Mary E. Kokenge

Shawnee native Mary Kokenge, 82, died Wednesday.

She was born Sept. 22, 1919, in Shawnee to George L. and Leona (Ramsey) Timmons.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Moore.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dalene and Leland Nelson of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, Dorothy Timmons of Oklahoma City; granddaughter and husband, Natalie and Juan Velasco; great-grandchildren, Juan F. Velasco and Gabriel Velasco; nephews, George E. Cameron, Allan W. Cameron, Dewayne Brown and Edward Brown; nieces, Gloria F. Davis, Sherri Wood, Vicki Morrison and Denese and Delores J. Griffith of Shawnee.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday at the South Colonial Chapel of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary. Burial followed in Resthaven Cemetery of Oklahoma City.

Arrangements were under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary.

JoDella Newcomb

Chandler resident JoDella (Sirmons) Newcomb died Sunday at her home. She was 63.

Mrs. Newcomb was born Feb. 22, 1936, in Lone Grove to Benjamin Sirmons and Josephine (Pierce) Sirmons. She married Jerry Dean Newcomb on June 7, 1951, in Altus.

She was a homemaker and member of First Assembly of God in Chandler. She had lived in Chandler for the past 10 years.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Newcomb of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Celeste Newcomb, Broken Arrow; Ben and Shirley Newcomb, Chandler; son, Larry Newcomb, Chandler; two brothers, A.J. Sirmons, Agra; Velton Sirmons, Granite; sister, Nathalia Burnett, Nacoma, Texas; three grandchildren, Lance Newcomb, Travis Newcomb and Mark Newcomb; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God, Chandler, with the Rev. Doyle Seeley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

LaJoy Moore

Asher resident LaJoy Moore died Monday at her home. She was 73.

Mrs. Moore was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Milburn, Okla. to Lee and Bertha Deaton. She married J.D. Moore on Feb. 17, 1960, at Pontotoc County near Ada.

She was raised in Tishomingo and Shawnee and had lived in Asher for 30 years.

Survivors include her husband, J.D. Moore, of the home; two sons, Berry L. Heath, Edmond; Jerrell Heath, Kingston; two stepchildren, Gary Moore, Norman; Linda McNair, Alpena, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and brother, Jerry D. Deaton, Ozark, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Moss officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

DeLana M. Reed

Choctaw resident DeLana M. Reed died Friday. She was 65.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Chapel, Oklahoma City.

Paula Dianne Sanders

Konawa resident Paula Dianne Sanders died Sunday in Ada. She was 36.

Mrs. Sanders was born May 29, 1963, in Oklahoma City to Fern and Paul Turnbow. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her mother, Fern Turnbow, Konawa; father, Paul Turnbow, Konawa; three daughters, Lacy Hudson, Maud; Fantasia Sanders and Brittany Tedford, both of the home.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Misty Gale Hudson.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Mt. Zion Church with Ed George officiating. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home.

Bertha Mae Musgrove

Newalla resident Bertha Mae "Birdie" Musgrove died Saturday. She was 92.

Mrs. Musgrove was born Feb. 20, 1907, in Post, Texas to Edgar and Mary Mae (Sparks) Johnson. She married Rutherford Jones "Pat" Musgrove on Oct. 6, 1923, in Oklahoma City. She was known to her family as "Mamo."

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donald Gerald and Arlene Musgrove, Harrah; daughter, Delores Loraine Grider, Oklahoma City; brother, Bill Johnson; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; niece, Nancy Weaver; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 3 p.m. today at The First Baptist Church of Newalla. Burial will be at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Newalla, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Mary Christina Myers

Tecumseh resident Mary Christina Myers died Saturday in Norman. She was 76.

Mrs. Myers was born April 4, 1923, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Hartwell LaFayette and Mary Henrietta (Womach) Price. She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1943.

