Larry Alan Hinds

Larry Alan Hinds of Seminole died Monday. He was 35.

He was born Nov. 27, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, to Warren Lee Hinds and Catherine Julie (Wingard) Hinds. He moved to Seminole 23 years ago from Austin, Texas. He married Vivian Troglin on May 2, 1985, in Seminole.

He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Surviving are his mother, Catherine Julie Hinds of Shawnee; his wife, Vivian Hinds of the home; a son, Danny Pensinger of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Cristie and Matthew Jordan of Seminole; two brothers, Charles Hinds of Gainesville, Texas, and Donald Hinds of Yukon; three sisters, Carolyn Haynes of Seminole, Debbie Gurley of Wewoka; and Judy Thompson of Gardengrove, Calif.; and one grandchild, Kaylee Nicole Jordan.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial is at Little Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Ida Lorene Newland

Ida Lorene Newland of Tecumseh died Monday. She was 85.

She was born March 23, 1914, in Shawnee to Pete and Mattie (Orrick) Junk. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1931 and St. Anthony's Hospital Nursing School in 1934.

On Nov. 3, 1935, she married Warren E. Newland in Guthrie and he preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1983.

She was born and reared in Shawnee, then lived in Oklahoma City from 1934 through 1968. She moved to Tecumseh and had lived there since that time. She was a practicing registered nurse for several years and was a former member of the St. Patrick Church in Oklahoma City and was a current member of St. Benedict Church of Shawnee.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Warren Newland in 1957; her parents, five brothers, and one sister.

Surviving are one daughter, Sister Susan Newland, Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kan.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Frances Marr, Tecumseh; Bernice Foree, Oklahoma City, Gloria and Bill Stasyszen of Tecumseh; numerous nieces and nephews.

A wake service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Shawnee with the Rev. Lawrence Stasyszen, OSB. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery in Shawnee.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Margaret E. Allen

Margaret E. Allen, 85, died Monday in her Shawnee home.

The daughter of Homer and Ethyl V. (Gladwill) Swink, she was born June 13, 1915, in Shawnee. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1933.

On Sept. 18, 1939, she was married in Shawnee to James W. "Jimmie" Allen, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Allen, a homemaker, had lived in and around Shawnee all her life. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Sarah Sunday school class and Epsilon Mothers Club.

Also preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Bob Swink.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne M. and Dewaine Walker of Arlington, Texas; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Bonnie Swink and Jack Swink, all of Shawnee, and Jerry and Norma Swink of Port Isabel, Texas; and three sisters, Helen Fortune of Vernon, Texas, Mildred Stewart and Gladys Harmon, both of Shawnee.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. J.C. Farrand will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Jean Rouse

Bethel resident Jean Rouse, 79, died Monday in Shawnee.

The daughter of Ira and Addie (McElhannon) Harris, she was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Dewar, Okla. She was a graduate of Wolf High School in Seminole County.

Mrs. Rouse, a homemaker, lived most of her adult life in Shawnee. On Sept. 9, 1939, she married Harold Rouse.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Rouse of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Delores and Don Austin of Moore, Kathleen and James Brooks of Bethel and Sharon Meyer of Tulsa; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Doris Rouse of Shawnee, eight grandchildren, Donnie Austin, Darla Schantz, Kim Kidd, Ben Meyer, Michelle Mincher, Chris Rouse, James Brooks Jr. and Shannon Filbeck, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Betty Harris of Mead and her sister and brother-in-law, Francis and Bill Coleman of Wichita, Kan.

Graveside service are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lou Davis

Mary Lou Davis died Monday in an Oklahoma City nursing home. The Del City resident was 71.

The daughter of Troy T. and Minnie Hazel (Bridgeman) Maddox, she was born Feb. 14, 1930, in Shawnee, where she grew up.

Mrs. Davis, a Shawnee High School graduate, was a secretary at Family Health Center in Oklahoma City.

On Jan. 31, 1949, she was married in Shawnee to James C. Davis, who preceded her in death.

She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, Goldstar Wives Club and Order of the Eastern Star.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Leslie Williams, and brother, Troy Maddox.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James C. Davis II and Rebecca of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; her sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Curtis Mays of Del City; four grandchildren, Travis Davis, Sean Davis, Stormy Williams and Taryn Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Mike DeMoss officiating. Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mae Parsons

Mae Parsons, 88, Okemah, died Monday in Seminole.

