Harvey Van Dean

Harvey Van Dean, 56, Shawnee, died Friday at his home.

He was born Jan. 8, 1946, in Shawnee to Luther and Geneva Sikes.

Dean was a ranch hand for Howard Tommie, and had served in the U.S. Air Force.

He lived in the Shawnee area for the past five years.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Surviving are his son, Shawn Dean; brother, Luther Dean Jr., of Spencer; and several aunts and uncles.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Mike Raines officiating.

Burial will follow in Garden Grove Cemetery under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Dennis T. Littleton

Dennis T. Littleton, 78, of Oklahoma City died Saturday in an Oklahoma City nursing home.

He was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Shawnee to Dennie Littleton and Bertha (Jaggers) Littleton.

Littleton attended school in Shawnee. He worked for the Sunshine Biscuit Company and later he worked in sales as an importer.

On Oct. 16, 1940, he married Geraldine Epperson in Omaha, Neb.

Littleton served in the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1947 in the South Pacific.

He was a member of Capitol Hill Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, commander and life member of the American Legion and served many roles in the church and community.

He lived in Oklahoma City for the last several years after spending 37 years in Torrance, Calif.

Littleton was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tom and H.E. Littleton.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine, of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Bob Bridges of Topeka, Kan., and DeAnn Ramaley of Torrance, Calif.; six grandchildren, Gary Ramaley, Kerri Ramaley, Carolyn Ramaley, Jacob Bridges, Julie Bridges and Lori Bridges; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Billie Epperson of Sapulpa, Douglas and Esther Epperson of Salinas, Calif., and Marshall Epperson of Bayard, N.M.; four great-grandsons, all of Torrance, Calif.; and great aunt, Bertha Troop.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Burkett officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Home.

Bobby Murphy

Bobby Murphy, 69, of Shawnee died Friday.

He was born Feb. 25, 1933, in Lindsey, Okla., to John and Louise Murphy. He was born and raised in Lindsey, and was a Shawnee resident more than 50 years.

Murphy was a graduate of Lindsey High School.

On April 2, 1986, he married Loretta Spencer in Kansas.

He worked in the asphalt business for many years and retired in 1993.

Murphy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother and two grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Murphy, of the home; three sons, Robert Smith of Kansas, John Morrel of Tulsa and Reece Peters of Ardmore; seven daughters, Debbie Bumus, Gail Murphy, Angie Murphy and Bobbie Murphy, all of Kansas, Lillian Peters, Elizabeth Richardson and Sandy Peters, all of Shawnee; father, John Murphy of Lindsey; five brothers and one sister; numerous grandchildren; and two aunts, Martha Welch and Geneva Fox.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Joe Bender and Jimmy Don Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Troy Lee Ward

Troy Lee Ward died Saturday. He was 75.

Ward was born in Asher Nov. 19, 1923, the son of Clyde William Ward and Margie Bell (Bettis) Ward.

He was married to Alba Mae Guinn in Wewoka on March 30, 1945, and the couple had made their home in the Pottawatomie County area since that time. Ward was an elder in the First Christian Church of Meeker, and was 32nd degree Mason in the Meeker Masonic Lodge.

He was a self-employed dairy farmer for many years, and also owned and operated a trucking company from 1968 to 1984.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.

Surviving are his wife, Alba Mae Ward, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Buddy Case of Meeker; two granddaughters, Lori Case and Lisa Case, both of Meeker; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be at the Parks Brothers Chapel in Meeker until noon Tuesday.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Meeker First Christian Church with the Rev. Don Campo officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home of Prague.

William D. Bowie Sr.

William D. "Bill" Bowie Sr. of Tecumseh died Saturday. He was 74.

He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Roy and Moneta (Myers) Bowie, and graduated from St. Benedict's Catholic School in 1943, and from West Texas State College in Canyon in 1953.

He married Virginia S. Brooks on Feb. 5, 1947, in Crawford, Ark.

Bowie was reared in Shawnee. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a flight engineer on B-17's and B-24's in the Allutian Islands.

He lived in Canyon, Texas, from 1954 to 1960, and while there, he nearly completed his master's degree. He also taught industrial art at Thomas Lubbock High School.

In 1960, he moved to Tecumseh and owned and operated AAA Sign Co. for 15 years. He started Midstate Waste Management as a family operation, serving as president and CEO until it merged with BFI on Feb. 1, 1999.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia S. Bowie of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debi and Jerald Malone of Tecumseh; Michelle and Anthony Elliott of Shawnee; two sons and daughters-in-law, William D. "Bill" Bowie Jr. and Donna Bowie, and William Keith and Crystal Bowie, all of Tecumseh; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are 3 p.m. Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee with the Rev. Ron Baldridge officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel.