She married Raymond Dee Myers Sr. Oct. 29, 1946, in Sulphur. She had lived in Tecumseh the past 44 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tecumseh.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Rae Myers, Tecumseh; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Sharon Myers, Purcell; sister, Betty Jo Davis, Little Rock, Ark.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband on July 29, 1973; her parents, one son, Raymond Dee Myers Jr.; grandson, Raymond Dee Myers III; and granddaughter, Anita Gail O'Neal.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Tecumseh, with the Rev. Duane Elmore officiating. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

J.C. Meek

Former Holdenville resident J.C. Meek of Norman died Saturday. He was 79.

Meek was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Hanna, Okla. to John Henry Meek and Minnie Bell Taylor.

He was a district manager for OG&E and was a member of the Westside Church of Christ in Norman.

He was an All-American quarterback at East Texas State University and was also a golden-glove boxer who boxed in the finals of the golden-glove boxing in his weight division.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Stanley Jay and Gina Meek, Norman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Gary Stillson, Prague; Sandi Lea and Tom Byerly, Sand Springs; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Jim and John Meek, both of Shawnee; three sisters, Geraldine Mitchell, Coopers Cove, Texas; Ellen James, Dewey; Louise Loftis, South Carolina; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Shawn Ray Meek.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel, Moore.

Grace Margaret Watson

Grace Margaret Watson died Saturday in Slatington, Pa. She was 95.

She was born May 21, 1904, in Tecumseh, Indian Territory. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Susan (Perkins) Bridges.

Watson graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1922. She was a homemaker.

She married Calvin Watson who preceded her in death in March 1998.

Watson was a past worthy matron and member of Murrow Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Garden Club, St. Paul's Methodist Church and a Cub Scout den mother. She had lived in Shawnee for 67 years.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, two brothers, one sister and one grandson.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James Frank Watson and his wife Mary Joann "Jody" Watson, Fayetteville, N.C.; William Calvin (Bill) Watson Jr. and his wife Betty Lou Watson, Slatington, Pa.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Clewell officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Edna Lee Pevehouse

Edna Lee Pevehouse died Saturday in Prague. She was 93.

She was born Dec. 20, 1906, in Pierce, Indian Territory. She was the daughter of John Franklin and Nancy Rowena (Bradford) Tillman.

She married Wiley Otis Pevehouse April 15, 1926, in Okemah. He preceded her in death Jan. 31, 1960.

Mrs. Pevehouse was a resident of the Prague area for 80 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star. She last worked as a nurse's aide at the Prague Hospital from 1960 to 1969.

She also was preceded in death by three children, Juanita Martin, Wiley O. Pevehouse Jr. and Doyle Ray Pevehouse; three brothers; four sisters; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include her sisters, Louise Purcell, Yukon, and Lois Rawls, California; four grandchildren and their spouses, Brenda and Ken Corder, Edmond, Nina Hayes, Edmond, Lisa Ferguson, and David Brian and Kelly Pevehouse; nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow in Prague Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Leo Vernon Kenneda

Leo Vernon Kenneda died Sunday at the Muskogee VA hospital. He was 79.

He was born July 11, 1920, in Okfuskee County. He was the son of Ezra L. Kenneda and Olah (Simmons) Kenneda.

He married Francis Aliene Duke Dec. 21, 1941, in Okemah.

He was a lifelong resident of Okfuskee County and a retired mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army.

Kenneda was preceded in death by one son, Roy Kenneda in 1986, and his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Francis Kenneda, of the home in Okemah; brother, Earl Kenneda, Okemah; and three grandchildren, Francis LeAnne Kenneda, Sherene Orr and Sherry Middien.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah with the Rev. Carl Clay officiating. Burial will be in Morse Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Jack Witt Garrett

Former Shawnee resident Jack Witt Garrett died Thursday in Oklahoma City. He was 93.

Garrett was born Feb. 22, 1906, in Campville, Fla., the son of Alva and Minnie Garrett.

Survivors include three granddaughters, Judith M. Patrick, Atlanta, Ga.; Sherry K. Payne, Claremore; and Suzy Valle, Reno, Nev.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Quail Springs United Methodist Church at Epworth Villa, 14617 N. Pennsylvania, Oklahoma City, under the direction of Branstetter-Rosewood Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.
