Imogene Strayhorn

Imogene Strayhorn died Friday in Davenport. She was 67.

She was the daughter of Delmar and Etta (Seaton) Springfield.

She married B.L. (Arkie) Strayhorn in Springfield, Ill., on May 13, 1976.

She was a homemaker and mother. She was a resident of Davenport most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Davenport and Eastern Star of Stroud.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Pierce, her parents, and one brother, Charles Springfield.

Survivors include her husband, B.L. (Arkie) Strayhorn of the home; two sons, Donald R. Pierce, Maud, and Tommy G. Pierce, Okmulgee; one daughter, Janice L. Tipton, Prague; 12 grandchildren, Gena Lynn Neal, Justin Don Pierce, Tommy Lee Pierce, Jerade W. Tipton, Brandon H. Tipton, Kari Jean Pierce, Paul Pierce, William Don Pierce, Larry Watkins, Laranda Skaggs, John Thomas Petray and Bradley Petray.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Davenport with the Rev. Mike Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Davenport Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud.

Charlie Butler

Charlie Butler died Thursday at a McLoud nursing home. He was 86.

He was born Sept. 4, 1913, in Paden to John and Emma Butler.

He had lived in Dale since 1936. He married Leona Haislip on May 29, 1940, in Shawnee. He retired from ONG in 1972.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Leona Butler of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Floyd and Linda Butler, McLoud, Johnny Butler, McLoud, and Bobby and Pam Butler, Dale; two granddaughters, one grandson, eight great-grandchildren and one brother, Archie "Dubie" Butler, Bristow.

Graveside services will be 4 p.m. today at the Dale Cemetery with Ricky Ramsey officiating. Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel will be in charge of the service.

Justine Libby Carter Whitebead

Justine Libby Carter Whitebead died Thursday at her home near Hinton, Okla. She was 65.

She was born June 23, 1934, to Raymond and Della (Lasley) Harjo in Pawnee, Okla.

She married Ray Whitebead Nov. 6, 1958, in Wichita, Kan.

She was a resident of the Cedar Lake area for 28 years.

She was employed at the Cherokee Restaurant and at the Biscuit Hill Restaurant for several years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hinton and the Sac and Fox Tribe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Della (Lasley) Harjo and her husband, Ray Whitebead.

She is survived by her six children, Romona Rico, Oklahoma City, Eugene Harjo and his wife Marilyn, Dallas Texas, Sammy Whitebead and his wife Laura, Calumet, Okla., Renee Whitebead, Oklahoma City, Denice Whitebead, Hinton, and Joseph Whitebead, Hinton; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Levi Coody, Meeker; and one sister, Joyce Wolf, Meeker.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Indian Baptist Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. Eugene Harjo officiating. Burial will be at Wakolee Cemetery in Meeker, under the direction of the Turner Funeral Home, Hinton.

Vickie Denise McKinzie

Vickie Denise McKinzie died Wednesday at her home in McLoud. She was 45.

She was born Aug. 2, 1954, in Chandler. She was the daughter of Curtis and Jeannie (Thary) Phipps.

She married Brent McKinzie on Aug. 24, 1994, in Ardmore.

She was a homemaker and attended the Living Water Tabernacle Church in Meeker.

She was preceded in death by one daughter.

Survivors include her husband, Brent McKinzie of the home; two daughters, Heather Carpenter, McLoud, and Tiffany Carpenter, McLoud; parents, Curtis and Jeannie Phipps, Davenport; two brothers, Curtis Phipps, Chandler, and Tom Phipps, Chandler; four sisters, Rita Brashears, Stroud, Judy Brown, Davenport, Betty Childress, Shawnee, and Sonja Ward, Okemah; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at Living Waters Tabernacle Church in Meeker with Pastor Donna Morton and Elder Johnny Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Shawnee under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Chandler.

Elsie Harbour Jenkins Cowan

Former area resident Elsie Harbour Jenkins Cowan died Monday in Oklahoma City at the age of 86.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with burial at Tecumseh Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Cowan will officiate.

She was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Olive Hill, Tenn., the daughter of Robert Elisah Samuel Anderson Harbour and Alice Tennessee Beckham Harbour.

She moved to the Tecumseh area as a child and attended school at Arkansas Flat. She graduated from Tecumseh High School and she also had lived in Shawnee and Lawton.

She married John Jenkins in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1956.

She married Kenneth Cowan in 1983 and he preceded her in death in 1995.

She was a nurse at Colonial Estates nursing home and retired in 1975.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Lee Roberts, Alice "Tudd" Rader, Deana Carter, Osie Tuggle, and Jennie Phillips, and a brother, Jim Harbour.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Alex Hernandez, Oklahoma City; Nancy and Danny Hill, Comanche; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Vi Cowan, Bethany; Eugene and Beth Cowan, Lawton; Newt and Barbara Jenkins, Oklahoma City; 19 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Christopher Allen Boyer

Christopher Allen Boyer, 11, died Monday at his home in Shawnee.

