D.A. Briggs
Shawnee resident D.A. Briggs, 90, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, in a local hospital.
D.A. Briggs was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Wanette, to Ernest Daniel Briggs and Minnie (Johnson) Briggs.
He grew up in the south Pottawatomie County area near Wanette.
He received his elementary education at Boyer School, east of Wanette. He received his high school education at Wanette High School, where he played football and basketball.
On Dec. 10, 1938, he married Edna Rosemary Dawson at the First Baptist Church parsonage in Asher. He and his wife made their home in the Wanette area until 1941 where their daughter, Patsy Karen, was born.
In August 1941, he and his wife and daughter moved to Oklahoma City where he worked in the oil fields and for Douglas Aircraft.
In 1945, he entered the U.S. Army Air Corp. and served during World War II. When he returned from the military service he and his wife and daughter returned to the Wanette area and was employed by the Thomas N. Berry Oil Co. of Stillwater.
In 1949, he and his family moved to Wetumka. During that time his second daughter, Donna Kay, was born. In 1950, he and his family moved to Weleetka, where he lived for 21 years. During those years he worked in the oil fields at Seminole, Weleetka, Shawnee, and other surrounding areas. Also during this time he was a member of the First Methodist Church of Weleetka, the Weleetka School Board, and of the Weleetka City Council.
While in Weleetka, he saw his two daughters through elementary, high school, into college and married.
In 1971, he was made production manager for Thomas N. Berry Oil Co. of Stillwater, and he and wife moved to Stillwater, where they made their home until 1982, when he retired from the company after 36 years of service.
In 1982, he and his wife moved to Ripley where they built a new home. He had his membership in the First Methodist Church of Weleetka transferred to Ripley United Methodist Church.
In Ripley he worked for an oil co. until 1991. He served two terms on the Ripley Town Council, and was an active member and volunteer at the Ripley Senior Citizens Center. They later moved to Cushing for six years and have resided in Shawnee over the past two years.
Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Briggs of the home; two daughters, Patsy Hodge and husband, Tom, of Oklahoma City and Donna Harjo and husband, Bill, of Sapulpa, four grandchildren, David Hodge and wife, Wendy, of Oklahoma City, Dean Hodge and wife, Jana, of Moore, Kristie Harjo of Sapulpa, Brian Harjo and wife, Tina, of Sapulpa; three great-grandchildren, Jackson Daniel Hodge, McKenzie Hodge and Britton Hodge; two sisters, Nadine Waller of Palestine, Texas, Bertie Lee Ward of Palestine, Texas; brother-in-law, Jack Dawson and wife, Rosie, of Shawnee; sister-in-law, LaVerne Dawson of Wanette; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wanette Cemetery Chapel. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery.
A.D. Trammell
Macomb resident A.D. Trammell, 74, died Saturday, Oct. 2, in Macomb.
He was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Coal Springs to Alvis O'Neal and Elsie (Long) Trammell.
He graduated from Macomb High School.
He managed filling stations for Phillips Oil Company for several years. He worked for Smith's Drilling Company for a short time before beginning his career in the insurance business. He worked for Mutual of Omaha for 14 years, American General for 10 years and Wichita National until retiring in 2000.
He belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He was preceded in death by his father; father-in-law, Floyd Wallgren; son, Brad Trammell; son-in-law, Nathan Tate; brother, Billy Don Trammell; stepdaughter, Tina Marie Sandefer.
Survivors include his wife, Martena Trammell, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Patti Trammell of Tecumseh, Joe and Katie Forshee of Broken Bow, and Anthony Trammell of Oklahoma City; daughters, Kay Cluck of Shawnee and Debbie Tate of Houston; mother, Elsie Mae Trammell of Tecumseh; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Luther and Nadine Trammell of Bethel Acres; sisters, Peggy Sliger of Shawnee and Dorothy Jeppe of Oklahoma City; mother-in-law, Lou Wallgren of Shawnee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Monty and Carla Wallgren of Earlsboro.
Service will be 2 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Alan Cluck officiating. Burial will be at Romulus Cemetery.
Tina Ann Hines
Tina Ann Little Thunder-Hines, 43, died Sunday, Oct. 3, at a local hospital.
She was born Jan. 15, 1961, in San Diego, Calif., the daughter of John and Francis Silva-McKinney.
She attended school in National City, Calif.
Little Thunder-Hines was a cook at Unity Health Center, North Campus. She also worked as a caregiver CMA at Rose Manor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hines Dec. 31, 2003; a granddaughter, Alexandria Hair; and brother-in-law; Terry Wapskineh
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Jason Little Thunder and David and Tillie Little Thunder, all of Shawnee; daughters and sons-in-law, Jenni and Arthur Hair, Shawnee, and Becky and Charles Gibson, Tecumseh; five grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Ledbetter, San Diego, Calif., and Johnny and Christine McKinney, Earlsboro; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta and Mike Tall Bear, Asher, Alicia McKinney and Cecilia and Mark Noteware, all of Shawnee, and Karen Silva, Stockton, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 7:30 p.m. today at Horse Shoe Bend on Gar rett's Lake Road, with the Rev. Houston Tiger officiating.

