Arthur Eugene Carter

Arthur Eugene Carter of Corvallis, Ore., died at the age of 69.

Carter was born July 5, 1930, in Shawnee to Zollie "B.B." Knight and Anna Mary Klause Carter. He married Carmen Jean Carter on Oct. 22, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nev.

He graduated from Saint Benedict's High School in Shawnee in May of 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy June 1, 1948, and served in Saipan, Japan, the Philippines and in California, Hawaii and Florida.

From 1950-53, he participated in the invasion of Inchon, Korea and the evacuation of Chosen Reservoir. In 1966-67, he was in Vietnam with the MCB4 Seabee Battalion north of Danang.

In February 1968, he moved to the Philippines and was stationed at U.S. Naval Station Sangley Point where he and his wife worked on the admiral's staff. In 1970, he was stationed in Pensacola, Fla., at U.S. Naval Air Station Saufley Field.

After 23 years in the service, he retired as a chief yeoman Dec. 31, 1971. He enrolled at Oregon State University in 1973. In June 1976, he began working for OSU Security until he retired in June 1991.

He was a member of American Legion, Disabled Veterans of America, Saint Mary's Church Corvallis.

Survivors include his wife, Carmen Jean Acosta Carter; daughters, Patricia J. Brauner, Portland, Ore.; Emily S. Biesemeyer, Anchorage, Alaska; Denise R. Carter, Corvallis, Ore.; grandchildren, Ryan Sean Lunsford, Casey John Lunsford and Nicole Louise Lunsford, all of Anchorage; brothers, Walter Girty, Shawnee; Ross Carter, Wauwatosa, Wis.; sister, Toni Jacobs, Shawnee; Joy Cowan, Cement.

He was preceded in death by his father, Zollie Knight on June 18, 1985; his mother, Anna Mary Klause Carter, on Sept. 6, 1989; and brother, Billy Bob Knight in 1995.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 4 p.m. today at McHenry Funeral Home, Corvallis, Ore. Memorial mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Corvallis, with Bishop Kenneth Steiner officiating. Private burial will be Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Catholic Church in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 NW Fifth St., Corvallis, Ore., 97330.

Reva S. Martin

Reva S. Martin died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. She was 80.

She was born Dec. 26, 1919, in Carney. She was the daughter of Noah and Della (Sadler) Hackworth.

She had lived in the Chandler area since moving here in 1994. Martin was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Carney.

She married Leonard Martin on Jan. 30, 1927, in Shawnee. He preceded her in death in 1994.

Others preceding her in death were her parents and one sister, Ruth.

Survivors include three sons and wives, Don and Barbara Martin of Shawnee; Jimmie and Paula Martin of Stillwater; Paul and Sue Martin of Chandler; two brothers, Donald Hackworth of Chandler; Hanford Hackworth of Carney; three sisters, Ina Bolin of Mt. Ida Ark.; Lena Gullick of Stillwater; Pauline Tyler of Chandler; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church of Carney, with the Rev. Doyle Seeley and the Rev. Bo Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow at the Carney Cemetery, under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.

Charlie Wolfe

Former Tecumseh resident Charlie Wolfe died April 4. He was 77.

Wolfe was born March 3, 1923, in the Tecumseh and Skaggs City area.

He was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Eidson Wolfe; a grandson; a great-grandson; his parents, Charlie and Minnie (Cook) Wolfe; two brothers, Dave and Lewis; and three sisters, Della, Essie and Mary.

Survivors include his son, Larry; three daughters and their spouses, Joy, Coleen and Charlene; a brother, Tom Wolfe, Bethesda, Md.; two sisters, Geneva Cook Moorhead, Fort Worth, Texas; Jessie Wheeler, formerly of Tecumseh, now of Canton, Texas; several nieces and nephews, including Bonnie Taylor, Tecumseh; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were held on April 6 with the Rev. Craig Eidson and the American Legion officiating.

Burial was in Midwest City, under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel of Moore.

Anthony L. Morrel

Services for Anthony L. Morrel, infant son of Sandy Peters, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Further arrangements are pending and will be announced.

Virginia Rowell

Virginia Rowell of Tecumseh died Monday. She was 75.

She was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Keystone, Okla., to Barton and Tulya (Hollingsworth) McPherson and attended school in Keystone.

She was reared in Keystone and lived in Tecumseh since 1950.

She married T.H. "Penny" Rowell on Nov. 27, 1937. She was a prominent business woman in Tecumseh for many years, owning and operating Virginia's Apartments, Virginia's Beauty Shop and Rowell's Grocery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband on May 27, 1968.

Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Rowell of Tecumseh; Betty Hester of Ardmore; three grandchildren, Mark, David, and Debra; two great-grandsons, Cody Hester and Dalton Tucker; a sister, Mary Seay; a brother, Raymond McPherson, and nephew Darrell Ledbetter of California.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harry Ford officiating. Burial is at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Bessie Anita McClain Hill

Bessie Anita McClain Hill of Celina, Texas, died Monday at a McKinney, Texas, hospital. She was 99.

She was born Dec. 11, 1899, in Oklahoma to the late Thomas and Inez Rodd Little. She was married to J. Glenn McClain and Tony Hill. Both preceded her in death.

