Terry Lee Thomas

Terry Lee Thomas, 50, Raleigh, N.C., died Sunday in Raleigh after a seven-month battle with cancer.

Thomas was born in Broken Arrow Aug. 9, 1950. He graduated from Porter High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University, as well as Southwest Community College. He served four years in the U.S. Army at the Panama Canal. He was in the real estate business in Raleigh where he lived since 1987.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lee and Margie Rowland and father, Noble Coy Thomas.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Ruth and Harold Dutton, both of Shawnee; a sister and brother-in-law, Myrna and Ronnie Wiles of Oklahoma City; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gary Gniech of Oklahoma City and the Rev. Steven and Pam Gniech of Tishomingo; one daughter, Erica Thomas; granddaughter, Emily Thomas; special friend, Gloria Floyd, all of Raleigh, N.C.; and four nephews and a niece.

Services were held Tuesday at the Mount Vernon Church of God with the Rev. Steven Gniech officiating.

Sonora Celestine Konechney

Sonora Celestine "Cis" Konechney, 94, Choctaw, died Wednesday.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Choctaw. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, in Choctaw.

The daughter of John and Alice (Smith) Tescier was born Sept. 17, 1906, in Choctaw. She attended Choctaw schools for 12 years before attending Hills Business College.

On Dec. 6, 1926, she married Harry Konechney. Mrs. Konechney was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years at First Baptist Church, Choctaw.

Preceding her in death were her husband and one daughter, Wanda Jo.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Shirley of Oklahoma City; daughter and son-in-law, Yetta and Ralph Clark of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives.

Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah, is in charge of arrangements.

Roma June (Moses) Evans

Roma June (Moses) Evans, Shawnee, died Tuesday in a local hospital at the age of 82.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1918.

She was a youth and adult Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years for a church in California, where she was also a choir member. She and her husband taught the youth at their church in San Angelo, Texas, as well.

Upon moving to Shawnee, she taught the young married class at her church. She most recently taught the senior adult women's Sunday school class at Fairview Baptist Church. Her service at Fairview spanned 23 years.

She served at Waukesha Motors in the Tulsa area and later for DuPont as a secretary. She was a secretary for First Baptist Church, Sapulpa, and personal secretary for R. Lofton Hudson of First Baptist Church, Shawnee.

She became the first female assistant branch manager for Security Pacific Bank in Fullerton, Calif. She retired after 20 years of service at the bank. After her retirement, she worked as secretary for Fair Oaks Baptist Church in Fair Oaks, Calif., and at Fairview Baptist Church of Shawnee for 13 years.

Evans was also a member and director of Women's Missionary Union, or Women on Missions.

Her husband, Estel W. Evans, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sharon; granddaughters, Dede, Jill and Lindsay; one great-granddaughter; a son-in-law, T.J., and five sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairview Baptist Church. The Rev. Richard Stillwell will officiate. Her cremains will be buried at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Southern Baptist International Mission Board, in care of Fairview Baptist Church, Shawnee.

Ava Gaye Wright Talton

Ava Gaye Wright Talton, 41, Shawnee, died Wednesday.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Temple of Praise and Deliverance, a half mile north of Interstate 40 on U.S. 177. Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Naomi Mae (Pitts) Richardson

Naomi Mae (Pitts) Richardson, 77, Verden, Okla., died Wednesday in Chickasha.

She was born Oct. 21, 1923, in Fort Cobb, the daughter of Stirling and Maud Pitts.

She and Glenn Richardson were married Jan. 6, 1945, in Tecumseh. Mrs. Richardson was a homemaker.

She spent her childhood in the Fort Cobb-Oney area, where she was a member of Highland Methodist Church and attended Grand Prairie Elementary School. She graduated in 1941 from Fort Cobb High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha since 1951.

During World War II, she was an electrician in airplane construction at Douglas Air Force Base.

Mrs. Richardson and her husband lived west of Binger for five years, moving to Ninnekah in 1950 and Chickasha in 1952. The couple relocated to their farm near Verden in 1957.

Mrs. Richardson was an active leader and supporter of school and community activities, including Verden PTA, school and athletic associations and Grady County 4-H Clubs. She was a representative and area manager for World Book.

The Richardsons were once the Oklahoma Farm Bureau State Farm Family of the Year.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Mildred Beason; and two brothers, Leo Pitts and Armor Pitts.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; three daughters and their families, Linda McElroy, Lisa and Greg, all of Purcell; Janel and Sam Hendry, Scott and Lauren, all of Shawnee; and Karen and Dean Cunningham, Michael and Daniel, all of Verden; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Ralph and Euda Pitts; Lorene Pitts, and Etta Pitts of California, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha. The Rev. Johnny Tims will officiate. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Marilee Francis Bolz

Marilee Francis Bolz, 77, Chandler, died Wednesday.