Oscar D. Messer

Oscar D. Messer of Prague died Sunday. He was 80.

He was born Jan. 3, 1919, north of Kendrick, Okla., the son of Lew and Lizzie (Debord) Messer. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Prague and was a retired barber.

He married Pauline L. Dunn in Davenport in 1947, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 21, 1996. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, six brothers and one son, Keith Messer.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar Jr. and Debbie Messer of Prague; Mark and Beth Messer of Prague; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and W.B. "Dub" Melton of Stroud; one brother, Virgil "Sonny" Messer of Stroud; five sisters, Wanda Treanor of Stroud; Bernice Farr of Oklahoma City, Mary Vickers of Kendrick; Ethel Ernest of San Pedro, Calif., and Mamie Michels of Calhoun, Ill; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at White Dove Cemetery in Sparks with Pastor Bob Croucher officiating. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Prague.

Eula Mae Sawyer

Former Seminole County resident Eula Mae Sawyer of Ada died Saturday in an Ada hospital. She was 73.

She was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Cromwell to Walter Burleson and Ruby Ora (Boatman) Burleson. She was a homemaker and a former secretary in Texas for many years.

She was a former member of Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Barbara Hearon, her mother, and a sister, Ernestine Gentry.

Surviving are her father, Walter Burleson of Wewoka; son Wesley H. Sawyer of Yukon; a daughter, Gloria Patterson of Odessa, Texas; brothers James Walter Burleson of Sherman, Texas; Walter Burleson Jr. of Chandler; sister Imogene Nelson of Ada; Nona Sue Hartsell of Houston, Texas; and Reba Harris of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Tommy Dwaine Glassock

Longtime McLoud resident Tommy Dwaine Glassock, 68, died Sunday at Midwest City.

Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at BrownÕs Funeral Chapel, Atoka, with the Rev. James Crowson officiating. Burial will follow at the Wesley Cemetery.

Glasscock was born Sept. 11, 1930, at Wesley, Okla., to W.A. and Estelline Crowson Glasscock. He attended grade school at Wesley and graduated in 1947 from Pittsburg High School. He attended Southeastern State University, and later graduated from Oklahoma A&M, now Oklahoma State University, with a degree in animal science.

Glasscock was married to Christine Rozak on Sept. 18, 1970, in Shawnee.

He retired after 32 years service with Tinker Air Force Base. At the time of his retirement, he was an item management supervisor at the Air Logistics Center. He also raised cattle.

Glasscock served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a staff sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion, the Oklahoma and the American Quarter Horse Association and, in earlier years, he participated in rodeos and was a member of the Rodeo Cowboys Association.

Survivors include his wife, Chris, of the home in McLoud; daughter, Leta Watkins and husband, Don, of Stuart, Okla.; father, W.A. Glasscock, Wesley; grandchildren, Lisa Simone and husband, Chris, of Wichita, Kan., Michael and Kelly Pagonis, both of Oklahoma City; one great-grandson, Mason Simone, Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Bill Edd Glasscock and wife, Barbara, Wesley; five sisters, Dorotha Burns, Roswell, N.M., Gwyn Meaders, Randlett, Okla., Wyna Grippardo and husband, Charlie, of Krebbs, Okla., Ruth Lafevers and husband, John, of Eufaula, Kay Horn, Wesley, and numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Estelline Glasscock, and son, Wade Glasscock.

Charles Vass

Former Seminole resident Charles Vass of Shawnee died Saturday in a local hospital at the age of 62.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Morrison officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel.

Charles Vass was born March 12, 1937, in Seminole, the son of Thurman and Lela Vass. He was schooled at Prairie Valley and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He was Baptist.

He had lived in the Seminole area most of his life and in Shawnee for two years.

His father preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Vass, of the home; son, Charles Michael Vass, Seminole; daughters, Denise North, Jenen Vass-Factor, both of Seminole; seven grandchildren; mother, Lela Vass, Shawnee; sister, Judy Smith, Hazeville, Kan., and brothers, Tommy Vass, Ada, and Jerry Vass, Paden.

Brandon Dillon Lozer

Brandon Dillon Lozer of Seminole died Sunday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 14 days old.

He was born May 31, 1999, to Steven Dwayne and Michelle Darlene (Johnson) Lozer, who have lived in Seminole most of their lives.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Joshua Lozer of Seminole; a sister, Ashley Lozer of Seminole; two half brothers, Tony and Jeffrey Cooper Smith of San Antonio, Texas; grandparents, Michael and Cindy Johnson of Meeker and Sherry Lozer of Seminole and George Lozer of Shawnee.

Graveside services will be noon Wednesday at Resthaven Memorial Park with the Rev. Harold Turner officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
