E. Ray Higdon

E. Ray Higdon of McLoud died Saturday at a McLoud nursing home. He was 98.

He was born Sept. 20, 1982, in Sulphur, the son of Ish and Alice Higdon.

He was a farmer.

Higdon married Gertrude V. Petrick Nov. 13, 1927, at Tecumseh. She preceded him in death.

They moved to Wheatland, where they farmed and reared their sons.

In 1962, they moved to Prague and continued to farm, and moved to McLoud in 1987.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Etta Jones and Inez Snow.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Kendall and Pat Higdon, Oklahoma City, and Leon Higdon, Lubbock, Texas; sister, Mattie Lawson, Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Higdon.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at McLoud United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cyndy Schillinger officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Norman Andersen

Norman Andersen, Shawnee, died Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 69.

Andersen was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Norman and Helen (Ericksen) Andersen. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1988 and was a retired carpenter. He married Gloria Serrano on Feb. 26, 1967, in Mexico. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, and moved to Shawnee is 1975.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving include his wife, Gloria Andersen, Shawnee; two daughters, Helen Andersen, Moore; Gloria Andersen, Biloxi, Miss.; one son, Norman Andersen, Oklahoma City; two brothers, Arthur Andersen, Dallas; and John Andersen, Statesville, N.C.; and one grandchild.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. J.C. Farrand officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Virgie Burdine

Shawnee resident Virgie Burdine died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was 90.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Reed Lynn officiating.

Mrs. Burdine was born Aug. 29, 1908, in Newton County, Ark., to Elihu and Peggy Baker. She married Dee Burdine in 1929 in Newton County, Ark.

She had lived in Shawnee since 1965 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Home Demonstrations Homemakers of America and Rock Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jessie and Fred Butler, Ada; daughter, Violet Curtis and Jean Clark, Shawnee; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and nine brothers and sisters.

Louise H. Capron

Louise H. Capron, 96, died Wednesday at her home near Prague. She was born July 22, 1902, in Guthrie to Emil and Christina (Scheihing) Nau. She married Reese Monroe Capron on Sept. 14, 1930, in Guthrie.

She was a homemaker and a school teacher with a lifetime teaching certificate. She worked for two years at Tinker Air Force Base during World War II and had owned and operated her own beauty shop for several years. She also raised, dressed and sold turkeys.

She had lived in the Prague area since 1982 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Prague.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Reese and Sharon Capron, Prague; son, Ted Capron, Prague; five grandchildren, Bari Michelle Trost, Rigby, Idaho; Alex Emil Capron, Shawnee; Jennifer Elizabeth Levins, Lawrence, Kan.; Eric Edward Capron, Prague; and Mark Brooks Capron, Tulsa; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with the Rev. Jim Powell officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Gracelawn Cemetery in Edmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers and sisters; and her husband, in May of 1982.

Jep H. Daniel

Jep H. Daniel, 83, Seminole, died Tuesday in an Ada hospital.

He was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Okay to Rufus Andrew and Lettie Ann (Zackery) Daniel. He married Inez Ross in Ada on July 5, 1962, and worked in the oil field as a driller, tool pusher and field superintendent. He moved from Muskogee to Seminole 54 years ago.

He was Baptist and a member of Masonic Lodge in Seminole where received his 50-year pin in 1998.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sons, Jack Daniel and Robert "Bob" Daniel.

Surviving are his wife, Inez Ross Daniel, of the home; three daughters, Kaye Daniel Donald, Gilmer, Texas; Shange Daniel Loyd, Cedar Lake; Patsy Daniel, of the home; two sisters, Laura Breece, Muskogee; Bernice Johnson, Wagoner, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole with burial at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens of Seminole. The Rev. Dr. Frank Harber III will officiate.

Ethel Marie Loftis

Former area resident Ethel Marie Loftis of Demopolis, Ala., died Friday at her home. She was 61.

Services were Tuesday at Fairhaven Baptist Church, Demopolis, with the Rev. Joe Guthrie officiating. Burial was at Demopolis Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors, Demopolis.

She had lived in Demopolis for 16 years and had been manager of Petro Food Mart in Selma.

Her husband, James Newton Loftis, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, James Keith and Dianna Loftis, Thorsby, Ala.; Sidney Ray and Sherrie Loftis, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, Nancy Ann Hunter, Demopolis, Ala.; brothers, Delbert Cecil Prather, Darrell Floyd Prather, both of Shawnee, and grandchildren, Teresa Loftis, Jimbo Loftis, Cody Loftis, Taylor Loftis and Austin Loftis.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road NE, Atlanta GA 30329.

Jack Watson Wilbanks

Jack Watson Wilbanks died Tuesday at the age of 62.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Church of the Servant, Oklahoma City, with burial at Rose Hill Burial Park under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors of Edmond. The Rev. Dr. Norman Neaves will officiate.

