William Nathan Hobbs Jr.

William Nathan Hobbs Jr. died Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 74.

Hobbs was born March 1, 1926, in Waurika, the son of William and Laura Bell (Mayfield) Hobbs.

He grew up in Waurika and Hastings, and attended Holly Hill Elementary. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1944.

He married Lefredia Brown on Feb. 2, 1946, in Lawton.

Hobbs served with the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was an air craft mechanic and retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1966.

He lived in Purcell for seven years, having moved there from Paoli.

He was a member of the Southern Baptist faith, and pastored in many Oklahoma churches before retiring in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Gene Hobbs in 1954; his parents; three brothers, Chester, Bill and John Hobbs; six sisters, Addie Lee Hobbs, Dorothy Hobbs, Eula Trull, Martha Kyle, Murle Palmer and a baby sister.

Survivors include his wife, Lefredia Hobbs, of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tony and Chris Hobbs, Lynnwood, Wash., Ronnie Hobbs, Durant, and John and Karen Hobbs, Purcell; three daughters and a son-in-law, Helen and Bennett LeSuer, Linton, Ind., and Darlene Hobbs and Donna Hobbs, both of Purcell; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held Wednesday at Wadley's Funeral Chapel in Purcell. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, under the direction of Wadley's Funeral Service in Purcell.

Mary Edith Schafer

Seminole resident Mary Edith Schafer died Tuesday at Pioneer Nursing Home, Seminole. She was 80.

Mrs. Schafer was born in July 1919 in Wetumka to John Henry and Nancy Ada (Townsend) Tims. She married Grover Schafer on July 14, 1945.

She moved from Los Angeles, Calif., to Seminole in August 1979. She was a teletype operator for Sears & Roebuck Co.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Dunn, Seminole; grandchildren, Melissa and Kenny Niccum, Thomas and Mary Dunn, Joey and Mitchell Moreno; great-grandchildren, Alvin Walker Jr., Chad and Nicholas Niccum, Jordan Moreno; sister, Marie Stephens, Ada; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Jan. 4, 1981; two brothers; and two sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David McDougal. Burial will be Wetumka Cemetery.

Floyd Arley "Big John" Wallgren

Shawnee resident Floyd Arley "Big John" Wallgren died Sunday at age 80.

Wallgren was born April 29, 1921, in Asher to Frank Albert and Agnes Leah (Harper) Wallgren. He attended school at Moore, Pleasant Valley and Maud and was reared in the Maud area. He lived most of his life in Oklahoma, except for a few years when he lived in Texas and California.

He married Jessie Lou Ryan on Sept. 27, 1941, in Seminole. He worked in oil fields as a pumper in Oklahoma and Texas. In 1953, he began working in the construction business and retired in 1982. He continued to work as a pumper following retirement.

Wallgren was a member and deacon of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church and previously was a member of Romulus Baptist Church. He also was a member of Labor Union No. 612.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Floyd Buddy Wallgren; his parents, a sister, Geneva Youker; a brother, Lloyd E. Wallgren; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Lou Wallgren, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Martena Lou and A.D. Trammell of Macomb; a son and daughter-in-law, Monty Dale and DeCarla Wallgren of Earlsboro; a sister, Marion Eugenia Lamb of Tulsa; nine grandchildren, Debbie Tate, Joe Forshee, Shelbree Wilson, Teresa Holiday, Faith Craig, Holly Wallgren, Katie Wallgren, Bryan Bull and Meloney Johnson; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; and family friends Pat Kirby and Gary Riddle.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Shawnee, with the Rev. Edward Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

A.F. "Bill" Cotton

Wellston resident A.F. "Bill" Cotton died Tuesday in Oklahoma City. He was 94.

He is survived by a son and wife, Monte and LaVerne Cotton of Wellston; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Wellston with the Rev. Alan Small officiating. Burial will follow at Kolb Cemetery of Spencer. Arrangements are the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Mr. Cotton may be viewed at the Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel of Wellston.

Zelpha Mae Wall

Shawnee resident Zelpha Mae Wall died Monday at her home. She was 71.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Further arrangements will be announced by Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Joel Franklin Dinwiddie

Wewoka resident Joel Franklin Dinwiddie died Friday at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 46.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Donna Faye Dinwiddie, of the home; three sons, Jessie, Jacob and John Dinwiddie, of the home; two daughters, Kristy Balentine, Oklahoma City, and Amanda Dinwiddie, of the home; five brothers, Johnny Ray Dinwiddie, Bowlegs; Jim Dinwiddie, Seminole; Jerry Dinwiddie, Bowlegs; Jeff Dinwiddie, Wewoka; and Jerald Dinwiddie, Seminole; a sister, Joyce Williamson, Seminole; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Swearingen Chapel in Seminole with the Rev. Rick Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Charles Melvin Birge Jr.