She was born July 22, 1912, in Yale, Ark., to Jess Seaton and Ilar Cox Seaton.

She was married Oct. 5, 1929, in Tecumseh to Clifford William Parsons, who preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1991.

Mrs. Parsons, a Baptist, moved to the Okemah area in 1969 and worked for many years in food service.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Louise Parsons; two granddaughters, Kim Parsons of Tulsa and Deana Parsons of Norman; one great-granddaughter, Westlee Parsons of Norman; one brother, Vernon Seaton of Tecumseh; one sister, Irene Dodd of Hanford, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Jean Seaton of Shawnee.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel in Okemah. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery with Waldo Young officiating.

Johnny Lee DeLong Sr.

Johnny Lee Delong Sr. died Monday in an Oklahoma City hospital. The Tecumseh resident was 69.

The son of Earl and Bertha DeLong, he was born March 28, 1931, in Freedom, Okla. He attended Plainview rural grade school.

On Nov. 14, 1952, he married Clara Aldrich at Freedom. The couple had lived in Tecumseh since 1959.

A sergeant in the U.S. Army, DeLong earned many awards and honors during four years of service in Japan.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base. DeLong, a construction worker, owned and operated a service station.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Etha Uhl and Della Graves; and five brothers, George DeLong, Joe DeLong, Carl Schroeder, Howard Schroeder and Charlie Schroeder, as well as his great-grandson, Corbin Pritchard.

Survivors include his wife, Clara DeLong of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Lonnie Trammell and Wanda and Dean Harrell, all of Tecumseh; his son, Johnny DeLong Jr. of Tecumseh; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Raymond Howard of Ulysses, Kan., and Virgie and Rocky Brewer of White Water, Kan.; two half sisters, Dollie Balon of San Diego, Calif., and Myrtle Wasemiller of Enid; five grandchildren and their spouses, Robbie and Tina Annanders, Jeremy Annanders, Lawanda and Carl Clark, Treva and Daniel Lichty and Ellen and Mark Pritchard, and six great-grandchildren.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Countryside Pentecostal Church, SH 102 and SH 9. The Rev. Dennis Stone will officiate and burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Frances Rosa Cangelosi

Frances Rosa Cangelosi died Friday in a Tulsa hospital. The Bristow resident and homemaker was 73.

Graveside services are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Magnolia Memorial Gardens, Bristow. Melvin Harrington will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home in Bristow.

Rosia Layton

Rosia Layton, 99, Bedford, Texas, died Tuesday in Bedford.

Services are set for 4 p.m. Thursday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Velma Lee Warden

Longtime Seminole resident Velma Lee Warden died Friday at a Seminole nursing home. She was 83.

Mrs. Warden was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Salisaw to Arthur Tye and Rosie (Shivers) Tye. She married Ennis Warden.

She was a homemaker and was active in many churches in the Seminole area.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Carl, Johnny and Jessie Warden, all of Seminole; Melvin Warden, Yukon; Floyd Warden, Meeker; Russell Warden, Shawnee; three daughters, Elsie Hill and Linda Hoskison, both of Seminole; Rosie Soule, Bowlegs; one nephew, Donald Tye, Shawnee; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ennis Warden; two sons, A.V. and Richard Warden; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Harvey Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Hightower and Rev. Fred Morrison officiating. Burial will be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Beatrice G. Steel

Tecumseh resident Beatrice G. Steel died Friday in Shawnee. She was 85.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Steel was born Aug. 7, 1913, in Paragould, Ark., to Joe and Bertha (Eubanks) Armistead. She married Clyde Steel.

She grew up in Elk City and moved to Tecumseh 35 years ago. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nell and Raymond Treat, Shawnee; sons and daughters-in-law, Orvey J. and Betty Herndon, Elk City; Wendell and Del Herndon, Hammon; son, Dewayne Herndon, Sayre; sister, Dorothy Jo Rusk, California; brother and sister-in-law, James and Mickey Armistead, Big Springs, Texas; brother, Paul Armistead, Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1974; her parents, two brothers, one sister, one grandson, one great-grandson, two great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter.
