildren, Ernest Dwayne Sorrells, Scott Duwayne Chandler, Stephen Owen Chandler, Dawn Lee Howell, Lisa Nicole Williams; great-grandson, Austin Paul Howell; stepchildren, Roberta Blackard, Shawnee; Jerry Beaty, Arkansas; and Dale Beaty, Oklahoma; stepgrandchildren, J.L. Beaty, Adam Blackard, Justin Blackard, Andrew Beaty and Cash Beaty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty Elizabeth Sorrells; and two brothers, Sherman and Sam Sorrells.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl B. Whitfield officiating.

Robert Lee Honeycutt

Longtime Shawnee resident Robert Lee Honeycutt died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 55.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Herman Coffman officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Honeycutt was born Feb. 25, 1944, in Corvalis, Ore., to Marquis "Bud" Honeycutt and Florence Turner Honeycutt. He married Doris Coker Aug. 27, 1970, in Shawnee.

He attended Shawnee Public Schools and Okmulgee Tech. He was a self-employed truck driver, mechanic and welder.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Honeycutt, Shawnee; daughter, Shannon Honeycutt, Shawnee; son, Todd Honeycutt, Shawnee; grandsons, Michael Honeycutt, Wanette; Christopher Honeycutt, Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Melba and Dave Coffman, Shawnee; Wanda and Howard Peelman, Oilton; parents, Bud and Florence Honeycutt, Shawnee; mother-in-law, Bertha Coker, Wewoka; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Honeycutt and Steven Honeycutt.

Grace Violet Manatowa

Grace Violet Manatowa, a long-time Cushing resident, died Tuesday in a Cushing hospital. She was 104.

The daughter of the late William "Bill" and Sophia (Blackburn) Dooley, she was born Dec. 24, 1894, in Rogers, Ark.

She came to Oklahoma at the age of 3 with her family in a covered wagon, was reared and educated in the Cushing area, and attended school at Harmony and Happy Valley. She joined the Only Way Baptist Church in 1917.

She married Elmer Manatowa in 1912 in Chandler and had nine children.

They lived in Stroud, Bellmont, and Cushing until 1925. The family made their home at the Sac and Fax Reservation south of Stroud from 1925 to 1939. In late 1939, the Manatowa family moved to the family farm southeast of Cushing.

She was active in many clubs, including the Friendly Twenty Club, the Flower and Garden Club, The Our Night Out Club, and the Sac and Fox Rodeo Club. She was named "Honorary Mother of the Year" in 1993 by the Sac and Fox Nation.

She worked as a cook at the Happy Valley School for 15 years, and had many hobbies.

She resided with her daughter Igy Whipkey in Cushing, until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 27, 1966; one daughter, Marguerite Manatowa, and one son, Joe Manatowa.

Surviving are six daughters, Lorene "Igy" Whipkey, Cushing; Bessie Nelson, Homer, Alaska.; Maxine Paquano, Okmulgee; Lucille Dugger, Twenty Nine Palms, Calif.; Hope Della Calce, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Billie Soby, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; one son, Elmer Manatowa, Sulphur; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; other family and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home in Cushing with the Rev. Sonny Johnston officiating. A service will also be held at 2 p.m. at the Sac and Fox Reservation Community Building, six miles south of Stroud.

Burial will follow in the Sac and Fox Reservation Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Services are under the direction of the Davis Funeral Home, Cushing.

Harvey Earl Cornelison

Seminole resident Harvey Earl Cornelison died Tuesday at Talihina Veterans Center. He was 74.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating.

Cornelison was born July 26, 1924, in Morris to Hubert and Adda (Turner) Cornelison. He married Juanita (Meeks) Cornelison in Shawnee on June 15, 1947.

He served in the 3rd Army, 12th Armored Division during World War II and was a T-4 staff sergeant.

He was the longtime owner of Cornelison Engines, Seminole, until it closed in 1988. He was a member of First Baptist Church, American Legion of Seminole, 12th Armored Association and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of Shawnee.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Cornelison, of the home; son, Steve Cornelison, Seminole; son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Cindy Cornelison, Lufkin, Texas; brothers, L.E. "Red" Cornelison and Claude Cornelison, both of Seminole; sister, Jean Parsons, Seminole; and two grandchildren, Garrett and Daniel Cornelison, both of Lufkin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