Jack Watson Wilbanks was born March 28, 1936, to Robert and Stella Wilbanks in Calvin. He and Dortha were married Sept. 23, 1956.

He worked for The Prudential Insurance Co. for 38 years, receiving many awards including Regional and International Conference each year, the President's Citation, and membership in the Leaders Round Table.

He also was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Church of the Servant United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ista Belle Cartledge.

He is survived by his wife of the home; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Hazel; Thomas Harry and Joann; Wallace, and Glen and Beverly.

Bob Boyd

Bob Boyd, Shawnee, died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 72.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Jeff Wade will officiate.

Bob Boyd was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Norman to Ted and Thelma (Bristow) Boyd. He attended schools in Norman and graduated from Enid High School. He married Millie Poole on July 2, 1970, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

He was a budget analyst at Tinker Air Force Base and retired in June 1979 after 33 years. He moved from Del City to Shawnee in 1975.

His parents and a daughter, Peggy Boyd, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Millie Boyd, of the home; daughters, Sally B. Yones, Shawnee; Pat Kammerlocher, Norman; sons, Bob Boyd, Oklahoma City; Sean Boyd, Norman; three step-sons, Marc Poole, Oklahoma City; Victor Poole, Jeff Poole, both of Del City; mother-in-law, Rubye Gordon, Wetumka; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; close friend, Ruth Boyd, Noble, and two brothers, John Boyd, Saranac Lake, N.Y., and Ted Boyd, Mississippi.

Klondus R. Hutchens Jr.

Klondus R. Hutchens Jr., 67, McLoud, died Tuesday in Shawnee.

He was born Nov. 30, 1931, in Oklahoma City to Klondus Reese and Edna Norene (Mansfield) Hutchens.

He was a Choctaw High School graduate and attended Oklahoma State University for three and a half years. He retired from the U.S. Navy on June 15, 1972, and became an insurance agent for Pilot Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association.

Surviving include his wife, Frances McWhart Hutchens of the home; four daughters, Betty Ann Orick, Virginia; Mary Frances Leyerly, McLoud; Carolyn Jean Kaufman, Virginia; and Susan Lea Lewis, Virginia; two sons, William B. Crawley, Virginia; Thomas F. Crawley, McLoud; two brothers, Bill Hutchens, Choctaw; and Kenneth Hutchens, McLoud; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Chapel, S.E. 15th and Harrah/Newalla Road, with the Rev. Elbert Savage officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in McLoud. Arrangements are under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Sadie V. Baldridge

Sadie V. Baldridge, 87, Sallisaw died Monday in Vian.

She was a resident of Shawnee from 1957 to 1976.

She is survived by brother-in-law Karl C. Hartley, Sallisaw, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by 20 brothers and sisters.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Agent Chapel, Sallisaw. Burial will be in Maple Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw. Arrangements are under the direction of Agent Funeral Home.

V. Ralph White

Kennesaw, Ga., resident V. Ralph White died Tuesday in Marietta, Ga. He was 77.

White was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Seminole County to Guy Lacy and Gladys B. (Hefley) White.

He was a U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II and received his law degree from Centenary College, Shreveport, La., in 1954. He worked for the Veterans Administration for 34 years from 1946 to 1980, serving as regional director in Atlanta, Ga. from 1976 to 1980, director of the Federal Inter-Agency Disaster Relief Task Forces from 1977 to 1978, director of Veterans Administration Ad Hoc National Training Program for benefits counselors in July 1974 and Southeastern Federal Agency Evacuation director from 1975 to 1980.

He served on the Federal Executive Board from 1976 to 1980 and was honored with the Distinguished Career Award by the V.A. in 1980. After retirement, White worked as a mental health worker at Devereux Hospital in Kennesaw, Ga., until 1989.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and James P. Kelly, Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Mary Louise Kelly, London, England; Christopher John Kelly, Cambridge, Mass.; one sister, Edith Foust, Prague; and sister-in-law, Billie White, Prague.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ralph White Jr.; an infant brother, Gerald Lacy White; and brother, Richard White.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Prague with the Rev. Curtis Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Prague.

James Edward Clay

James Edward Clay died Saturday. He was 85.

He was born July 5, 1914, in Okemah. He was the son of Patrick Henry Clay and Clara (Moon) Clay.

On May 20, 1961, he married Ethel Harris in Pharaoh. She preceded him in death on May 28, 1997.

He was a veteran of World War II, assigned to the Corp of Engineers and took part in the invasion at Normandy. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and American Legion Post 123.

Clay had lived in the Okemah area all of his life.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Billie Jean and Tommy Wade of Okemah; Peggy Ann and James Richardson of Kansas City, Kan. and Patty Sue and Johnny Earnest of Costa Mesa, Calif.; one brother, the Rev. Carl and Nelda Clay of Okemah; one sister, Marie Foster of Jenks; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Walker officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah.
