Otis Armistead

Otis Armistead died Thursday in Tulsa. He was 80.

He was born May 1, 1919, in Chandler. He was the son of Earnest and Mattie (Maxwell) Armistead. He had lived in the Chandler area all his life and attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Surviving is a brother, Wallace A. Armistead of Chandler.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Clearview Cemetery in Chandler with the Rev. Steve Riley officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

Randolph Miller

Randolph Miller of Harrah died Wednesday at a Midwest City hospital. He was 72.

He was born July 10, 1926, in Harrah to John Marshall Miller and Lessie Pearl (Nelson) Miller. He was retired from Tinker Air Force Base and had served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II.

His son, Kenneth Miller, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Olive of Harrah; children, Shirley L. Miranda of Yukon, Larry R. Miller of New Mexico, Mona Lee Wallace of Porum, Okla., Deborah Selling of Mustang, Randy Marshall Miller of Choctaw, Libby Perry of Texas and Terry Miller of Choctaw; his sisters, Bernice Beatty, Florence McVey and Velma Eckert; a step-daughter Rosetta Blair; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Choctaw Church of Christ with Mike Mazzalongo officiating. Burial is at Memory Lane Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Benjamin W. Jones

Shawnee resident Cmdr. Benjamin W. Jones died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 76.

Jones was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Park Hill, Okla., to Benjamin F. and Gulielma Jones. He married Minnie Mae Sixkiller on Dec. 24, 1946, in Columbus, Kan.

He was reared in Park Hill and Tahlequah and had lived in Shawnee since 1975. He served in World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam and retired from the United States Navy on Jan. 1, 1974. He was a member of the Elks Club and Retired Officers Association.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Jones of the home; sisters, Jane M. Griffin, Tahlequah, and Helen A. Brandt, Austin, Texas; brothers-in-law, Bob Sixkiller, Siloam Springs, Ark., and J.L. Sixkiller, Tulsa; sister-in-law, Barbara Clark, Watts; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Robert Jones; and two sisters, Louise Stevenson Noss and Sarah Frances Abel.

Graveside services with military honors will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Lt. Cmdr. Gary Bell, U.S. Navy chaplain officiating.

Oletta Inez Leba

Oleta Inez Leba of Moore died Saturday. She was 81.

She was born Nov. 25, 1917, to Isabelle Warland and Ole Heggen in Cottonwood County, Minn.

She was a member of the Council Road Baptist Church.

Her husband, B. Kenneth Leba, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Debbie Leba of Moore; grandson, Jacob Jack Daniel Leba of Asher; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Angela LaNell and Mike Hartsfield of Wapanucka, Okla.; two great-grandchildren Makaylah Jordan and Mikah Hartsfield of Wapanucka, Okla.; sister Ester Weaver of Jefferson, Iowa; sister-in-law, Margaret Weaver of Jefferson, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home of Moore.

Maxine Unice Massey

Maud resident Maxine Unice (Gilliam) Massey died Wednesday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 80.

Mrs. Massey was born Jan. 2, 1919, in Blackwater, Va. to James and Martha Jane (Roller) Gilliam. She graduated from Chandler High School in 1938.

She worked as an electronic assembly person for Ultrox in Grand Junction, Colo., and retired after 25 years. She moved to Maud in 1988 from Grand Junction, Colo.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Jerry Peavler, St. Louis, Okla., and Patricia and Kenneth Unger, Fountain Valley, Calif.; three sons, Mike Massey and Ken Massey, Maud, and Joe Massey, Sheridan, Mont.; brother, Harold Gilliam, Chandler; sisters, Ann Cook, Silver City, N.M., and Eula Vennarucci, South San Francisco, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ornen, Roy and Everett; sisters, Bertha, Beuna and Monnie; and her former husband, Ernest George Massey on Dec. 31, 1995.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Rossville Cemetery (4 miles north of SH 62 and U.S. Highway 177 junction) under the direction of Knight Funeral Home of Maud with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Calvin D. Button

Calvin D. Button of McLoud died Thursday in a local hospital. He was 76.

He was born June 23, 1922, in Hurricane, Utah, to Justin and Annie Button. He was reared in southern Utah and was a furniture maker.

He married Berchie Lee Clagg on April 2, 1945, in Moore, Okla. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Shawnee.

He had lived in McLoud for the past 16 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, three sisters and one grandchild.