Maxine Mary Bessinger
Maxine Mary (Brown) Bessinger, 85, died Friday, Oct. 1, in Midwest City.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Asa Smith Memorial Chapel in Harrah with the Rev. Jim McCool officiating. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Newalla. Smith-Parks Funeral Service in Harrah is directing arrangements.
Tina Stone
Tecumseh resident Tina Stone, 82, died Saturday, Oct. 2, in Shawnee.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel.
Further arrangements will be announced by Cooper Funeral Home.
Sherman G. Mendenhall
Prague resident Sherman G. "Shorty" Mendenhall, 56, died Sunday, Oct. 3, at his home.
He was born April 13, 1948, in Gore to Paul and Irene (Chandler) Mendenhall.
He was in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam during his military career. He was a member of the Purple Heart Association.
He was a mechanic and welder.
On April 19, 1969, he married Sandy Carver in Fort Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two nephews.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Mendenhall, of the home; one son, Paul Glenn Mendenhall of the home; one daughter, Lisa Sue Mendenhall of the home; father, Paul Mendenhall of Porum; one brother and sister-in-law, Dannie and Regina Mendenhall of Lawton; sister and brother-in-law, Marsha Rene and Robbie Robertson of Porum; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Ray and Mary Carver and Dean and Jean Raines, all of Prague; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at White Cemetery in Gore with the Rev. Starland Davis officiating.

Helen Spoon
Shawnee resident Helen Spoon, 65, died Saturday, Oct. 2, in Shawnee.
She was born July 28, 1939, in Sleeper, Mo., to Ernest George and Eva (Thompson) Riemensneider.
She graduated high school in Dixon, Mo., and received her bachelor's degree at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo., and her master's degree from the University of Missouri.
She taught school for more than 40 years, starting in Iberia, Mo. In 1973 she moved to Tecumseh and taught school and served as librarian. She also taught at Maud, Shawnee and Bartlesville until her retirement in 2001.
Following her retirement, she spent her time knitting hats and blankets for Hospice in Shawnee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mary Riemensneider.
Survivors include four sons and three daughters-in-law, David and Patti Bade of the home, Jim and Sharon Bade of Felt, Steve and Kathlene Bade of Vienna, N.J. and Jason Johns of Louisiana; nine grandchildren; sister, Sara Mitchell of Columbia, Mo.; brothers, Ralph Riemensneider of Iberia, Mo., Louis Riemensneider of Kansas City, Mo., and Everett Riemensnieder of Iberia, Mo.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Bill Crawford officiating. Cooper Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
Oris Allen Farris
Shawnee resident Oris Allen (O.A.) Farris, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 3, in Ardmore.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Resthaven Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
Nancy Lou Somsen
Tecumseh resident formerly of Riverside, Calif., Nancy Lou Somsen, 63, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, due to a heart attack brought on by respiratory failure at Shawnee Unity North Hospital.
Nancy was born Sept. 26, in Crown Point, Ind.
She graduated from Bellflower High School, Bellflower, Calif., in 1961.
She was a sales clerk at the Riverside Mervyns for 23 years where she retired from in 2005.
Nancy was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Nancy will be remembered as an outstanding individual.
Simply stated, Nancy was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Nancy leaves behind her legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Nancy Lou Somsen
Nancy is survived by her partner, John Roland of the home in Tecumseh; daughters and son-in-laws, Tammy Johnson and husband, Scott, of Nevada, Tracy Somsen of Tecumseh, Charlene Hildebrandt and husband, Scott, of Riverside, Calif.; brothers, Lloyd Tolen and wife, Carol, of Long Beach, Calif., and Alan Tolen and wife Loretta, of Bellflower, Calif.; sister, Judy Schorg and husband, Roger, of Riverside, Calif.; grandchildren, Krystal Hayes and husband, Jacob, of Tennessee, Nichole Salinas and husband, James, of Nevada, Shane Kissinger of Tecumseh, BreAnn Johnson of Nevada, Emalee Hildebrandt of Riverside, Calif., and Kyle Somsen of Tecumseh.
She was laid to rest Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Riverside Calif.
Memorial service will be 5 p.m. Saturday at South Rock Creek Baptist Church, 44900 Hardesty Rd., Shawnee.
Jannie L. Parks
Tecumseh resident Jannie L. Parks, 61, passed away Monday, Oct. 1, in Tecumseh.
She was born March 11, 1946, Frederick, Okla., to Josh Grover and Noda Belva (Griffith) Crow.
She was raised in Poteau, Okla. She lived her adult life in Tecumseh. Following her marriage she visited Texas, Europe, Oklahoma City and Enid.
She was a graduate of Wister High School in Wister, Okla. She also attended Carl Albert Community College.
She married James C. Parks, Aug. 1, 1970, in Heavener, Okla.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, James C. Parks of the home; two sons, John W. "Foggy" Parks of Shawnee and Jordan D. "Moose" Parks and his fianc, Jen Meledeo, of Oklahoma City; granddaughters, Jasmine "Jazzy" Parks and Jamisen "Jamie" Parks both of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Sue Burlew of Poteau, and many friends and family.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William H. Bentley officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery.
