Robert Henry Hickman

Robert Henry "Bud" Hickman, 82, died Sunday in Stroud.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Gould Cemetery. Les Johnson will officiate.

The son of John and Mary (Trout) Hickman was born in Bowie, Texas, on May 6, 1919. He moved from Gould, Okla., to Stroud six years ago, where he was living at the time of his death.

He was affiliated with the Methodist church.

Hickman retired from Doran Chevrolet in Hobbs, N.M., where he worked as services manager.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On June 12, 1939, he and Opal June Cummings were married in Hollis, Okla.

His parents, two brothers and two sons, Bobby and Phillip, precede Hickman in death.

Survivors include his wife of the home; sons, Robert Danny Hickman and Terry W. Franklin, both of Stroud; daughters, Roberta Thompson of Stroud and La Wanna Burrous of Riverton, Wyo.; brothers, Lloyd Hickman of Gould and Ray Hickman of Tolovana, Ore.; sisters, Pauline Winn of Mangum and Wanda Williams of Yucaipa, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Services, Stroud.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.

Chad Michael Garrett

Norman resident Chad Michael Garrett, 16, died Saturday.

The son of Craig Garrett and Janice Janda was born in Midwest City on Jan. 24, 1985.

He was attending Norman High School North, where he was a member of the Timberwolves Football Team. He was an honor student who was active in his church's youth group.

His great-grandmothers, Ada Brewer, Ella Banks and Frankie Shipman, precede him in death.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Janice Kay and Ken Janda; brother, Nathan; grandparents, Leonard and Lucille Edmonds of Oklahoma City, Eugene Banks of Atoka; Winslow and Lucille Janda of Wilson, Kan., James and Sammie Garrett of Newalla, and Jack and Lois Hammontree of McLoud; great-grandmothers, Martha Popp, Ruby Janda and Frances Garrett; father and stepmother, Craig Allen and Becky Garrett, Newalla; brother, Ryan of Newalla; aunts and uncles, Patty and Nelson Brewer, Paula and Steve Sharp, Audrey Innes, Chris Garrett, Kent and Shawna Garrett, Jack and LeAnn Hammontree, Chris Hammontree and Paul and Barbara Hammontree; and many cousins.

Viewing will be held 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Havenbrook Funeral Home, Norman.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Norman First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Robert Adams will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home, Norman.

Memorials may be made to a fund at BancFirst of McLoud.

James C. Brock

Tecumseh resident James C. "Jack" Brock, 75, died Sunday in Oklahoma City.

He was born in Tecumseh on Dec. 29, 1925, the son of James C. "Jim" and Ida Alta May (Felts) Brock.

Brock had attended Tecumseh Schools until his senior year. He graduated from Macomb High School.

Brock worked in construction until his 1988 retirement. He had worked with Jordan Construction Co. in Tecumseh for a number of years.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Brock was a member of Thompson Heights Church of Christ.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Daisy Porter; and two brothers, Cecil Brock and Robert Brock.

Survivors include his wife, Modell Brock; daughters and sons-in-law, MaDonna and James Ellis of Tecumseh and Renee and Steve Knox of Edmond; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike Qualls and Tracey and Lori Qualls, all of Tecumseh, and Jim and Kim Qualls of Fort Smith, Ark.; grandchildren, Stephani Qualls and John Qualls, both of Tecumseh, Heather Qualls of Nashville, Tenn., Emily Qualls of Fort Smith, Ark., Lily Knox of Edmond, Skylar Qualls of Fort Smith, Ark., and Chloe Qualls of Tecumseh; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Terry Newell will officiate. Burial will be held at Avoca Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.

Dorotha Jean Peak

Former Shawnee resident Dorotha Jean Peak, 70, died Sunday at Baptist Medical Center in Sulphur.

She was born in Roff, Okla., on July 11, 1930, the daughter of Lawrence Walker and Pearl Morris.

On Sept. 11, 1948, she married Doyle Peak in Sulphur.

She was reared in the Lawrence community and had graduated from Fitzhugh High School.

In 1950, she moved to Sulphur, where she was living at the time of her death.

