Alfred Alexander Parsons

Services for Alfred Alexander Parsons, 92, Seminole, are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Swearington Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Cline officiating. Burial follows in Little Cemetery.

Parsons died Sunday at his home.

He was born to Rufus Franklin and Mary Louise Porter Parsons Dec 24, 1908, at Rotan, Texas.

He and Mary Elizabeth were married on Jan. 21, 1988, in Seminole. She preceded him in death on July 22, 1996.

Parsons was a retired farmer and pumper who moved to Seminole 76 years ago from Weleetka. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his wife, one sister and a grandson.

Survivors include two sons, Grover Franklin Parsons, Olney, Texas, Alfred Leroy Parsons, Eureka Springs, Ark.; and two daughters, Emily June McGinnis, Seminole, Jean Allene Fuqua, Ada; 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Paul David Lewis

Paul David Lewis of Gunter, Texas, died Wednesday at a Dallas, Texas, hospital as the result of an automobile accident. He was 41.

Lewis was born Nov. 1, 1958, in Muskogee to Paul and Dolly Lewis. He was a 1976 graduate of Dale High School, where he was a member of the first ever state championship team in 1975.

In 1976, he was an Oklahoma All-State Baseball player. From 1976 to 1978, he attended Connors State College in Warner, Okla., where he completed an associate's degree in mathematics and played baseball.

In 1979, he signed a free agent contract to pitch in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Upon concluding that career, he attended Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah where he earned a bachelors degree in mathematics in 1982.

He taught and coached in several Oklahoma school districts including Kellyville, Afton, McAlester and Robin Hill.

In 1989, he completed his training as an air traffic controller and had served in that capacity in Houston and Dallas. He was most recently stationed at the In-Route Center at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Carlye Butler (Vandiver) Lewis, and three sons, Joshua Paul, Jacob David and Tyler Samuel; his parents, Paul and Dolly Lewis, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; mother-in-law, Dot Vandiver, Checotah; sister and brother-in-law, Pam (Lewis) and Scott Dellinger, Norman; brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Kelly (Taylor) Lewis, Bethel; grandmothers, Bessie Roberts, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Elsie Lewis, Warner; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, W.H. Roberts and Ed Lewis.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Checotah under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Checotah.

Marie S. Bays

Tecumseh resident Marie S. (Mayberry) Bays died Thursday in Tecumseh. She was 92.

Mrs. Bays was born Oct. 6, 1907, in Texas to Jacob Robert and Mary Margaret (Bitner) Mayberry. She lived most of her life in Westville and Tahlequah and had lived in the Tecumseh area for the past 10 years. She had worked in retail sales in Tahlequah.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Gregory and Rita Mayberry, Meeker.

Private graveside services were held Friday at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Odie Lee Guileng Vinson

Odie Lee Guileng Vinson died Wednesday. She was 84.

Mrs. Vinson was born June 1, 1916, in Scotland, Ark., to Arthur and Maudie Guileng.

Survivors include her four children, Ruby Fay Chartney and husband, Larry; James Alvin Vinson and wife, Betty; and Kenneth Ray Vinson and wife, Denise, all of Harrah; Donald Wayne Vinson and wife, Kathy, Luther; eight sisters, Opal, Gladys, Juanita, Mary, Vinnie, Winnie, Ruby and Marvela; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dave, a sister, Olie, and brother, Herman.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the First Assembly of God Church, Harrah. Burial will be at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.

Wera Lewis

Wera Lewis of Tecumseh died Wednesday in Tecumseh. She was 95.

She was born March 19, 1905, in Rising Star, Texas. She was the daughter of Samuel Dudley and Lula Pearl (Porterfield) Pollock.

She came to Shawnee at the age of 12 with her parents and had lived in the Tecumseh area since 1932. On June 1, 1922, she married John Raymond Lewis in Oklahoma City.

They had been married for 78 years. She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, and a member of the Rebekah's.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Anita Wilson; five brothers, Herman, Gus, Jack, Ross and Riley Pollock.

