John Henry Chesser

John Henry Chesser of Shawnee died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 59.

He was born Jan. 27, 1941, in Pineville, La., the son of John and Georgia Chesser.

He was reared in Shawnee. Chesser was a welder for Gilbert and Sons Trucking of Tecumseh.

He married Linda Johnson, Dec. 16, 1997, in Shawnee. He served three years in the United States Army.

Chesser was a member of the VFW Post 1317 and the DAV Chapter 54.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Chesser of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cory Lynn Chesser, Shawnee, and Crystal and Billy Campbell, Shawnee; three grandchildren; mother, Georgia Chesser, Dry Prong, La.; four sisters, Jettie McKinney, Shawnee, Dorothy Bolton, Texas, and Thelma and Ruby Duncan, both of Dry Prongs, La.; and brother, Floyd Chesser, Houston, Texas.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with Pastor Craig Brandt officiating. He will be buried next to his father in Lone Pine Cemetery in Bentley, La. Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel will be in charge of arrangements.

Mark Williams

Mark Williams of Shawnee died Thursday at a local hospital. He was 39.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Further arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Jean Swink

Jean Swink of Shawnee died Thursday at her home. She was 77.

She was born July 26, 1922, in Shawnee. She was the daughter of Charles and Mattie Carlton.

She attended and graduated from Shawnee High School. She was a homemaker.

In October 1940, she was married to Jack Darrell Swink in Chandler. She was a member of Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death a brother, four sisters, a son, Phillip Darrell Swink and an infant daughter, Nancy Lea Swink.

Survivors include husband Jack Swink of the home; two children, Luanne Reding of Shawnee and John Swink of Shawnee; granddaughter and spouse, Brandi and Randy Parsons of Shawnee; and great-grandson, K.C. Steadman of Shawnee.

The Rev. Phil Thompson officiated during a private service. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Memorial may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, designate Asthma Research, 825 N.E. 13th, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73104.

Moses Taylor Curtis

Moses Taylor Curtis, 89, of Wewoka died Friday in Oklahoma City.

He was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Adna, Wash., to Ben and Lessie (Lamb) Curtis.

At age 2 he moved with his parents to Arkansas and at 15 moved to New Mexico.

Following his marriage to Florene Vines on Dec. 5, 1936, in Mt. Ida, Ark., he moved back to Arkansas. In 1944 he moved to California and had lived in Oklahoma for the past six years.

Curtis earned a degree in horticulture.

He was a farmer most of his life and was employed by Soboba Springs Golf and Country Club as the greenskeeper.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and Fred Curtis; his parents; two sisters, Bertha Hood and Ruth Moore; and one brother, Paul Curtis.

Survivors include his wife, Florene Curtis of the home; one daughter, Donna Maye Sharp of Paris, Calif.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ben Curtis of Wewoka, James and Sharon Curtis of Elk Grove, Calif., and Anthony and Karen Curtis of Diamond Bar, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Lorelei Curtis of Wewoka; three sisters, Louvita Wakefield, Wanda Wagner and Norma Hood; three brothers, Lowell Curtis, Harvey Curtis and Talmage Curtis; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of God, Seventh Day of Shawnee.

Robert Reed

Shawnee resident Robert Reed, 75, died Thursday in Shawnee.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine Reed of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri and Dean Wood of Ardmore and Barbara and Tony Trent of Shawnee; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two stepsons, James and Jesse Savage and a stepdaughter, Christine Nancy Carr.

A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. today in Forest Hill Cemetery with Sister Pat Kirby officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Lee Spangler

Oklahoma City resident Lee Spangler died Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Keith Sparks officiating.

Other information is pending and will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Helen Eloy Bugg

Helen Eloy Bugg, 85, of Shawnee died Wednesday at her home.

She was born July 6, 1917, in Oklahoma City to Paul and Kathryn (Woodruff) Blankenship.

Bugg attended school in Oklahoma City, Shawnee and Dale.

She was a homemaker.

She married Clarence Shirley Bugg July 13, 1935, in Shawnee, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1998.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dale, and attended Liberty Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.

She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Kent Richardson of Panama City Beach, Fla., Linda and Rondy Arms, Janis Cotton, and Judy Bugg, all of Shawnee; two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Kathie (Batt) and Royce Briggs of Meeker and Debbie Batt of McLoud; five grandsons and their spouses, Bobby Goodin of Fort Worth, Texas, Kevin and Lisa Arms, Rondy Flick, Ryan and Keri Cotton and Bryan and Harper Arms, all of Shawnee; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Viola Starks of Eastham Cape Cod, Mass.; and one brother, Bill Blankenship.

