Leroy Snowden

Wewoka native Leroy Snowden died Monday at the age of 59.

He was born June 25, 1942, in Wewoka.

He was a deacon at the First Assembly of God Church of Harrah and played softball for the Over 50 League in Midwest City.

He is survived by his wife, May, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Shorty Harris of Choctaw; a son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Elisa Snowden of Harrah; two grandchildren, Faith and Caleb Harris of Choctaw; and two brothers, Jim and Norman Knapp, both of Smithville.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Harrah Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Harrah under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service of Harrah.

Vivian Edna Rogers

Longtime Prague area resident Vivian Edna Rogers died Sunday in Checotah at the age of 89.

She was born June 21, 1912, in Wetumka to Alva Arthur and Clara (McRae) Brady. She was married to Homer C. Rogers Jan. 15, 1933.

Mrs. Rogers, who operated the Busy Bee Cafe for many years, was a member of the First Church of God in Moore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Graden Edward Rogers in 1994, five brothers, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, Homer Dale Rogers of Council Hill, the Rev. Arthur Wayne Rogers of Marionville, Mo., and Danny Ralph Rogers of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters and one son-in-law, Edna Garner of Council Hill, Helen and Robert Case of Moore and Connie Killian of Yukon; two brothers, Graden Brady of Checotah and William Brady of Escondido, Ca.; one sister, Irene Gentry of Choctaw; 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Prague with the Rev. John Callaway officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Cemetery.

Mary Williamson

Shawnee resident Mary "Maxine" Williamson died Monday in a local hospital at the age of 78.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rockford Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Other information is pending.

John Jeffrey Anderson

John Jeffrey "Jeff" Anderson, Shawnee, died Friday in Shawnee at the age of 31.

He was born June 4, 1970, in Shawnee, the son of Ruth Dodson and Johnny Anderson. He attended Tecumseh and Shawnee High Schools, graduating in 1989.

He was a member of South Rock Baptist Church and was licensed through Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission.

Anderson was preceded in death by his grandparents, M.N. "Red" Anderson, Della Anderson, Dee and Juanita Hodges.

Survivors include Shera (Scott) Anderson of the home; his son, John Jeffrey Anderson Jr; his mother, Ruth Dodson of Shawnee; his father and stepmother, Johnny and Debbie Anderson of Tecumseh; brother, Derek Anderson of Shawnee; a sister and brother-in-law, Haley and Nic Spencer of Shawnee; a stepsister and brother-in-law, Dana and Melvin Harris of Tecumseh, and several other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Kenny Kerbo will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Alice C. Grace

Alice C. Grace, Cushing, died Monday at Cushing Regional Hospital. She was 68 years old.

The daughter of Marion Edgar and Thelma Margaret Tate Thomas, she was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Cushing. She grew up and was educated at her birthplace. She was a 1950 graduate of Cushing High School.

She and William "Alec" Grace were married July 1, 1950, in Cushing. They had two children, Beverly and Charles Grace.

Mrs. Grace was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church. She was a nurses' aide at the Cushing hospital for several years and later was a secretary for the First Baptist Church in Stillwater.

Survivors include her husband, William "Alec" Grace, of the home; daughter, Beverly Grace, Stillwater; son, Charles Grace, Oklahoma City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Doris Thomas, Midwest City, Don and Wilda Thomas, Shawnee, and Gary and Cheryl Thomas, Tecumseh; several nieces and nephews and other relatives, including Annabelle Cherry, Cushing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Thomas.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday. The casket will remained closed during the service.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, Cushing, with the Rev. Lonny Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cushing or any other church or favorite charity.

Davis Funeral Home, Cushing, is in charge of the arrangements.

Gloria Ann Ayers Snyder

Gloria Ann Ayers Snyder of Shawnee died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 64.

She was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Shawnee, the daughter of Easter (Mack) Magruder and Irene (Taylor) Magruder Charbonneau.

She was a graduate of Bethel High School. She was a homemaker.

She also worked for the Oklahoma State Welfare Department.

She lived in Midwest City for more than 30 years before moving back to Shawnee in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include ex-husband, Jack K. Snyder of Utah; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherrill LeAnn and Larry Gordon Martinez, Shawnee; son, Johnny Lee Ayers, Shawnee; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Rechael Ann and Scott Allen Oliver; one grandson, Michael Jacobs; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandson, Dillon Youngblood; one brother, Mack Benny Magruder, Tulsa; two sisters, Peggy McKone, Tuttle; Janice K. Wood, Bethel; two stepchildren, Larry Gordon Martinez Jr. of Tulsa and Kelly Renee Martinez of Branson, Mo.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Dorothy M. Finklea

Dorothy M. Finklea died Thursday in Ada. She was 83.