Survivors include husband, Raymond Lewis of Tecumseh; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Oleta Lewis of Tecumseh; one grandson, Don Lewis; great-grandchildren, Amy Lewis, Sean Lewis and Miranda Wilson; two great-great-grandchildren, Dakota and Sierra Lewis; three sisters, Flora Henry, Leona Thompson, both of Eufaula, and Juanita Trent of Midwest City; one brother, John Alexander Pollock of Napa, Idaho.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sharon Baptist Church with Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Raymond Block

Shawnee resident Raymond Block died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 70.

Services will be noon Monday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Diane Smith

Diane Smith of Earlsboro died Wednesday in Shawnee. She was 42.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Church of Christ, Tecumseh with Bob Anderson and Bill Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Other information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

George A. Winn

George A. "Corkey" Winn died Thursday in Oklahoma City. He was 72.

He was born Sept. 23, 1927, at Dustin, to Austin Winn and Estella Henry Winn. He was raised in Dustin and attended Dustin School.

As a young man he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean conflict. Following his discharge, he went to work for AT&T as a lineman.

All the while he worked for the telephone company he was also very busy as a horse trader. He began by making trips to Arizona and herding wild mustangs, which he would bring to Oklahoma, train them and sell them.

In 1963 he purchased a property near Shawnee that he called the Blowing W Ranch. While there he raised all kinds of livestock from cattle to stock dogs and even operated a Holstein dairy farm.

The Blowing W was home for the AQHA Quarter Horse shows and many calf-ropings. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone company as an installer in 1971, at which time he sold his ranch.

He remained in the Shawnee area until moving to Norman some five years ago. In 1984 he was married to Myra Knight.

He was a charter member of the Lions Club in Bethel Acres.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Monroe and Everett.

Survivors include his wife Myra, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Tony of Oklahoma City and Denis and Shelby of Tecumseh; a daughter, Tracy Maxwell of Newalla; two sisters, Eva Blevins and Lucy Mae McCallie of Wetumka; five grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Pete Criswell and Johnny Barney officiating. Burial will be in the Dustin Cemetery, under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Wetumka.

Mary M. Dossey

Mary M. Dossey of Dale died Friday at a local nursing home. She was 89.

Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Barney Leon Shirey

Barney Leon Shirey of Tecumseh died Friday in Shawnee. He was 79.

Services will be 4 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel, Tecumseh. Other information is pending.

Thelma M. Lawhon

Thelma M. Lawhon of Shawnee died Friday at a local nursing home. She was 84.

Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Shirley Ann Wise

Shawnee resident Shirley Ann Wise died Friday in a local hospital at the age of 61.

She was born May 6, 1940, in Shawnee to Bert and Maxine Bleakley.

She was married Gordon Tibbs Sr. who preceded her in death. She later married Billy Ray Wise.

She had lived in Shawnee since 1940 and was a member of Spirit Rain Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and second husband.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Denise Tibbs Jr. and Richard and Donna Tibbs, all of Shawnee; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jack Sliger of Tecumseh; a stepson, David

Wise of Tecumseh; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Karin and Elvin Lowery of Tecumseh and Sharon and Dennis Cotton of Norman; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Roberta and Jerry Danner of Shawnee and Bonnie and Johnnie Booker of Oklahoma City; a stepmother, Lena Bleakley of Shawnee; mother-in-law, Hazel Wise of Maud; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, C.L. and Josephine Wise of Tecumseh and Vernon and Linda Wise of Harjo; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Zela and Harold Brewer of Maud; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Roy Preston Floyd Sr.

Shawnee resident Roy Preston Floyd Sr. died Thursday in a local hospital at the age of 80.

He was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Chattanooga, Okla., to Ben and Ruth Floyd.

He attended Shawnee Schools and worked for Parker Drilling Company in South America and Africa.

Floyd married Helen Lee on Nov. 2, 1942, in Shawnee.

He served in the U.S. Army Infantry in World War II and was a Prisoner of War on Germany.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife Helen of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Jr. and Doris Floyd and Bruce and Karen Floyd, all of Yukon; a brother, Bill Floyd of Perry; four grandchildren two great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Dr. Bob Birdwell. Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.