She was a Baptist and was a retired secretary. She was one-fourth Potawatomi Indian and lived in Tecumseh from 1974 to 1990 and was an active member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation in Shawnee.

Surviving are two daughters, Patsy Woodard of McKinney, Texas; Neva Ruth Maulden of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Viola Jines of Shawnee and Doll Barnes of Houston, Texas.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Dustin Cemetery in Dustin, Oklahoma with the Rev. Bob Shoemake officiating under the direction of Cantrell Funeral Home of Frisco.

George H. Elmore

George H. Elmore died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 70.

He was born Feb. 13, 1929, in Pharoah, Okla., the son of Pete Elmore and Buelah Houch Elmore. On Dec. 11, 1947, he married Pauline Baker in Newton, Kan.

He served in the Navy and was a retired plant manager for Citgo in Hutchinson, Kan., where he worked for 28 years. At the time of his death, he was farmer and member of Emergency Management for Civil Service.

He moved to the Okemah area in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline of the home; one son, Michael and Carolyn Elmore of Okemah; three brothers, Bill and Tina Elmore of Longview, Texas; John and Leda Elmore of Okemah and Jim and Twila Elmore of Drummond, Okla.; one sister, Alyce and Gerald Watts of Eufaula; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robin Watts officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.

Coy Willard Shivers

Coy Willard Shivers died Monday in Prague. He was 75.

He was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Okfuskee County to Arthur and Cora Cordilla (Perry) Shivers. He was a resident of the Paden area all of his life and worked as a carpenter.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Paden. He married Wanda VanZant on Jan. 25, 1950, in the VanZant Community in Okfuskee County.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda Shivers of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Grey and Sherry Shivers of Ringling, Okla.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Terry Devoy and Glen Cooper of Paden; Kathy Lee and Deion Bleer of Earlsboro, and Kristi Shivers of Paden; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Harold and Carolyn Shivers, Paden; Rev. Carl and Myrtle Shivers of Stratford; Loy Shivers of Norman; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Bob Duncan and Rev. James McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the Keokuk Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Donna Cathryn Meade

Donna Cathryn Meade of Bowlegs died Tuesday. She was 65.

She was born in Bray, Okla., on April 1, 1934, to Eugene Joseph Varvil and Mary Louise (Orcutt) Varvil. She married Wayne Nelson Meade on June 23, 1951, and they farmed and ranched in the Seminole area until their divorce in 1984. He preceded her in death in 1990.

In 1983, a car accident left her a quadriplegic, but despite her injury, she served as the postmaster of Bowlegs until her death.

In 1986, she was named Handicapped Employee of the Year by the U.S. Postal Service.

Her father and brother James Theodore Varvil also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her mother, Mary Louise Varvil of Edmond; two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Debbie Meade of Perry; Ralph and Janie Meade of Deer Creek North; a daughter and son-in-law, Alisa Cathryn and Dean Krakel of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Wayman Varvil of Edmond; a sister, Joyce Adams of Gore; and seven grandchildren.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Assembly of God in Bowlegs with the Rev. Roy Robertson and Dean Krakel officiating. Burial is at George Cemetery at Tryon, south of Stillwater.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Mackenzie Rian Seaborn

Mackenzie Rian Seaborn of Del City died Sunday following a battle with leukemia. She was 2.

She was born July 2, 1996, in Midwest City.

She is survived by her parents, Brad and Tina Seaborn of the home; one brother, Coleman Seaborn of the home; paternal grandparents, Bob and Pat Seaborn, Shawnee; maternal grandparents, Danny and Gayle Spence of Oklahoma City. two maternal great-grandmothers, Dorothy Denwalt and Alice Spence, both of Del City; one maternal great-great grandmother, Tess Rogers of Oklahoma City; one uncle, Chris and wife Laura Spence of Asher; one aunt, Debbie Seaborn of Shawnee; great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Chapel in Del City with burial at Dale Cemetery.

Opal Georgia Dodson

Opal Georgia Dodson of Shawnee died Tuesday in St. Louis. She was 90.

She was born in Stigler, Okla., on April 10, 1908, to Charles Wesley Bond and Margaret Ann (Stewart) Bond.

She married J.B. Roberts on April 2, 1924, and he preceded her in death in 1956. On Dec. 29, 1959, she married Clifford Dodson, and he also preceded her in death on June 12, 1963.

She lived in Shawnee for 23 years, moving from Panama, Okla., in 1976.

She was a cook at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City and was a member of the St. Louis First Baptist Church, and Rebekah Assembly of Oklahoma, No. 271, where she had served as noble grand. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary No. 0016, and Mysterious Club Thirteen of Shawnee.

Preceding her in death were here husbands, her parents, two sons, one daughter and four sisters.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, J. Don and Anna Sue Roberts of St. Louis; Billie Lee and Jessie Roberts of Allardt, Tenn.; Bobbie Ray and Joyce Roberts of Fairfield, Ohio; one brother, Lee Bond of Suffolk, Va.; seven grandchildren, Bradley K. Roberts, Michael D. Roberts, Margaret Ann Burleson, Jeffrey D. Roberts, Wesley Roberts, Ronald Roberts, and Vickie Dunloup; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Louis First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Peck officiating. Burial is at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.

Arrangements are under the direction of Knight Funeral Home in Maud.
