Denver L. Claytor

Asher resident Denver L. "Dan" Claytor died Saturday at his home. He was 71.

Claytor was born Jan. 17, 1929, to Ed and Effie Claytor in Fordwick, Va. He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years during the Korean conflict and two terms in Vietnam. He retired in 1970 with a sergeant's first class ranking

He taught ROTC at the University of Oklahoma and taught disable adults at St. Gregory's College before retiring in 1970.

He married Dalene Cockett in 1950. They were married 27 years. He married Yvonne Tipton of Asher on Sept. 29, 1982.

He also owned Claytor Janitorial Service.

Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Claytor, Asher; brothers and sister-in-law, Doug and Ida Claytor, Clifton Forge, Va., Linwood Claytor, Norfolk, Va., and Jim Claytor, Augusta Springs, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie Doyle, Stanton, Va., Drucilla and Win White, Charlotte, N.C., Edna and George Hams, Stuarts Draft, Va., Naomi and Bill Sprouse, Waynesboro, Va., and Corrine Thomas, Virginia Beach, Va.; children and their spouses, J.D. and Donna Claytor, Del City, Tracie and Rex Osborne, Longview, Wash., Mike and Lisa Claytor, Fort Smith, Ark., Lee and Nan Claytor, Shawnee, David and Jamie Claytor, Asher, Cynthia and Donnie Wrigh, Larry and Rita Alexander and Smokey and Penny Tipton; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Effie Claytor.

Military rites will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson's Cemetery, Shawnee. Memorials may be made to the VFW.

Rosa Monks

Rosa Monks of Quinton died Saturday. She was 91.

She was born June 1, 1909, at Tucumcari, N.M., the daughter of Adam and Elizabeth (Cochran) Shaw. She moved as a child to the Kiamichi Mountains of Southeastern Oklahoma.

She attended school at Yanush. She was married to Ellsworth Andrew in 1926 at Yanush.

He preceded her in death in 1950. She married McKinley Monks in 1954 at Eufaula.

She was a lifelong homemaker and farm wife. She was a Christian.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sons, Andy and Wesley Monks; a daughter, Rose Sherwood; five sisters, Bertha O'Kelly, Linda Ward, Lillie Upton, Ethel Garza and Minnie Turner; and two brothers, Albert and Alton Shaw.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Juldeen and Charles Bohlar of Oklahoma City and Barbara and Jim Hawthorne of Oceanside, Calif.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Ellis and Mary Ann Monks of Polo, Mo., Loyd and Wanda Monks of Bowlegs, Troy and Irene Monks of Stigler, Sam and Marilyn Monks of Lawson, Mo., and Clay and Shirley Monks of Meeker; two brothers, Willie Shaw of Ceres, Calif., and John D. Shaw of Wilburton; 32 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Quinton United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Lee Mantooth and the Rev. Melvin Gray officiating. Burial will be at Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Black's Funeral Home, Eufaula.

Tonya Davis

Tonya Davis died Monday in Stroud. She was 45.

She was born Jan. 22, 1945, in Stroud, the daughter of Delbert and Francis (Belsner) Thornhill.

She was a resident of Paden and a homemaker. She married Cecil "Benny" Davis on June 15, 1973, in Stroud.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Francis Thornhill.

Survivors include her husband, Benny Davis of the home in Paden; three sons, Cecil Benny Davis Jr., Paden, Gregory Clay Davis, Paden, and Casey Lynn Davis, Paden; one granddaughter, Ashton Celeste Davis, Paden; one brother, Delbert Thornhill, Stroud; three sisters, Sue Mercer, Oklahoma City, Patty Clayton, Sand Springs, and Alberta Pearson, Bristow.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Paden Holiness Church with the Rev. Paul Heard officiating. Burial will follow in the Paden Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Juanita Lelah Herrier

Juanita Lelah Herrier of Seminole died Saturday at a Seminole hospital. She was 79.

She was born May 27, 1921, in Wynona, the daughter of Aaron Holden and Arva Ruth (McLin) Holden.

She moved to Seminole in 1979 from California. She married Clyde Herrier in 1946 in California.

He preceded her in death in October 1976. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Mary Ellen Youngblood; brother, Roger Holden.

Survivors include daughter, Clydette (Herrier) Prough of Cupertino, Calif.; sister, Ruth Gilbert of Mabank, Texas; and cousin and caretaker, Lucille Wheeler of Seminole.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Dysinger officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Monte Wayne Holland

Monte Wayne Holland Seminole died Sunday in Seminole County. He was 31.