Charles Melvin Birge Jr., 28, of Shawnee died Monday at his home.

He was born Sept. 24, 1973, in Shawnee, the son of Charles Melvin and Karen (Gallagher) Birge.

He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1974 and was a truck driver.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church and had lived in and around Shawnee all of his life.

Birge is survived by his parents and two daughters, Jasmine Dawn Birge of Shawnee and Karley Breanna Birge of Earlsboro.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Pink Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. David Wooten officiating. Burial will be in the Black Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Doyle K. Presley

Lifelong Seminole resident Doyle K. Presley, 54, died Sunday at a Shawnee hospital.

He was born Jan. 28, 1947, in Seminole to King and Edna Joseph Hodges Presley.

He was the owner and operator of Doyle's Quick Stop in Seminole and a member of Living World Church in Shawnee.

On Nov. 2, 1974, he married Brenda Jean Loudermilk in Wapanuka, Okla.

Presley is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Young.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Presley of the home; one brother, Delbert Presley, Norman; three sisters, Donna Wallace, Seminole, Darlene Mendenhall, St. Charles, Mo., and Doris Sanders, Norman.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Seminole with the Rev. Clifton Briscoe officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Swearington Funeral Home of Seminole.

Edrie L. Casey

Edrie L. Casey, 79, of McAlester died Monday at a McAlester nursing home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Stuart, Okla., the daughter of Britton M. and Mattie Lee (Larue) Lee.

Casey lived in Pittsburg County all her life.

She married Olen E. Casey on Feb. 25, 1942, in Friendship, Okla. For more than 20 years, the Caseys owned and operated restaurants in the McAlester area, including Casey's Drive-in, the Kitchenette Cafe, the Standard Truck Stop Restaurant in Savanna and Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Ada and McAlester.

She was a member of the Bugtussle Baptist Church and the Savanna Order of Eastern Star. She was a longtime member of the Pittsburg County Democratic Party and had served as a precinct chairwoman.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Larry Lee Casey; two sisters, Norma Dicus and Elizabeth Paris; and two brothers, Britton Lee and Baxter Lee.

Survivors include a son Terry W. Casey of McAlester; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Lynn and Tommy Busby of Chickasha; a sister, Violeeta Jordan; six grandchildren and their spouses, Tasha Casey of Oklahoma City, Melissa Casey of Macomb, Jennifer and Erik Terry of Miami, Fla., Casey Parrish of Oklahoma City, Jeff and Melissa Busby of Purcell, and Carla and Trevor Stroh of Milsap, Texas; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mills Funeral Home Chapel, McALester, with the Rev., James Collins officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Mills Funeral Home.

Robert Floyd "Peanuts" Gearhardt

Robert Floyd "Peanuts" Gearhardt, 60, of Shawnee died Tuesday at a local hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Gearhardt of Shawnee; his mother, Irma Marie Gearhardt of Shawnee; three daughters, Mindy Jo Tate, Roqel Louise Gearhardt and Misty Marie Gearhardt; three sons, Robert Gearhardt Jr., David Allen Gearhardt and Clinton Dee Gearhardt; a brother, Harold Gearhardt of Shawnee; a sister, Kathy Smith of Shawnee; a granddaughter; a grandson; nieces and nephews and an aunt.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at the Tecumseh Cemetery with the Rev. Leon Lutts officiating.

Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Richard York

Richard "Dick" York, 69, of Inola died Wednesday in Tulsa.

He was born July 20, 1932 in Chicago, Ill.

York was a plant manager for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He was a member of the Akdar Shrine, Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Patsy York; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Raymond Creel of Shawnee; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Janice York of Inola; six grandchildren, Ryan and Drew Creel of Shawnee and Danny, Shannon, Robert and Randy York of Inola.

Services will 12:30 p.m. today at Floral Haven Funeral Home chapel in Broken Arrow, Okla. Arrangements are being handled by Floral Haven Funeral Home.

Shelby Brimm

Shelby Brimm, 85, died Wednesday in Oklahoma City.

He was born Dec. 24, 1916, in Conway, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his parents; a brother; and a sister.

Survivors include a brother, Louie Brimm; a sister, Margie Kimery; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Carl Cheshier; two grandchildren and spouse, Becki Mitchell of Oklahoma City and Phil and Katrina Cheshier of Fort Smith, Ark.; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.

A service will be 1 p.m. today at Southern Oaks Freewill Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Burial will be in the Prague Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Baggerley-South Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

Louise C. (Schiltz) Marak

Louise C. (Schiltz) Marak, 74, of Meeker died Wednesday at a local hospital.

Services are pending with Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.