She was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Porum, the daughter of Floyd and Esther (Anderson) Finklea.

Ms. Finklea was a teacher who graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a bachelor of arts in education.

She received her master of arts from the University of Colorado. She did graduate studies at Minnesota University, California University, Arizona State University and Wisconsin University.

She began her teaching career at Maud High School in 1938. She then went to Okmulgee High School from 1940 to 1963 and taught mathematics, English and journalism.

In 1943, she became girls' counselor and eventually adviser for the school newspaper and annual.

She received the Gold Key awarded from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in 1958.

She was one of four Oklahomans to be honored during CSPA's 40 years of service to school publications. In 1963, she started teaching at Oklahoma Baptist University as assistant professor of journalism.

During her career, she earned a Distinguished Service Citation, the highest award of the Oklahoma Interscholastic Press Association.

In 1965, she left OBU to teach at the University of Central Arkansas as assistant professor of journalism. Before her retirement in 1978, her biography appeared in the 1977 first edition of the publication World Who's Who of Women in Education.

She was past chairwoman of the Oklahoma Division of National Association of Journalism Directors and had been chairwoman of the Journalism Teachers and Publications Advisers Association of the OEA. She also was a member of the First Baptist Church, Muskogee, and was active in the women's missions.

She was preceded in death by her parents and just recently by her sister, Mary Gene Dean on Aug. 18.

Survivors include two nephews and their spouses, Douglas W. and Ann Dean of San Antonio, Texas, and their three children, Megan, Michael and Morgan and Floyd and Susan Dean of Ada and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Kimberlea.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Bradley Belltower Chapel with Dr. David Becker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Bradley Family Funeral Service in Muskogee.

Catherine E. Walsh

Catherine E. Walsh of Edmond died Friday in Edmond. She was 93.

She was born June 6, 1907, in Paradise, Kan., the daughter of Jay C. Tusing and Laura E. (Miller) Tusing.

She married William P. Walsh on July 7, 1932, in Shawnee. She was executive secretary for the Physical Science Lab at Oklahoma Baptist University.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee, a member of the OBU University Alliance, BPW club of Shawnee, China Painters Club and Shawnee American Legion Auxiliary.

She moved to Edmond from Shawnee in 1981.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn Walsh of Edmond, Marjorie and John Prickett of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, Holly Prickett of Boston, Mass., and William Prickett of Austin, Texas.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Rhodes and Dr. Richard Canham officiating. Services are under the direction of Baggerley Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to OBU.

Wilhelmina (Billie) Plantz

Wilhelmina (Billie) Plantz of Pink died Sunday in Shawnee. She was 89.

She was born Nov. 10, 1910, in Idaho, the daughter of Frank and Bernice (Nungesser) Luntz.

She attended elementary school at Black and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1928. She moved to Pottawatomie County when she was 8 years old and has lived here since.

On May 21,1931, she married Clovis Washington "C.W." Plantz in Gainesville, Texas. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 12, 1971; her parents; one daughter, Margaret Haley; one grandson, Jim Plantz; and two sisters.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and L.A. Wilson of Pink; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard W. and Rita Plantz of Stroud and Clovis Earl and Betty Plantz of Pink; son-in-law, Gene Haley of Pink; half-brother, Jerry Carr of Seattle, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Brown Cemetery with the Rev. Will Bentley officiating. Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

The casket will remain open at the cemeteryfrom 9:15 a.m. until service time.

Pearl R. Thompson

Pearl R. Thompson of Shawnee died Sunday in Oklahoma City. She was 90.

She was born Sept. 16, 1909, in Sapulpa, the daughter of Frank and Marybelle Webb.

She attended school at Glenpool and Sapulpa. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Thompson married Walker L. Thompson on July 23, 1927, at Chandler.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1932; active in the Women's Missionary Union; charter member of the Lilac Unit of the Shawnee Garden Club; and Gideon Auxiliary.

She and her husband cared for 101 foster children in their home.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, W.L. Jr., Donald Rhea and Timothy Joe; and one grandson, Danny Kay Thompson.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Susie Thompson, Moore; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Gene Holder, Peachtree, Ga.; four grandsons and their wives, Bruce and Michelle Thompson, Plano, Texas; tom and Michelle Holder, Peachtree, Ga.; Mark and Cathy Holder, Greenville, N.C.; Tony and Alice Thompson, Carrollton, Texas; one granddaughter and her husband, Tracy and Monty Brinkley, Texarkana, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Carl Webb, Shawnee; Eddie Webb, Alamogordo, N.M.; Dick Webb, Lakewood, Colo.; one sister, Dolores Holland, Sterling, Colo. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