He was born May 11, 1969, in Shawnee. He was the son of Chester Manuel Holland and Carolyn Sue (Jordan) Holland.

He was a lifelong Seminole County resident. He married Rebecca Ann Smith in 1994 in Seminole.

He was a rig operator for American Well Service. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1988.

Survivors include mother, Sue Holland and her friend Louie Cunningham of Seminole; father and stepmother, Chester and Opal Holland of Beaumont, Texas; wife, Becky Holland of Sigourney, Iowa; three daughters, Jessica Pierce of Odessa, Texas, and Haley Marie and Monica Ann Holland, both of Sigourney, Iowa; two brothers, Cevin Holland of Beaumont, Texas, and Scott Holland of Greenville, N.C.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Leo Floyd Ppool

Leo Floyd Ppool of Seminole died Sunday at a Seminole hospital. He was 74.

He was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Krebs, the son of William Alfred Ppool and Myrtle Tressie (Logsdon) Ppool.

He was reared in the Bowlegs area. He had been a Seminole resident since 1926, moving from Krebs.

He was disabled all of his life. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Seminole.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ed Ppool in 1995; three sisters, Lois McCord in 1986; Doris Ketchum in 1995 and Alice Neeley in 1991.

Survivors include two brothers, G.W. Ppool of Tulsa and C.L. "Pete" Ppool of Oklahoma City; one sister, Mattie Emma "Sis" Baumgardner of Moses Lake, Wash.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Swearingen Chapel with the Rev. Allen Wood officiating assisted by Bill Swain. Glover Mainard also will officiate. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Lois Lee (Summers) Wilkerson

Lois Lee (Summers) Wilkerson of Seminole died Saturday in Midwest City. She was 78.

She was born Jan. 13, 1922, the daughter of James "Jimmy" Gentry Summers and Jessie Lee (Dillard) Summers.

She was a longtime Seminole County resident.

She married Hershel W. Wilkerson on April 23, 1940, in Holdenville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1997.

She retired from Pioneer Nursing Home in 1985, and was a member of the First Church of God in Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hershel W. Wilkerson on Nov. 12, 1997; four brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley Elroy Wilkerson of Seminole, O.D. and Diana Wilkerson of Seminole and Jimmie and Wilberta Wilkerson of Shawnee; brother-in-law, Delbert Bullard of Shawnee; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Summers of Seminole and Sandra Costa of Manteca, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tom Harris and the Rev. Roger Brewer officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Devin Ray Miller

Devin Ray Miller of Chandler died Sunday in Sparks. He was 25.

He was born March 1, 1975, in Shawnee, the son of Delmer and Martha Sue (Devins) Miller.

Miller had worked at Bay's Grocery and Kinnamon's for a number of years.

He was a 1993 graduate of Chandler High School.

Miller was an active member of the Future Farmers of America.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Virgil and Ina Miller and Buster and Grace Devins.

Survivors include his mother and father, Delmer and Martha Sue Miller of Chandler; one brother and sister-in-law, Darren and BaLinda Miller of Clinton; one sister, Deidra Miller of Chandler; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Memorial School Auditorium in Chandler with the Rev. Bruce Newby officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to: the Devin Miller Memorial Fund at the First Bank of Chandler, 902 Manvel, Chandler, Okla. 74834.

Joseph Daniel Wallace

Joseph Daniel Wallace was stillborn Thursday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Joseph was the son of Mark and Chris (Allen) Wallace of Shawnee.

Mark Wallace is a captain with the Shawnee Fire Department, and Chris Wallace works as a receptionist at a BancFirst in Oklahoma City.

Joseph is survived by his parents; a sister, Gabby LaFerr of the home; grandparents, Charles Allen, McLoud; Gladys Sloan, Oklahoma City, and Anna Wallace, Shawnee; great-grandmothers, Daphine Allen, Saint Louis and Edith Wallace, Yukon; and many other relatives.

Private services are scheduled under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel of Shawnee.

Mary Louise Blevins

Mary Louise Blevins, 77, Thursday in Shreveport, La.

She was born Oct. 19, 1923, in Dewey, Okla., to Edward Everett and Stella (Hutchinson) Burget.

A teacher in the Oklahoma City and Guthrie School systems, she received her doctorate of education from Oklahoma State University.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Alfred Blevins, parents, three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include one son, Al Blevins of Guthrie; two daughters, Lynnette Metts of Shreveport, La., and Linda Liles of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Don Burget and Bill Burget, both of California; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Oak Park Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Blackwell will officiate; arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.