Surviving are his wife, Berchie Button of the home; a son, Calvin Lee Button of McLoud; three daughters, Kathy Maier of Conroe, Texas, Laurel Mitchell of Midwest City, Okla., and Melissa Wilson of Pampa, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Larett and Verl.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Shawnee. Burial will be at Little Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Vida Ann Brewer

Vida Ann Brewer, Carney, died Thursday in Cushing at the age of 96.

The daughter of William and Alice (Upshaw) Hinkle was born April 16, 1904, in Pocahontas, Ark. She married Alfred Dewey Brewer Dec. 22, 1924, in Chandler.

The longtime Carney resident, a homemaker, was a member of First Baptist Church, Carney.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, one daughter, one granddaughter, three sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include two brothers, Tracy Hinkle of Stillwater and Charles Hinkle of Guthrie, one granddaughter and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Carney, with the Rev. Joe Merrill officiating. Burial will follow at Carney Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

M.H. Woodard

Former Davenport resident M.H. Woodard, Tulsa, died Thursday in Tulsa at the age of 80.

Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler.

Monroe Moody

Shawnee resident Monroe Moody died Thursday in Midwest City. He was 66.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Downtown Pentecostal Holiness Church, Shawnee. The Rev. Ron Baldridge will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.

Other information is pending with Cooper Funeral Home.

Madelyne Harelson

Madelyne Harelson died Tuesday in Okemah. She was 82.

Mrs. Harelson was born Jan. 23, 1918, at Almartha, Mo., to Harley Ross and Lena (Porter) Ross. She married Richard Franklin "Frank" Harelson Dec. 24, 1936 in Belen, N.M.

She moved to Okfuskee County in 1950 and was a seamstress and homemaker. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Okemah.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Glenda Harleson, Longview, Texas; John and Sherry Harelson, Okemah; daughter, Lenna Kordis, Noble; three sisters, Catherine Ahl, Bakersfield, Calif.; Dorothy Faulkner, Kilgore, Texas; Ruth Thomas, Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Lena Ross; husband, Frank Harelson in 1990; two brothers, Elwood Ross; and J.E. "Ralph" Ross.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Steve Lowrance officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.

Rick R. Paulk

Shawnee resident Rick R. "Nik" Paulk died Monday at Oklahoma City. He was 48.

Paulk was born June 1, 1951, in Oklahoma City to Bobby and Dorothy (Rowan) Paulk Sr. He graduated from Memorial High School in Joplin, Mo. He had lived in Dale for the past seven years.

On July 28, 1990, he married Mary E. Hobia in Oklahoma City. He was a machinist for the oil field industry and was recently a custodian for McLoud Schools. In the mid 1980s he owned a deli in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Beth Paulk, of the home; granddaughter, Christina Hobia, of the home; son, Shane Paulk, Joplin, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law, Cory and Shelly Paulk, Joplin; stepson and his spouse, Paul and Marla Hobia, Seminole; stepdaughters, Valerie Hobia, and Brandie and her husband, James Zientek, all of Shawnee; mother and stepfather, Gail and Dorothy DuShane, Joplin; father, Bob Paulk Sr., Galena, Kan.; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Sherry Paulk Jr., Cabool, Mo.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Becky and Robert Nutting, Oklahoma City; Debbie and Cary Legg, Prague; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Stephens of Twin Lakes Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Cemetery.

T.E. Conley Jr.

T.E. "Slug" Conley Jr., Shawnee, died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 72.

Conley was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Wanette, the son of Torence E. and Lona (Hutchison) Conley.

He attended Wanette schools.

He married Edra Beets on Dec. 10, 1957, in Ada.

Conley worked in construction and the oil field. He later worked for Pottawatomie County District No. 3 before his retirement.

He moved to Shawnee from the Wanette area in 1999.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Beason and Nema Williams; and a brother, Ralph Conley.

Survivors include his wife, Edra Conley, of the home; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Burton, Shawnee; Bonnie and Bill Walker, Guymon; Barbara and Otis Vanderpool, Wichita, Kan.; Sue and Herbert Melot, Shawnee; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Delbert and Dorothy Conley, Shawnee; E.P. and LaVern Conley, Shawnee; Eugene and Shirley Conley, Plano, Texas; three brothers-in-law and their spouses, Larry and Pat Beets, Tecumseh; Dale and Bobbie Beets, Wanette; Terry and Mary Wells, Norman; a number of nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee, with the Rev. Archie Beller officiating.

Burial will be in Wanette Cemetery, under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
