Inez E. Ledford

Lifelong Shawnee resident Inez E. Ledford died Saturday at a local hospital. She was 74.

She was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Shawnee to Pete and Mary (Gilmore) Jones. She attended Shawnee Public Schools.

On May 17, 1943, she married Herbert "H.L." Ledford in Konawa.

She was a homemaker and member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the 40 and 8 LaFemmes and Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, H.L. Ledford, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, LaVon and Willie Davis, Shawnee; Dianna and Richard Haley, Seminole; and LaQuita Legarda, Shawnee; seven grandchildren, Tammy Blackwood, James Davis, Kevin Brown, Tracy Brown, Jeremy Clifford, Micca Legarda and Kerry Legarda; seven great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Doshia and Grady Smith, Gore; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Floyd Gene and Estella Ledford, Shawnee; Cletus Ledford, California; Delma Harris, Wilson; Christine and Noel Hardy, Fort Worth, Texas; Glenda Craig, Oklahoma City; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Beatrice Howard; and niece, Beverly Smith.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Matthews and Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Asthma Allergy Foundation of America, 1125 15th Street NW Suite 502, Washington, D.C., 20005.

Mildred Zella Guinn

Former Ada resident Mildred Zella Guinn, 89, Shawnee, died Thursday.

She was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Ada to Ben Newton and Maudie Lea Hutchings Newton.

Mrs. Guinn moved to Shawnee about 20 years ago from Ada. She graduated from Allen High School.

She attended East Central College. She was a teacher and homemaker.

She married Silas Evert Guinn in 1940 in Ada. He preceded her in death March 8, 1992.

She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Goldy Bostick and son-in-law, Carrell Dee Gray.

Survivors include daughter, Rhetta Gray, Shawnee; two brothers, Clyde Newton, Alamogordo, N.M.; Rudy Newton and wife Carmaletta of Ada; sister, Edith Brady, Denison, Texas; grandson, Bobby Gray and wife Lori of Ada; granddaughter, Donna Kesler and husband, Robert of Maud; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Gray, Rachel Gray, Cody Kesler and Dallas Kesler.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Chapel with Jim Pritchard officiating. Burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery, under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.

Ronnie Haygens

Ronnie Haygens died Friday at his home near Chandler. He was 52.

He was born Feb. 21, 1948, in Roanoke, Ala. He was the son of Edgar and Thelma (Osborn) Haygens.

He married Debbie McCaslin March 20, 1970, in Woodward.

Haygens served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and he served until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Haygens, of the home; sons, Chad Haygens, Montgomery, Ala., and Chris Haygens, Chandler; brothers, Mike Haygens, Idaho, Eddie Haygens and Robert Haygens, both of Alabama; sisters, Brenda, Debbie and Jeannette, all of Alabama; one grandson, Jay Alexander; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Cushing under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Tony Patrick O'Bryant

Tony Patrick O'Bryant, 66, Shawnee, died Tuesday in Shawnee.

O'Bryant, the son of James Janson and Elma Eunice (Patterson) O'Bryant was born June 2, 1934, in Saint Louis. He was a graduate of Saint Louis High School and Oklahoma State University Tech. He also served in the U.S. Army.

He and Jean Hines were married Dec. 23, 1954, in Pearson.

O'Bryant began working for OG&E in 1960 as a mechanic. He later became a hydraulic specialist. In 1994, he retired as a transportation supervisor.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association and the American Shooters Association.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Glen O'Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Jean O'Bryant of the home; two daughters, Kathy Dianne Campbell of Seminole and Laura Lynn Moore of Norman; three grandchildren, Patrick Wayne Campbell of Seminole, Levi Justice Moore of Norman and Marcie Renae Campbell of Seminole; brothers and sisters-in-law, Newton and Darlene O'Bryant of Konawa and Olen and Carolyn O'Bryant of Choctaw; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and Tim Hines of Luther and Lois Redfield of Tecumseh, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, Tecumseh. The Rev. Mac Pearcy will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Elmer A. Ericson

Elmer A. Ericson died Friday in Oklahoma City. The Tecumseh resident was 78.

The son of Arthur Emmanuel and Margaret Emma Ericson was born March 5, 1923, in Jersey City, N.J.

He served with the U.S. Navy SeaBees in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II.

On May 18, 1946, he was married in New Jersey to Audrey Stalter, who preceded him in death June 2, 1992.

After his marriage, he lived in East Keansburg, N.J., for 28 years. In 1983, he moved to Tecumseh.

Ericson was an electrical engineer at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant before working at Brown and Root in Glen Rose, Texas. He retired from Brown and Root.

