Betty Hogue

Betty Hogue died Wednesday. The Harrah resident was 66.

She was born to John and Sue (Bridges) Penix in Pink on Aug. 23, 1934.

In 1953, she graduated from Shawnee High School. She married James Hogue in Erick, Okla., on April 6, 1956.

She retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Harrah.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; one son, George Hogue of Newalla; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and Fred Allie of Muskogee; Bridget and Gary Marotz of Texas and Sherri Hogue of Harrah; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Sammi Penix of California and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Harrah. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Newalla. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Sherlyn Sue Moore

Sherlyn Sue Moore, 60, died Thursday in Norman.

She was born on May 19, 1950, in Garden City, Kan., the daughter of Verneta M. and Thomas E. Jones. On Jan. 19, 1969, she married Charles Moore in Garden City, Kan.

Mrs. Moore was a horse trainer and had lived in the Konawa and Ada area for 15 years.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; her parents of Garden City, Kan.; one daughter, Kelly Gill of Sallisaw; one son and daughter-in-law, Bud and Amy Moore of Konawa; two sisters, Barbara Fief of Garden City, Kan. and Debby Wright of Garden City, Kan.; one granddaughter, Kacee Gill of Sallisaw and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Vamoosa Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Green will officiate, assisted by the Rev. LeRoy Sommers. Burial will follow at Lone Dove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home in Konawa.

Memorials may be made to the Grandchildren Education Fund in Memory of Sherlyn Moore at Pontotoc County Bank.

Erma Mae Cozens

Erma Mae Cozens of Norman died Wednesday. She was 51.

She was born March 2, 1949, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Elmer and Reba (Edwards) Dye.

Survivors include her husband, Allen, of the home; two sons, Robert Cozens and John Cozens, both of Norman; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Stacey Egelhoff, Oklahoma City; three brothers, Sonny Dye, McLoud, Danny Dye, Tecumseh, and Ricky Dye, Oklahoma City; sister, Rita Dallas, Midwest City; three grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Shady Nook Freewill Baptist Church, Nicoma Park. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Howard Lee Yancey

Lifelong Seminole County resident Howard Lee Yancey died Thursday at Seminole Medical Center. He was 51.

Yancey was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Seminole to Howard A. and Laura Mae (Brown) Yancey. On March 19, 1976, he married Angie Collums in Bowlegs.

He was a truck driver for Hays Trucking, Seminole, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his father, Howard A. Yancey, Bowlegs; wife, Angie Yancey, of the home; two daughters, Ashlee Cain and Angela Yancey, both of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolly Yancey, Oklahoma; Betty Lozer, Crane, Texas; Margaret McNeil, Shirley Castle, Judy and Kenny Roberts, Sheila and Buddy Gore and Patricia and John Whitham, all of Seminole; Dorothy and Al Marlow, Bowlegs; two grandchildren, Sadee Yancey and Jax Yancey, both of the home; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Clayce and David Moore, Leavenworth, Kan.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Brenda and Bruce Hood, Stigler; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; son, Howard L. Yancey Jr.; two sisters, Linda and Delores Yancey; and father-in-law, Clayton Ross Collums.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rick Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Clarence Clayton Turner

Longtime Seminole resident Clarence Clayton Turner died Thursday at Seminole Medical Center. He was 91.

He was born on Dec. 23, 1909, in Wayside, Okla., the son of A.C. and Margaret Jeanetta (Gahlar) Turner. He attended Garber Schools in Garber, Okla.

On Feb. 6, 1933, he married Essie Juanita Magruder.

He worked for Lane Wells Corp. until it was purchased by Dresser Atlas Corp. He retired in 1975 after 33 years of service.

Turner was a member of Freewill Baptist Church in Wolf, Okla.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Dean and Catherine Turner of Guthrie; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Ronnie Conner of Seminole; three grandchildren, Rick Conner of Seminole; Teri Smith of Edmond and Trace Conner of Seminole; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Allen Wood and the Rev. Robert Cocke will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Maxine Sullivan

Maxine Sullivan, 82, Shawnee, died Friday in a local hospital.

The daughter of Jesse Raymond Bradley and Ouida Madge (Rose) Parsons, she was born in Hominy, Okla., on Feb. 5, 1918.

She was a beauty operator and as a cashier for a concession stand for a Tulsa bank.

Preceding Mrs. Sullivan in death were her parents; one daughter, Kay Lynn Sullivan; one sister, Marlene Powell and one brother, Grover Carroll Parsons.

Survivors include one brother, Buck James of Tecumseh; three sisters, Erma Lee Moore of Tecumseh; Ouida Geraldine Washburn of Shawnee and Charlene Roberson of Seminole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park. The Rev. John Brooks will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Dr. Dee Pennington

Longtime Chandler dentist Dr. Dee Pennington, 89, died Friday.

Services are pending and will be announced by Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Neal A. Moyer

Longtime Seminole resident Neal A. Moyer died Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 74.

He was born June 29, 1924, in Oklahoma City to Raymond Hubert and Pauline (Judkins) Moyer. He lived most of his life in Seminole. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe from 1943 to 1945.

