Earl E. Coffey

Earl E. "Speck" Coffey, 84, Tecumseh, died Wednesday in Tecumseh.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Harvey Spear will officiate. Burial will be in Tecumseh Cemetery. Other information is pending.

Beulah Hey

Noble resident Beulah "Jean" Hey died Friday at a Norman hospital. She was 79.

She was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Bennington, Okla., to Marshall H. Pebsworth and Gertrude I. (Shoemake) Pebsworth.

She married Charley Leo Henderson May 20, 1938. He preceded her in death in March 1948. She later married Mervin R. Hey July 17, 1953. He preceded her in death May 9, 1996.

She was a mother, grandmother and member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Tecumseh and the Eastern Star. She lived in Noble, Oklahoma City and Tecumseh.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Claude and Deanna Henderson, Shawnee, and Kenneth Don and Rose Henderson, Edmond; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Jean Henderson, Norman, Janet Marie and Gary Tollefson, Sioux Fall, S.D., Joan Elizabeth and Daryl Skoog, Colorado Springs, Colo., Myrna Loy and Joe Fountain, Oklahoma City, Deborah Ruth and Steve Yandell, Red Oak, Okla., and Cynthia Diane and Larry M. Poteet, Moore; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, five brothers and one son, Charles E. Henderson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Habishaw officiating. Burial will be at Arlington Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

James E. Williams

James E. "Doc" Williams of Yale died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 94.

He was born July 31, 1905, in Indian Territory near Watonga. He was the son of Lucas Carr Williams and Rosa Louise Washington Williams.

Williams moved to Seminole in 1927 and remained in Seminole until 1989 when he returned to live in Yale. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In 1917 the family moved from Watonga to Yale where they operated the grocery and livery service. The family moved to Seminole in 1927 as the oil fields became active.

Williams served in the naval reserves from 1942-1945. During that time he served in all three theaters of World War II.

After the war he returned to Seminole and married Telia Dickerson in 1950.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Telia; two sons, Harold and Bill Dickerson; two brothers and his parents.

Survivors include sons, Carl Dickerson and Clifton Dickerson of Barstow, Calif.; Richard Dickerson of Oklahoma City and Jim Williams of Yale; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Tom Edwin Keegan

Tom Edwin Keegan died Saturday in Meeker. He was 95.

He was born Jan. 21, 1905, in Chandler. He was the son of Edwin Glen and Ocie Maud (Kedash) Keegan.

He married Margaret Cunningham in 1931 in Chandler.

Keegan lived in the Chandler area all his life and attended Chandler school. During high school, he attended New Mexico Military School in Roswell, N.M. He then went to school at the Detroit School of Technology, where he studied banking and general business.

He worked for the Union National Bank until 1947 when he retired to take care of his farming and oil business. He was active until two years ago, when his health forced him to move to Meeker.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Keegan, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ed A. and Martha Sue Keegan, Rockwall, Texas; daughter, Doris Cissy Keegan Johnson, El Reno; four grandchildren, Tom and Sherri Keegan, Rockwall, Texas, Edwin Alfred and Jane Keegan II, Denver, Colo., Karen Keegan and Guy Van Syckle, Great Falls, Va., Patrick Kevin and Yvonne Keegan, New Orleans, La.; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Berta Mae Triplett, Fort Supply; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler with the Rev. Thom Chappelle officiating under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

Thelma Lewis

Shawnee resident Thelma Lewis died Wednesday at a local hospital. She was 85.

She was born Sept. 29, 1914, northeast of McLoud in Pottawatomie County to James A. and Josie (Scott) Hall.

She married Bill M. Lewis in 1936 in Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Lewis graduated form Shawnee High School and attended business school. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Wa-Pa-He Study Club, Garden Club and Sewing Club. She was an early members of the Alpha Mothers Club and state president of the Federated Mothers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; mother, Josie Hall; and a half-brother, Albert Hall.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Simley Irelan, Shawnee; three grandchildren and her spouses, Bill and Christy Irelan, Denver, Colo., Dr. Jim and Peggy Irelan, Louisville, Colo., and Kathleen Irelan, Cherryvale, Kan.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Dwayne Dennis officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Thurman C. Bounds

Thurman C. Bounds died Friday in Tryon. He was 89.

He was born Aug. 14, 1910, in Pocahontas, Ark. He was the son of Jasper and Margaret Bounds.

He lived in the Tryon area all his life. He was a member of the Tryon First Christian Church. He worked in farming and construction.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Bounds, of the home; son, Terry Bounds, Luther; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church of Tryon with the Rev. Charles Wheeler and the Rev. Don Campo officiating. Burial will be at the Tryon Cemetery under the direction of the Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Chandler.

