Clyde L. Rockwell

Longtime Seminole resident Clyde L. Rockwell of Shawnee died Saturday. He was 79.

He was born May 25, 1920, in Healdton, Okla., to Clyde Leslie Rockwell Sr. and Emma Elizabeth (Yoho) Rockwell. He married Mary Kate Kilgore on Nov. 2, 1956, in Seminole, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 1999.

He retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1976, and worked for Seminole Ford Co. as a mechanic. He was a member of the Little (Okla.) Church of Christ.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, and a daughter.

Surviving are a daughter, Trudy Ozeretny of Shawnee; six grandchildren, Rodney and Robin McGinnis, Glen Able, Kimberly Wares, Todd Marquis, and Cory Ozeretny; three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Little Cemetery with Rusty Dawson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Bert Walter Hardin

Bert Walter Hardin of Seminole died Monday at his home. He was 83.

He was born Nov. 19, 1915, in Keifer, Okla., to Edward Hardin and Bertie Eula (McCullen) Hardin. He married Margaret Harris on Aug. 12, 1985.

He was the co-owner of Curry-Hardin Furniture for more than 50 years and served in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army.

Hardin was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion for 52 years, and a Masonic Lodge member for 50 years. He was also an Eagle Scout.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his four children, Helen Hardin, and his second wife, Zelma Hardin.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Hardin of the home; three sons, Edward and Suzanne Hardin of Seminole; Dr. Walter Hardin of Aloha, Ore.; Joe and Nancy Hardin of Seminole; daughter Frieda and Frank Dunlap of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepsons, Don and Richard Northcott of Seminole; Ed Northcott of Mead; Tom Northcott of Oklahoma City; Bob Northrip of Seminole; stepdaughters, Sybil Turner of Mead; Judy Oates and Janie Owens of LaPorte, Texas; two sisters, Pearl Curry of Seminole and Verba Krasowski of Shawnee; six grandchildren, Rusty, Lindsay, Jared, Carissa, Malia, and Alyssa; and 11 step-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Karges officiating. Burial will be in Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

William H. Jones

William H. "Bill" Jones of Shawnee died Saturday at a local nursing home. He was 82.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.

He was born July 14, 1916, in Newcastle, Texas, to Roland Hugh and Flora Anne (Blancett) Jones. He married Jerry Ragsdale in 1942 and she preceded him in death in May 1958.

He married Jean Graves in 1970.

Jones had been office manager at Central Plastics and retired in 1979.

Also preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Jean G. Jones, of the home; three daughters, Ann West Bogard, Karen Jones French, both of North Dallas, Texas; Terry Jones Sayles, Irving, Texas; stepdaughter, Kathy Wavers Stinson, Perkins; stepson, Nick Wavers, Houston, Texas, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

W.F. Griggs

W.F. Griggs, 81, of Stroud died Wednesday.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Chuck Murdock of Tulsa; two grandchildren and Diana McGee; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lakeview Cemetery in Marietta. Military Honor Guard and a chaplain from Fort Sill, Okla., will be performing military rites. Services are under the direction of Parks Funeral Service of Stroud.

Adele Anna Manning

Adele Anna (Willey) Manning, 85, of Stroud died Thursday.

Survivors include one son, Charles Manning of Sun City, Ariz; one sister, Oletta English of Stroud; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel of Stroud with the Rev. Joe Molencupp officiating. Burial will follow at Stroud Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Stroud.

Billye Jean Smith

Billye Jean Smith, 77, of Shawnee died Thursday.

She was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Vernon, Texas, to William Temple and Faye (Dooley) Vaughn.

She moved to Gladewater, Texas, as a child and returned to Vernon following her marriage.

In 1966 she moved to Shawnee.

In December 1943, she married William Ben "W.B." Smith Jr. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Smith worked in the classified department of The Shawnee News-Star for 15 years until her retirement.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bill "Fuzzy" Smith; and brother, Don Vaughn.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bill Harwell of Tecumseh; two granddaughters, Heather Harwell of Tyler, Texas, and Ellen Harwell of Tecumseh; great-grandson, Will Harwell of Tecumseh; one brother and sister-in-law, R.T. and Barbara Vaughn of Richardson, Texas; one sister, Martha Maxwell of Gladewater; one sister-in-law, Joy Vaughn of Hurst, Texas; special friends, J.R. and Ellen June Hamilton of Vernon, Grant and Jack Barrick and Tim and Jamie Barrick of Shawnee; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Will Bentley officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Mable (Sneed) Stillwell

Mable (Sneed) Stillwell, 72, of Seminole died Monday in her home.

She is survived by her husband, Earnest Stillwell of the home; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Earnestine Galbreath, Sheretha Kay Stillwell, Janie and Lewis Haywood and Helen and Charles Perkins; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmy Stillwell and Tonie and Earnest Stillwell Jr.; a sister, Willie Mae Saunders; a brother, John Sneed; a niece, Johnnie Mae Foxx; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Ray Curry officiating. Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery.

Marvin Chester Walter
The Rev. Marvin Chester Walter, 84, of Stillwater died Thursday at his residence.

He was born July 8, 1917, in Mount Vernon, Ark., to William and Mae (Hill) Walter.

He married Essie Satterwhite July 7, 1934, in Centerville, Ark. He was raised in Rosebud, Ark., and farmed before being called to the ministry in 1936.

