Betty R. Rowston

Shawnee resident Betty R. Rowston died Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was 73.

Mrs. Rowston was born July 24, 1926, in Des Ark, Ark., to H.D. Duke and Eva Benrose Griggs. She moved to Shawnee with her parents in 1944 and graduated from Shawnee High School.

She married Charles E. Rowston at Stuttgart, Ark., and was audit manager for Sears for 35 years before retiring in 1988. She was president of Diamond K. Kiwanis and member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Jesus Heirs Singers.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Larry Hall, Shawnee; granddaughter, Amanda Hall, Shawnee; grandson and spouse, Steven and Gina Hall, Shawnee; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Beulah Rowston, Gladwin, Mich.; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Stan Streit, Atlanta, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Mina Lankton, Florida; Joyce Emberson, Norman; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sam Hendry officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. The casket will remain open until 9:45 a.m. and will be opened after the service.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund.

Rosie Ellen Mann

Rosie Ellen Mann died Saturday at Haskell. She was 85.

Mrs. Mann was born April 16, 1914, at Hanna, Okla., to Will W. and Bertie (Ballinger) McGuire. She married Joseph Glen Mann Aug. 3, 1931, at Checotah.

She was a Baptist and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Joseph Wayne Mann, Tulsa; daughters and sons-in-law, Katie Lee and Doyle Burr, Boynton, Okla.; Bertie Jane and Ronnie Driskell, Sand Springs; Louise and Gene Thornton, Council Hill; brother, Alburn Waggoner, California; two sisters, Florence Meneese and Lavada Combs, both of California; 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Charles Mann, Thomas Mann and James Mann; and two sisters, Tilda Smith and Irene Ballinger.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, Okemah.

Leoma E. Swigart

Leoma E. Swigart died Wednesday after a long illness. She was 85.

Mrs. Swigart was born in Pottawatomie County to Alfred and Auga Moody. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1940 with a bachelor of arts degree in industrial design. She married John K. Swigart in 1940.

She and her husband had lived in Japan, California, Arizona, Oklahoma, Illinois and Nevada. She retired in San Antonio, Texas in 1961.

She was a member of Acadia Garden Club for many years and had served as treasurer and president. She was also member of the San Antonio branch of AARP.

Survivors include daughter, Silvia Crockett, San Antonio; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila Fichtner and John Garrard, Spring Branch, Texas; Nancy and Tom Russell, Bethany; son and daughter-in-law, John K. and Kay Swigart II, Longview, Texas; grandchildren, Jennifer Crockett, Carolyn Fichtner, both of Austin, Texas; Russell Fichtner III, San Antonio; Kathryn Russell, Austin; Andrew Russell, Savannah, Ga.; Nicole and Jonathan Swigart and Lane Fuller, all of Longview; great-granddaughter, Leoma Kay Heath; brother, Elbert Moody and sister-in-law, Francis Moody, Shawnee; sisters, Dessa Lockhart, Moore; Loretta Stein, Antioch, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. John K. Swigart.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Porter Loring Mortuary, San Antonio.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Scott Robert Jones

Scott Robert Jones, 48, died Friday in Anderson, S.C.

He was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Kansas City, Mo., to Leonard and Joan Jones. He grew up in Royal Oak, Mich., and graduated from Kimball High Schol. He earned an electrical engineering degree from Oklahoma State University and was employed by Robert Bosch Corp. at the time of his death.

On Dec. 27, 1980, he married Jo Ellen Fenimore in Stillwater. He served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Shawnee and was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Anderson, S.C.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ellen Jones; his parents, Leonard and Joan Jones; a daughter, Kathryn Jones of Anderson, S.C.; and a sister, Whitney Knight, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Central Presbyterian Church, Anderson, S.C., with Dr. David Bailey officiating. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Fairlawn Cemetery, Stillwater, with Dr. B. Gordon Edwards officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater.

Memorials may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 1404 N. Blvd., Anderson, S.C., 29621.

Genevieve Bourland

Long-time Shawnee resident, Genevieve Bourland, died Wednesday in Austin, Texas at the age of 92.

Bourland was born March 28, 1908, in Tecumseh to Thomas Newton and Frances May (Carr) Copeland.

She married William Thomas Bourland on Aug. 29, 1925, in Tecumseh.

She and her husband owned the John Deere farm machinery dealership until their retirement in the 1960s.

Bourland was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Shawnee, for 66 years and also belonged to Altrusa and two AARP chapters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Elma Henderson and Lucille Boyd; and two brothers, Tom and Benton Copeland.

Survivors include her son, Bill Bourland of Round Rock, Texas; grandsons, Mike Bourland of Round Rock, Texas, and Greg Bourland of Austin, Texas; great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Lexie Bourland of Austin, Texas; niece, Frances Moody of Shawnee; and nephews, John Copeland of Tecumseh and Paul Copeland of Dallas, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Beck Funeral Home in Round Rock, Texas. A memorial service will be held in Shawnee at a date to be announced.

She will be buried in the Tecumseh Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1100, Chicago, Ill., 60611, with acknowledgments to Bill Bourland, 1825 Cedar Bend Dr., Round Rock, Texas, 78681.

Monte Claudell Morris

Monte Claudell "Butch" Morris died Sunday in Edmond. He was 29.