James Johnson

James Johnson died Friday in Norman. He was 80.

He was born Jan. 16, 1920, in Keokuk Falls, Okla. He was the son of Clarence and Julia (Edwards) Johnson.

He married Dorothy L. Bowen July 9, 1975.

Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion. He served in the Air Force during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War.

After serving, he maintained a job at Sands Body Shop in Prague for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. Johnson, of the home; sons, James J. Johnson Jr., Jones, William Johnson, and Jack Johnson, Oklahoma City; daughters, Lillian Frazier, Columbus, Ohio, Felicity Johnson and Julie Johnson; stepdaughters, Robin Lawson, of the home, and Carla Baker and husband Kenny, Paden; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Prague with Brother Tim Emmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Giles Cemetery.

Merrill D. Smith Sr.

Funeral services for Merrill D. Smith Sr., 55, Shawnee, will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rock Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Smith, the Rev. James Bell and the Rev. Jeff Mendenhall officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Smith died Saturday at his residence.

He was born July 13, 1945, in Shawnee, the son of Charles and Betty Jean Tait Smith in Shawnee.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1963 and attended the University of Oklahoma.

Smith received his Nursing Home Administrators License in 1989. For the past several years, he served as the president of the board and administrator of The Golden Rule Home before retiring in 1999.

He was previously employed by the Fife Corporation.

He and Bula A. Classen were married in Shawnee on Nov. 18, 1966.

He was a minister and lifelong member of the Church of God.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Betty Smith, twin brother and sister-in-law, Derrill Sr. and Ruby Smith; a brother, Charles Melton Smith; a nephew, Dylan Stacy; and mother- and father-in-law, Alfred and Martha Classen.

Survivors include his wife Bula Smith of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Merrill Jr. and Renae Smith, Tulsa, Charles "Freddie" and CaTrinna Smith, Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mike Porter, Shawnee; daughter, Stephanie Smith of the home; grandchildren, Rachelle Potter, Michael Potter Jr. and Colton Smith; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David Smith, Shawnee, and Chuck and Kathy Smith, Shawnee; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Anna and Charles Jantz, Bristow, Terri and John Madden, Bristow and Betty and James Nicholson, Shawnee; and many nieces and nephews.

The family has designated Golden Rule Nursing Home as appropriate for memorial contributions.

Gaskill-Owen Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Bonnie E. Fry Hathcock

Funeral services for Bonnie E. Fry Hathcock, 79, Shawnee, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Matthews, the Rev. Phil Thompson and the Rev. Harry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

She died Thursday at her Shawnee home.

Hathcock was born July 25, 1921, near Asher to Everett and Ina Greenlee Fry.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church.

On Feb. 5, 1949, she married Jimmie Pete Hathcock.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Leon Pennington and Jimmie Pete Hathcock, one daughter, Patricia Ann Stubblefield, two brothers, Billy Ray Fry and Roy Fry, and one sister, Effie Faught.

She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Terri Hathcock, of the home, Gail and Gary Parsons, Shawnee; one sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Milford Bowlan, Shawnee; one sister-in-law, Beulah Fry, Asher; and seven grandchildren and their spouses, Howard and Jobeth Parsons, Earlsboro, Gary Jr. and Margie Parsons, Beth and Randy Garton, Jimmie and Kerri Parsons, Darleeta and David Marchant, Sara Corona and James Baker, all of Shawnee; 10 great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mae Hathcock, Jerry Hathcock and Jack Hathcock, all of Shawnee, Jean and Gene Oldham of Prague and Joann and Ray Holland of Tecumseh; two aunts; one uncle; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vergie Lyle

Funeral services for Vergie Lyle, 87, Tecumseh, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Yale with the Rev. Mike Dershem, youth minister for the church, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawson Cemetery. Lyle died Saturday in Shawnee.

She was born April 26, 1914, to William Asa and Pearl Vivian (Ferguson) Smith in Council Valley, Okla.

She attended grade school in Council Valley and graduated from Cushing High School.

On Feb. 27, 1934, she and Thieron "Doc" Lyle were married in Stillwater. He died Jan. 19, 1995.

She had lived in Yale, Laverne and Texas before moving to Tecumseh eight years ago.

Lyle was a member of the Tecumseh Garden Club, a member of the First Baptist Church in Yale and attended the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two brother, Nova Smith and Wayne Smith.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Gayle Lyle, Tecumseh; three brothers, Alvin Smith, Yale, Jay Smith, Cushing, and Herschel Smith, Midwest City; a sister, Mary Peterson, Livermore, Calif., three grandchildren, Paul, Beth and John Lyle, all of Tecumseh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of services.