The daughter of Merideth Manuel and Cora May (Stanfill) Harris was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Chandler.

She and Raymond Neil Bolz were married Aug. 30, 1949, in Nevada. Mrs. Bolz, a homemaker, had lived in Chandler for many years.

Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, also of Chandler; son, Johnnie Leroy Christopher of Owasso; sister, Dorthy Alma Owen of Wellston; two sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wellston Cemetery. The Rev. Keith Cole will officiate. Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler, is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Lake Case Jones

Lillian Lake Case Jones, 87, Houston, Texas, died Sunday.

Mrs. Jones was born March 9, 1914, in Shawnee to Louise Case and Jesse Franklin Lake. The Shawnee High School graduate earned a degree in 1934 from Oklahoma Baptist University.

She was a school teacher, beginning her career in a one-room school house and later teaching elementary school in Denver, Colo., and Houston.

She married William Woodward Jones on June 1, 1941. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Shawnee, and later the First Presbyterian Church in Houston. She also was a member of the Afton Oaks Garden Club.

Survivors include two sons, Clay W. Jones, Washington, W. Va.; William Cliff Jones, Houston; five grandchildren, Matthew W. Jones, Ames, Iowa; Peter W. Jones, Palo Alto, Calif.; Kira M. Jones, Dillon H. Jones and Tristan Jones, all of Houston; a half sister, Rosanna Riley, Shawnee; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Evelyn Jones, Denver, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Prague Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Roach officiating. Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Terry Lynn Culberson Johnson

Terry Lynn Culberson Johnson, a former Wewoka resident, died Tuesday. She was 43.

Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 9, 1957, in Talihina to James and Lilliam (Gipson) Culberson. She grew up in the Wewoka area and was a 1976 graduate of Wewoka High School.

On Oct. 31, 1983, she married Curtis L. Johnson in Wewoka.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Joseph Harrison; two sons, Jonathon and Baby Boy Culberson; brother, James Wisdom; and sister, Mary Ann Culberson.

She is survived by her husband, of the home; three sons, Joshua L., Jeremiah J. and Joseph Johnson, all of the home; two brothers, Bennie Culberson, Wewoka; Kenneth Culberson, Tishomingo; and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at the Ministry of Life Church with the Rev. Dan Faulkner, the Rev. Larry Harrison and Robert Kernall officiating. Burial will be at the Harrison Family Cemetery. Stout Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kirk Miles Massie

Sparks resident Kirk Massie, 48, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born Sept. 16, 1952, to Tipton Yukon and Erma Jewell (Ohmert) Massie in Chandler. He married Pat Ann Hill July 22, 1969, and lived in Lincoln County all his life.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Ann Massie, Chandler; parents, Tipton and Jewell Massie, Chandler, one son, Kirk Massie Jr., Chandler; two daughters, Tracy Ann Beall and Tina Wakley, both of Chandler; one brother, Tipton Wayne Massie, Chandler; and one sister, Freida Ann McKey of Shawnee.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Chandler with the Rev. Keith Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Helen Fortune

Helen Fortune, 88, Vernon, Texas, died Wednesday in a Vernon hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born March 30, 1913, in Shawnee, the daughter of the late Homer and Ethel Gladwill Swink. On June 3, 1933, she and Clell W. Fortune were married in Shawnee.

Mrs. Fortune had lived in Vernon since 1959. A member of First Baptist Church, Vernon, Fortune worked as a housekeeper.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; two sisters, Mildred Stewart and Margaret Allen; and one brother, Bob Swink.

Survivors include her son, Dick Fortune of Vernon; three brothers, Harold Swink of Shawnee, Jack Swink of Shawnee and Jerry Swink of Port Isabel, Texas; a sister, Gladys Harmon of Shawnee; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today in the Wilbarger Memorial Park. Dr. Robert Prince will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home, Vernon.

Olive Widmayer

Olive Widmayer, 79, Choctaw, died Tuesday.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, in Choctaw.

She was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Muskegon, Mich., the daughter of Walter and Beatrice (Slater) Blanche.

She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Dorothy Blanche of Cedar Hill, Texas, and Terry Norris of Waldron, Ark.; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and David Sagel of Choctaw; two grandchildren, Aprille Sagel of Choctaw and Nicky Norris of Jefferson, Texas, as well as many other relatives.