He was born Oct. 19, 1990, in Norfolk, Va., and was the son of Charles and Nancy Boyer of Shawnee and John Henry and Janet Quick of Gober, Texas.

Boyer attended Will Rogers Elementary School in Shawnee.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Alex Boyer, of the home and Daniel and Jeanine Newell, Shawnee; one sister and brother-in-law, Rachael and Michael Harrison, Shawnee; grandparents, Patricia Harris, Gober, Texas, Elmo and Pearl Lewis, Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Carl and Edna Briggs, Bethal Acres; three nieces; one nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Praise Assembly of God Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. T.A. Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Gaskell-Owens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family has designated the Lymphoma Society of Oklahoma, 3616 NW 56th, Suite 230, Oklahoma City, OK 73112 and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma, 3030 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73112 as appropriate for memorials.

Leo Ledbetter

Former Shawnee resident Leo "Blackie" Ledbetter of Sulphur died Monday at a Sulphur hospital. He was 73.

He was born March 11, 1928, in Duke, Okla., to Robert and Dora (Powers) Ledbetter.

Ledbetter was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as an aircraft electrician at Tinker Air Force Base until his 1979 retirement after 27 years of service.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of McLoud, an active member of Free Life AA organization, Shawnee, and was a member of the American Legion Post 0065 in Ardmore.

Preceding him in death were her mother, father, two sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jim Ethridge, Whitesboro, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Beverly Ledbetter, Shawnee; two grandchildren, Tori Ledbetter of McLoud and Derek Ethridge of Whitesboro, Texas; and a sister, Opal Spradlin, Altus.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Emma Jean Lewis

Emma Jean Lewis, 73, died Saturday at her Shawnee home.

Wake will be 7 p.m. Thursday at First Indian Baptist Church of Shawnee. Service will be at the church at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Billy S. Jones officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

David Earl Johnson

David Earl Johnson, 65, of Arlington, Texas, died Sunday at a Texas hospital.

He was born Jan. 15, 1937, in Prague to Ezra Johnson and Grace (Davis) Johnson. He attended Prague High School and later graduated from Oklahoma State University. He played trumpet for the OSU band.

He was employed as a quality controller at Northern Telecom.

Johnson married Lenora Martin on Feb. 12, 1974, in Arlington. He served in the U.S. Army.

Johnson had lived in Arlington for 28 years.

Surviving are his wife, Lenora Johnson of the home; his mother Grace Johnson, Shawnee; father Ezra Johnson, Shawnee; son Timothy Johnson of Arlington; daughter Elizabeth Rosenberry of Galesburg, Ill.; five grandchildren, Robert Johnson, Stephany Mohr, Sarah Mohr, Charis Mohr, Josiah Rosenberry and Naomi Rosenberry; one great-grandchildren, Cameron Anderson; sister, Leann Chamberlain, Fort Smith, Ark.; two stepchildren, Michael Correll of Indiana and Maylou Correll of Fort Worth, Texas; three stepgrandchildren; one nephew; and two nieces.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Kresten Norholm and the Rev. Tom Harrison officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Harvey Jones Sr.

Harvey "Earl" Jones Sr., 79, Maud, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 79.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church, Maud, with the Rev. Roger Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home.

Jones was born March 10, 1919, in Shawnee to Harvey Earl Jones and Florence Belle (Young) Jones. He married Lois Marcell Eubanks on April 1, 1941, in Pauls Valley.

He worked for Troxell Auto Parts in Shawnee and later worked as a pumper for Joe Sharver and John Patterson until retiring in 1995.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Tecumseh.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Marcell Jones, of the home; son, Harvey Earl Jones Jr., of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Dale and Dianne Jones, Bethel Acres; sister and brother-in-law, Lula Faith and Lott Davis, Shawnee; sister, Oooleta "Lea" Miles, Porum; grandchildren, Thomas Dale Jr. and Lisa Jones, both of Fort Walden Beach, Fla.; Bari and Roy Holmes, both of Shawnee; four great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Billie Dean Brooks in 1997.

Edna Mae Cook

Tecumseh resident Edna Mae Cook died Friday at a local nursing home. She was 91.

Mrs. Cook was born April 10, 1907, in Cromwell to Charles and Alice (Harper) Jones. She married Oley Cook Sr. in 1923 in Shawnee.

She attended Shawnee schools and moved in 1939 to Tecumseh, where she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She worked for Harps and Douglas Aircraft and was a life-long member of the Tecumseh Roundup Club.

Survivors include her son, Oley Cook Jr., Tecumseh; three granddaughters and their spouses, Janet and Jerry Hickox, Deborah and Johnnie Anderson, all of Tecumseh; Susie Cook, Texas; three grandsons and their spouses, Bob and Connie Cook and Buck and Paula Cook, all of Tulsa; Steve and Retha Cook, Hilton, Okla.; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oley Cook Sr.; her son, Willard E. Cook; three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with Bill Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