He married Anna Bell Anthony in Letha on Dec. 24, 1941, and retired from Sun Oil Co. after 42 years of service. He was a member of Seminole First Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason.

Preceding him in death were his father; a son, Neal R. Moyer, and grandson, J.T. Moyer.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Bell Moyer, of the home; his mother, Pauline Moyer, Ponca City; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Andy Moyer, Seminole; sister, Barbara Ennis, Ponca City; six grandchildren, Blaine, Rebecca, Brandon, Russell, Pat and Bob, 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel, Seminole, with the Rev. Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Theo M. Eastep

Theo Marie "Speedy" Eastep died Friday at her Paden residence. She was 70.

She was born July 20, 1928, in Paden, the daughter of John Wesley and Audry Samantha (Doyle) Lee. She lived in the Paden area all her life and was a member of Paden Holiness Church. She married Raymond Wilburn Eastep on Nov. 23, 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1969.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and one son, Raymond Eastep Jr.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Ernie and Lisa Eastep, Prague; Tommy Lee and Karla Eastep, Amber; daughter, Shirl Rae Eastep, Shawnee; adopted son, John and Karen Grossman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doyle and Ella Mae Lee, Gene and Adabell Lee, John and Geneva Lee, Dean and Cheryl Ann Lee, Bill and Josie Lee, all of Paden; Jimmy and Juanita Lee, Prague; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Jerry Hause, Seminole; Charlie Mae and Claude Hutchinson, Harrah; Clara Faye and Paul White, Linda and Charles O. Allen, all of Paden; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Rachelle Eastep, Norman; Clint, Crystal and Tommy Raymond Jr., all of Amber; Jonathan and Allison Grossman, Paden, and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Prague. Burial will be at Paden Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

Luella (Downing) Savage

Longtime Shawnee resident Luella (Downing) Savage died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was 92.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. F.S. Scott officiating. Burial will be at Lima Cemetery under the direction of Keller Funeral Home of Wewoka.

She was born March 12, 1906, in Seminole County and had lived most of her adult life in Shawnee. She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.

She was married to Spoun Savage, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, John Gus Savage, of Oklahoma City, and three grandchildren.

Clyde Wilton Cooper Sr.

Okemah resident Clyde Wilton Cooper Sr. died Thursday at his home. He was 72.

Cooper was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Archer County, Texas, to Bert Albert Cooper and Louise Lowack. He married Lois Lavada Blevins in September of 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a retired oilfield worker. He was of the First Christian Church faith and had lived in the Seminole County area for the past 28 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lois L., of the home; two sons, Clyde Wilton Cooper Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.; Jackie Wade Cooper; one daughter, Ginger M. Freel, Oklahoma City; four brothers, Ed Cooper, Olney, Texas; Marvin T. Cooper, Archer City, Texas; Don Cooper, Seminole; Jerry Wayne Cooper, Byers, Texas; one sister, Patsy Clark, Wichita Falls, Texas; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Lunn Funeral Home Chapel, Olney, Texas, with Darrell Blevins and Brian Quisenberry officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery. Local arrangements were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Lillie L. Duncan

Lillie L. Duncan died Friday at a local nursing home. She was 92.

Mrs. Duncan was born Jan. 18, 1906, at McAlester to John Thomas Landers and Anna Victoria Ingold. She married Albert Ray Duncan on July 13, 1926, in Memphis, Tenn.

Mrs. Duncan moved to the Sunrise area with her family in 1910 and to Okemah in 1950. She was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Ann Young, Okemah; Beverly Kay Breedlove, Kansas City, Mo.; brother, Virgil Landers, Okemah; her twin sister, Lillian Shoupe, Okemah; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 11, 1957; her son, Tommy Duncan; and one brother, John Landers.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Townley officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Violet Jean Veitenheimer

Sacred Heart native and Citizen Potawatomi tribal member Violet Jean Veitenheimer, 76, died Sunday in Oklahoma City.

Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Hisako Veitenheimer of Monterey, Calif.; sister-in-law, Ruth Veitenheimer of Shawnee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Massoth, O.S.B., officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Caskets Inc., Del City.

Mikki Park

Mikki Park died Thursday. She was 54.

She was born June 17, 1945, in Ada, Okla., to Robert and Rose Marie Rogers.

She was reared in Ada and Shawnee and attended Shawnee schools. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Ray Park; and two nephews, Robby Rogers and Caleb Franklin.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Charles Purvis, Wewoka; fiance, Bob Heltzel, Tecumseh; brothers, Jim and Delbert Rogers and their wives, all of Shawnee; sisters, Loraine Newell, Wylie, Texas, and Darlene Rogers, Shawnee; stepdaughter, Debbie Robinson, Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren, Kenneth and Austin Purvis, Wewoka, and Jordyn Wehrenberg, Grapevine, Texas; special friends, Sharon and Jack Wescott; and several nieces, nephews and others.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Little Cemetery, Seminole, with the Rev. Johnny Chesser officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