Peak worked as a clerk typist for the Department of Human Services before her retirement.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband of the home; sons, Tony Peak of Howard, Colo., and Danny Peak of Wynnewood; daughters, Sunny Wells of Sulphur and Judy Edwards of Vancouver Wash.; eight grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Wynn of Ada.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Drake Cemetery, Sulphur. The Rev. Eddie Malphrus will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Cowley-Krien Funeral Home, Sulphur.

Gwen Austin

Gwen Austin, 67, died Sunday in her Seminole home.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Vamoosa Cemetery with the Rev. Kelvin Moseley officiating.

Austin was born in Seminole on Aug. 31, 1933, the son of Jay and Elaine (Long) Austin.

She returned to Seminole in 1994 after living in Pittsburg, Calif.

She attended Vamoosa School.

Austin, a homemaker, was a member of The First Baptist Church, Seminole.

Her parents, two sons and one sister precede her in death.

Survivors include her stepmother, Imogene Austin of Seminole; son, Robert Burns of Pittsburg, Calif.; grandchildren, Angela Burns, Robert Burns, Trevor Burns and Kyalie Burns; stepgrandchild, Doug Brady; and two great-grandchildren.

Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, is in charge of arrangements.

Nola G. Harvick

Former Shawnee resident Nola G. "Mrs. A.P." Harvick died Wednesday at a nursing home in Eufaula at the age of 97.

She was born in Weatherford, Texas, on Feb. 24, 1904.

She and Arlie Preston Harvick were married in Gainsville, Texas, on Jan. 6, 1923.

Harvick was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Baptist church, Shawnee Rebekah Lodge No. 271, AARP No. 2654, World War I Auxiliary No. 2526, V.F.W. No. 1317 and the American Red Cross.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include her stepson and his wife, Preston and Irene Harvick of Hesperia, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

No services will be held at Harvick's request. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Fort Smith, Ark. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Frances Louise Wilson

Frances Louise Wilson died Sunday in a local nursing home at the age of 78.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Further announcements are pending under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Nellie Hargus Farthing Ishmael

Nellie Hargus Farthing Ishmael of Shawnee died Tuesday in Shawnee. She was 89.

She was born May 19, 1911, in Yellville, Ark., the daughter of Francis Wade and Mittie (Hurst) Lancaster.

She came to Pottawatomie County with her parents and lived near Maud. In 1930, she married James Bennett Hargus who preceded her in death. She lived in Shawnee for 15 years.

On March 4, 1947, she married Loyd Farthing in Hill City, Kan., and she moved to Sterling, Colo., where she lived for 20 years.

Farthing preceded her in death on July 9, 1971.

In 1982, she married Jess Ishmael and moved to Florida.

Mr. Ishmael preceded her in death. She lived in Florida for eight years before returning to Shawnee in January 1990.

She was a homemaker and she owned and operated a poodle grooming and breeding business for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Dick Hargus; son, Jim Hargus; four sisters, Mary Janieski, Anna Lowry, Mamie Daniels and Maudene Jones and two brothers, Howard Lancaster and Jess Lancaster.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Elma Hargus of Richardson, Texas; stepdaughter, Joy Hunderup of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren, Vicky Hargus of Richardson, Texas, and Steve Hargus of Sterling, Colo.; stepgrandchildren, Tia Hanvey of Dallas, Texas, and Cy Walker of Fairfax, Va.; great-grandchildren, Alysha Hargus and Benjamin Hargus; sister, and Nettie Lea of Shawnee.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. William H. Bentley officiating. Burial will be at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Rondal E. Flanagan

Rondal E. "Ron" Flanagan died Sunday at his home in Lake Como, Wis. He was 58.

He was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Bristow the son of Earl and Odessa (Ward) Flanagan.

He was a resident of Lake Como, Wis., for the past 17 years, He moved there from Chicago. He attended schools in Stroud and Prague and graduated from Wallace Idaho High School in 1959.

Flanagan was in the United States Navy from 1959-1961. He attended college in Evanston, Ill.

He owned and operated Flanagan's North recreation center in Lake Como.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl, and one brother, Jimmie.

Survivors include mother, Odessa Flanagan of Stroud; one brother, Michael Flanagan of Broken Arrow; two sisters, Carmelita Hampton of Lawton and Diane DeLong of Stroud; fiancé, Aline "Red" Quinn; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church in Stroud with the Rev. Don Wilburn officiating. Burial will be in the Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Stroud.