He was born Jan. 20, 1972, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Wichita Falls Rider High School and attended Texas State Technical Institute, Waco, Texas.

Morris worked as an electronics technician for six years.

Survivors include his mother, Virginia Morris, Lincoln, Mass.; father and stepmother, William A. and Janie Morris Sr. of Shawnee; grandmother, Dorothy Bell, Wichita Falls, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, William A. and Jennifer Morris Jr., Hampton, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorena and Greg Amen, Edmond, and Sally and Craig Aho, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.; nephews and niece-in-law, Andy Morris, Nikki and Caleb Aho; and niece, Lauren Morris; and many friends.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany, and the services will be 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1001 N.W. 25th St., Oklahoma City. Burial will be 1 p.m. in Waterloo Cemetery, Kelly and Waterloo Road, near Edmond.

Helene J. Chapman

Former Shawnee resident Helene J. Chapman died Sunday in Gulfport, Fla. She was 93.

She was born Nov. 23, 1907, in Dardnelle, Ark., the daughter of J.B. and Margaret (Campbell) Dawson.

Chapman graduated from high school in Dardnelle, Ark., and Arkansas Technology in Russellville, Ark. Mrs. Chapman moved to Shawnee in 1928.

She was past president of the Junior Service League, past president of the Wa-P-He Study Club, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served on the board of directors of Evergreen Mills for 29 years where she was secretary-treasurer and vice president.

She also was a member of the President's Club of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas.

Chapman established a Merle and Helene Chapman Ministerial Scholarship Fund at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for the training of ministerial scholars.

She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Billie Heeter.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Norma Heeter, Austin, Texas; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, William Hayes and Christin Heeter, Magnolia, Texas, Ronald C. and Darla Heeter, St. Pete Beach, Fla., and Donald M. Heeter, St. Petersburg, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Brandon Heeter, Andrew Heeter, Emily Heeter and Amanda Heeter; and nephew, Dr. Irving Dawson, Arlington, Texas.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Max Shumake officiating. Services are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Cornelia C. Woods

Cornelia C. Woods of Tecumseh died Thursday in Tecumseh. She was 92.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. William Bentley, Broadway United Methodist Church, Tecumseh, officiating.

Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Pearlee L. (Powers) Junk

Pearlee L. (Powers) Junk, Tecumseh, died Tuesday in Tecumseh. She was 99.

The daughter of William T. and Nancy E. (Thurman) Powers, she was born Dec. 25, 1901, in Cheyenne.

Mrs. Junk, a lifelong Oklahoma resident, lived in western Oklahoma before her marriage. Following her marriage, she lived in Tecumseh for 17 years before moving to the Okmulgee area, Oklahoma City and Purcell. She returned to Tecumseh in 1991.

She was married April 29, 1931, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Shawnee to Henry O. Junk, who preceded her in death March 11, 1988.

Mrs. Junk, a homemaker, was a member of Church of Christ in Purcell.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; three daughters, Rose Marie Junk, Norma L. Carter and Nancy E. Fox; her son, John Thomas Junk; seven sisters, Effie Beaver, Ethl Clark, Eula Kimmel, Hazel Pippen, Norma Sullins, Opal Chisholm and Lois Emmons; and her brother, Marvin Powers.

Survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-law, Henry "Buck" and Coleen Junk of Vian and Raymond P. Junk of Tecumseh; daughters and sons-in-law, Frankie and Lonny Williams of Eufaula and Mattie June and Jim Houck of Tecumseh; sister, Frankie Davis of Henryetta; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh. The Rev. John Mixon will officiate and burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.

Ann Praasch

Midwest City resident Ann Praasch died Saturday at the age of 89.

She was born July 6, 1911, in Germany and moved to the United States when she was a teen-ager.

Ms. Praasch, a longtime employee of Queen Anne Cafeteria in Oklahoma City, retired as a supervisor.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Fred C. Praasch, and granddaughters, Margaret L. and Patricia A. Hines.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen Murphy; grandchildren and their spouses, Katherine and Elmer Cagle, John Hines, Matt and Penny Hines and Mark and Twana Hines, and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Paylor Funeral Home, Midwest City. Visitation will be immediately after the service.

Tommy Lee Johnson

Tommy Lee Johnson, 76, Wewoka, died Saturday at a Norman hospital. He was 76.

The son of Robert and Ora Johnson, he was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Shawnee.

Johnson, a Seminole County resident for 14 years, was the self-employed owner of Derby Service Station.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Tony Johnson; nine sisters, Odessa Williams, Savanna Bray, F.L. McClain, Dorothy Johnson, Naomi Tramble, S.L. Lacy, Lucille Johnson, Phoebia Ann Hibbitt and Gussie Johnson, and one granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Johnson of Wewoka; four daughters, Izora Wigley of Denver, Colo., Brenda Banks of Shawnee and Diedra Johnson and Lekisha Johnson, both of Wewoka; seven sons, Tommy Johnson Jr. of California, Eric Johnson of Tulsa, Rodney Johnson, Jerome Johnson, Tracy Johnson and Lenny Johnson, all of Wewoka, and Richard Johnson of Korea; sister, Mary McElhannon of Shawnee; 22 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Macedonia Baptist Church, Wewoka. The Rev. David Young will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.

Kathleen Palmer

Kathleen Palmer, 79, Shawnee, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