Services will be 10 a.m. today at Blackburn Chapel Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Blackburn Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Robert Lee Neel

Robert Lee Neel, 75, of Wellston died Tuesday.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Timothy and Karen Neel of Hubert and Danny Neel of Tulsa; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Wayne Murphy of McLoud; a brother and sister-in-law, Ellis and Colleen Neel of Wagoner; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Foster of Wagoner and Helen and Willard Joyce of Checotah; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. today at Dale Cemetery.

Dawn Ferguson

Dawn Ferguson, 63, of Harrah died Wednesday.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Martha Ferguson of Del City and Kenneth and Marsha Ferguson of Mustang; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karla Ferguson of Harrah, B. Sharon and Jeff Wolff of Newport, Ore., and Jennifer and Joseph Mars of Choctaw; a brother, Randy Brinkerhoff of Riverton, Utah; four sisters, Carla Eddings of Mt. Vernon, Wash., Shelli Langston of Boise, Idaho, Merrilee Leigh of Everett, Wash., and Gemze Belfield of LaConnor, Wash.; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many other family members and friends.

The family will hold a private service 10 a.m. Wednesday in the home. Burial will follow at Evangelical Indian Meridian Cemetery.

Forrest Ray Lewis

Forrest Ray Lewis, 52, of Chandler died Friday.

Services are pending with Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Robert Dale Carey

Robert Dale "Bob" Carey of Fayetteville, Ark., who was born in Shawnee, died July 9 in Destin, Fla. He was 68.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Johnston Carey; two sons, Mike Carey and Jimmy Carey, both of Fayetteville, Ark.; a daughter, Etta Carey of Berlin, Germany; and a granddaughter.

Services were July 12 at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville with the Rev. Lowell E. Grisham officiating.

Joe Claud McQuerry

Joe Claud McQuerry of Meeker died Monday at a local hospital. He was 89.

He was born Aug. 20, 1910, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was the son of James Craven and Beulah Ann (Cobb) McQuerry.

He was a used car dealer. He was a member of the Highway Baptist Church in Little.

McQuerry lived most of his life in the Seminole area and had lived in Meeker for the past year and a half.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Mae McQuerry McKey on Oct. 12, 1999; and two sons, Joe McQuerry and J.D. McQuerry.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Carol McQuerry, Meeker; one daughter, Claudie Bailey, Shawnee; one daughter-in-law, Pat McQuerry Coker, Shawnee; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Matthews and the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Helen Marie Wilson

Longtime Shawnee resident Helen Marie Wilson died Wednesday at her home. She was 84.

She was born April 3, 1916, to William Arthur Jones and Alice Collison.

Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Aron J. Jenkins and Jack Wilson; and four sisters, Viola Meads, Rosa Jones, Dorothy Reagan and Elizabeth Williams.

Survivors include one daughter, Robin Jenkins Brown, Shawnee; one grandson, Aron J. West, Shawnee; one granddaughter and her husband, Rikki J. and Joey Volner, Sapulpa; four sisters, Marion Knight, Indianapolis, Ind., Lorene Honeywell, Shawnee, Rebecca Hauser, Waurika, and Alta Faye Thrower, Snyder, Texas; three brothers, Thomas Jones, Luther, Carl Jones, Cromwell, and Bill Jones, Cromwell; stepbrother, Johnny Archer, McLoud; two stepsisters, Mazie Ewing, Shawnee, and Nellie Smith, Oklahoma City; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Newalla, with Larry Townsend, Mrs. Wilson's nephew, officiating.

Barbara Strother

Barbara Strother died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. She was 47.

Mrs. Strother was born June 19, 1952, in Konawa, to Jackie Lynn Pamplin and Betty (White) Lowery.

She worked at O.S.I., a division of the Department of Corrections.

She lived in Oklahoma County.

Survivors include her father, Jackie Lynn Pamplin, Santa Maria, Calif.; mother, Betty Lowery, Wewoka; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Aurva Brown, Wewoka; three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Jim Lowery, Oklahoma City, James David and Martha Lowery, Fort Worth, Texas, and Michael and Tina Lowery, Tecumseh.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Parks Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Okemah with Roger Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Okemah.