He was an ordained minister for 65 years, pastoring churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma and west Texas. He pastored the final four years of his ministry in Shawnee before retiring in 1984. After retirement, he served as a fill-in pastor for several years. He made four trips to Israel to visit the Holy Land. He was of the Assembly of God Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, a son-in-law, James McLaughlin; a daughter-in-law, Delynda Walter; and a great-granddaughter, Cynthia LeAnne Russell.

Survivors include his wife, Essie Walter; a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. James and Delores Walter of Shawnee; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ida Mae and Elbert Caldwell of Little Rock, Ark., and Diane and the Rev. Don Russell of Stillwater; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dewayne and Mary Walter of Norman, Johnny and Gwendelyn McLaughlin of Oklahoma City, Lynn and Mark Leonard of Bowie, Texas, and Tabitha and Alvin Cook of Moore; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the River of Life Church of Stillwater. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery of Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home of Stillwater.

Madelaine Rose Nuckolls
Maud resident Madelaine Rose Nuckolls, 79, died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Oklahoma City.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Nuckolls of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Martin and Gaye Nuckolls of Irving, Texas, George and Leslie Nuckolls of Seminole and Henry and Vicki Nuckolls of Irving; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister Carmon Maki of Rochester, Alberta, Canada; and a brother, Roland Gattolliat of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church of Maud with the Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery at 2 p.m. under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Ann Elaine Booker McClain

Longtime Shawnee resident Ann Elaine Booker McClain died Tuesday at her home. She was 52.

Mrs. McClain was born July 21, 1946, in Shawnee to Edward Brooks Booker and Laurice (Carter) Booker. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1964.

She was an outreach worker for Project Heart of Shawnee and was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church and Excelsion Federated Women's Club of Shawnee.

Survivors include three sons, James William McClain, Oklahoma City; Monte LaVelle McClain, McLoud; Geoffrey Lee McClain, Shawnee; daughter, Laurice Felicia McClain, Shawnee; eight grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Edward Eugene and Linda Booker, Oklahoma City; sisters and brothers-in-law, Julia Ann and Walter Cudjoe, Lawton; Lowetta Marie and Tommy Myers, Oakwood, Texas; sister, Bessie Mae Booker, Oklahoma City; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four grandparents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Union Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Clifton Broadous officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel.

Sandra Knight Hathaway

Former Shawnee resident Sandra Knight Hathaway died April 21 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz. She was 60.

Mrs. Hathaway was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Madera, Calif. She had also lived in Sherman, Texas, and was a resident of Glendale, Ariz.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Mike Deac, Phoenix, Ariz.; Debbie and Robert White, Sherman, Texas; son, Larry Knight, Sherman, Texas; grandchildren, Elizabeth Deac, Derek Deac, Michele White, Kathy Durham, Chris White, Andrew White, Leslie Knight, Buffy Knight, Christina Knight and Larry Knight; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to any agency caring for neglected animals.

Ova Lambdin

Shawnee resident Ova Lambdin died Tuesday at a local hospital. She was 92.

Mrs. Lambdin was born July 27, 1906, in Wizard Wells, Texas, to William Nelson and Texie Nelson. She married Donald Bruce Lambdin on April 4, 1952, in Johnson City, Texas.

She was a retired secretary with Adjustment Services of Oklahoma and was involved with the Elks Lodge in Lawton for many years. She had lived in Shawnee since 1980.

Survivors include her sister, Rubena Keen, Bay City, Texas; son-in-law, George Lee, Shawnee; grandsons and their wives, Michael and Patty Lee, Clinton; Craig and Belinda Lee, Tecumseh; grandson, Richard Lee, Shawnee; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, two brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Memorial graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Highland Cemetery in Lawton under the direction of Gaskill-Owens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Mixon officiating.

Vestal Vincent Kessinger

Lifelong Tecumseh resident Vestal Vincent Kessinger died Monday in Shawnee. He was 80.

Kessinger was born Jan. 28, 1919, in Tecumseh to Lonnie David and Sybal Ellen (Stark) Kessinger. He married Bertha Hughes on Dec. 12, 1938, in Tecumseh.

He attended Harjo Schools and was a brickmason for many years. He retired from Worthington Pump in 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha, of the home; five daughters, Mary Colon and Leona Cearley, both of Tecumseh; Vesta Saxton, Newalla; Louise Tucker, Shawnee; Linda Brannon, Earlsboro; three sons, Troy Kessinger, Kentucky; Danny Kessinger and Jimmy Kessinger, both of Earlsboro; 34 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, L.D. and Pauline Kessinger, Shawnee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eddie T. Kessinger; grandson, Daniel W. Kessinger; three brothers and one sister.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with O.J. Mize officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Paula Nance Mares

Former Shawnee resident Paula Nance Mares died Tuesday in Santa Fe, N.M., She was 50.

Mrs. Mares was born May 25, 1949. She married Mark Mares of Santa Fe, N.M.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, Helen Nance, Santa Fe, N.M.; brother, Joe Nance, Oakland, Calif.; sister-in-law, Diane McKallip; aunts, Mary N. Bower and Phyllis Cole, both of Shawnee; uncles, Carl Nance, Stillwater; John Nance, Calgary, Canada; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Nance.

Private family services will be held today in Santa Fe.