Preceding him in death were two daughters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Ericson of Glen Rose, Texas, and Arthur and Sandy Ericson of Seattle, Wash.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Michael McKenna of Colleyville, Tenn., and Sherie and David Weber of Summerville, S.C., and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh. Robert Ericson will officiate and burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Mary Bessie Jewell (Dame) Penn

Mary Bessie Jewell (Dame) Penn, 88, Lindsay, died Tuesday at a Shawnee nursing home.

She was born Nov. 24, 1912, in Center, Okla., to Dave and Lonie Dame. On Oct. 31, 1948, she and Herman Lee Penn were married.

Mrs. Penn taught school in Pontotoc County for 10 years and at the Hughes School in Garvin County for 25 years. She was a member of Hughes Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and two brothers, Jesse and Earl Dame.

Survivors include her two brothers, Roy Dame of California and Everett Dame of New Mexico; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dame of Shawnee, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Liberty Baptist Church, Shawnee. The Rev. Bill Matthews will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay. Arrangements are under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay.

Joe F. Rogers

Joe F. Rogers died Tuesday in a local hospital. The Shawnee resident was 73.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Rusty Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Margie Mae Arnold

Margie Mae Arnold, Shawnee, died Wednesday in Shawnee. She was 87.

She was born May 13, 1913, in Okemah, the daughter of William and Stella (Collins) Bell Yadon. She graduated from Okemah High School.

She retired from Montgomery Wards as a bookkeeper. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Brown Furniture for 20 years.

In 1933, she married Rex Taylor, who preceded her in death in 1940. In 1942, she married J. Hugh Nolen, who preceded her in death in 1946. She was married in 1953 to E.F. Arnold, who preceded her in death in 1994.

For more than 50 years, Mrs. Arnold was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she served as superintendent of the Intermediate Sunday School Department for 20 years. She was also a member of the W.M.U. and T.N.T.'s at Immanuel Baptist Church.

She had lived in Shawnee since the early 1950s.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Bessie Armstrong and Ann Parker, and three brothers, Fred Yadon, Ralph Yadon and Jess Yadon.

Survivors include five children and their spouses, Pat and Dick Curtis of Shawnee, Rex and Sue Taylor of Fort Worth, Texas, Frances and Kenneth Dare of Tecumseh, Edwina and Charles Rounds of Oklahoma City and Rex and Wanda Arnold of Georgetown, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Josh Curtis of Hollywood, Calif., Rick, Rob and Sunni Taylor, all of Fort Worth, Texas, Evan Dare of Edmond, Kristy Pinion of Tulsa, Sue Black of Midwest City, Cathy Bartlett of Bethany, Suzanne Kelly of Austin, Texas, and Lyndon Arnold of Denver, Colo.

Helen Laverne Dunlap

Helen Laverne (Flippin) Dunlap of Oklahoma City died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. She was 97.

She was born Sept. 30, 1903, in Hickman, Ky., to Marvin and Annie O. (Williams) Flippin. On July 29, 1929, she married John Earl Dunlap Sr. in Mound City, Ill.; he preceded her in death May 29, 1963.

She moved in 1908 to Cairo, Ill., where she and her husband operated Dunlap Transfer Co. for 36 years. She lived in Dallas, Texas, for 19 years before moving to Oklahoma City.

She was a homemaker, Sunday school teacher and member of the First Church of God in Cairo.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Dunlap Jr.; her daughter, Mary McKinney; a brother, Paul Flippin; and a sister, Mozelle Reid.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty Hock, Richardson, Texas; Barbara J. Frogge, Dallas, Texas; Judy Summers of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; special friend Carolyn Schaefer, Fountain Hill, Ariz.; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh, with Al Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Villa Ridge, Ill.also is survived by her sister, Glen Ola Hopwood of Edmond; special friend, Jewel Titsworth of Shawnee; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Sam Hendry will officiate and burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Okemah.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shawnee or Gideon Bible.

Violet Beck Key

Violet Beck Key, 78, Tecumseh, died Tuesday in Tecumseh.

She was born May 31, 1922, in Paden to Frank and Beatrice (Lakins) Beck.

She attended Midway School and grew up on a farm north of Paden, later living in Okemah. She lived in California for nine years before returning to the Tecumseh area 30 years ago.

Mrs. Key was a homemaker.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her brother, Clifton Beck; her son, Rickey Webb, and two grandsons, Loyd McDaniel and Clifton Royal McDaniel.

Survivors include her five sons, Edward Musgrove of Prague, Robert Musgrove of Tulsa, Lonnie Webb of Shawnee, Jerry Webb of Tecumseh and Mike Webb of McAlester; her daughter, Delois Throckmorton of Shawnee; her sister, Norva VanMeter of Prague; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Burnett Mission, five miles north of Paden. The Rev. Paul Herd will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Dale Cemetery, Paden. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
